How to make compost

Ok, so what are the currently recomended steps of making compost?  For me it looks something like this:
1. Get yourself a backpack and knife.
2. Feed shorn sheep.
3. Wait 5 seconds and stab the person that shears it.
4. Go to point 2 until there are no people entering the pen without 2 bowls full of berries and carrot per shorn sheep.

You can also go less violent route of hiding shears, but then you need to wait until the town runs out of iron, which seems worse.

Re: How to make compost

1 dont fucking kill the domestic mouflon- you can also feed it near pen, wanders off a bit but griefers seem harder to find it outside
no point killing it for a skin or one free tile, cant be sheared so makes lambs
2 if you feed it, you have all right to take the shears with you, once you got apron give it back
3 dont gear stupid random babies with apron and pack, you might have low population, but a baby boom will happen, give storage for workers, this improves town efficiency
4 gear and knife its not family treasure, hoard all your clothes you want but dont get surprised you baby with a pack of pies gets dropped on a snake
if you dont kill sheared sheep and you got a knife, you are a griefer, just give it to shepperd/compost or pie maker

once a lady told a fricking 4 year old to "protect this knife" -well i swapped the pack and stabbed her as i was old anyway, protecting knife failed
knife is not for 4 year old future baby machines, and monarchist role players deserve death anyway

if you find a knife its still not yours, if you are too dumb to make an apron or a pack to store it, dont run around with a knife in hand, when you got a bow ready in hand or a knife, it takes one click to kill someone, so nobody should trust this persons, stash your knife or arrow, when guarding town

someone was running around a town today with a knife and no backpack cutting all the wheat.

i was 90% sure he was greifing.

i told him not to cut all the wheat.  that we needed the seeds.  I stood toe to toe with this guy and he had a freakin knife out.

he legit apologized and dropped the knife (which i grabbed and backpacked right away).  apparently he was new.  well that's what he said anyway.

Re: How to make compost

I saw in so many city's that the mouflon was killed, maybe we should make a seperat part in the pen that is locked with a nonopenable-fence, so you would have a barrier between the mouflon and the regular pen. So new players probatly would not know that they can dig up the fence.
We could also store one wheat, a rope and planted carrots in there.

What do you think guys? Is it the extra time worth?

Re: How to make compost

Lately I've taken to rushing free range sheep and later locking up the carrot patch with grave stones.
It's faster, uses less resources, and people get the idea not to eat the carrots if there's a fence around them.
Free range farm animals are also super cute.

10/10 less than half the amount of gravestones, keeps noobs away from eating carrots but doesn't stop the yum masters/tradesmen, the fencing doesn't "occupy" any tiles (carrots/seeds can be passed through), AND means you can get sheep going a solid 30 mins faster saving a significant amount of thread!

Could potentially be in the shearing and compost business within 30-45 mins with a good team.

Edit: For a carrot farm, you never need more than 8 plots EVER (even if the population was 30 people). Therefore you only need around 18 marked graves, compared to about 36 for a very basic sheep pen.

Re: How to make compost

well you can make an  1x3 pen for muflon somewhere more hidden. need 1 tile for lamb, 1 for food, and later dung, and one empty, then just rope the next lamb when ready

Re: How to make compost

I think the Alleria peace be upon him is right, sheep ONLY steal carrots. Free range is superior considering
that we don't really plant carrots much anymore.

Free ranged sheep is also good cause lazy peeps who only want to shear will have more trouble finding sheps
and give up more often. I think your idea about the domestic muflon shrine endlessly pooping out pups is cool too.

Re: How to make compost

Anything that inhibits noobs but benefits pros is a good thing.

Free range is now officially the new meta.

@Pein Usually someone ends up breaking the sheep pen in long term civs, and there are a few sheep roaming the wilderness tho

Re: How to make compost

Some people are under the impression that adult sheep also poop... i swear...

My general stratigy is put all sheers in backpack> feed sheered sheep> feed baby sheep x3> sheer/ kill mama sheep>clean pen while waiting for babys to grow>?????> compost...

Ideally only one set of sheers per town should exist, and be protected with the same care as the knife. Pass down to next shepard (even a large town only needs one shepard)

If only they just would..

It would've been cool if animals just kept pooping but you have to keep them alive with pasture or feed, I don't think it will happen though.

Sheered sheep that have been fed really should poop, but dont i had someone starve trying to argue with me that adult sheep poop too... that moron...

But hey once he died that sheep pen ran really smoothly. I made like 3 aprons and an assload of crap.

Pun 100% intended

They do if you feed them unshorn.  It's just in every possible way inferior to feeding lamb.

Alone I can dig a pit of 13*13 in a life, two people could wall off city sheep run around and one corner pen for carrot

I didnt know that, thats really cool!
I still think its a bad trade.

1 bowl of berry carrot= 1 dung, or
1 bowl of berry carrot= 1 dung, 4 mutton, and 1 fleece/sheep hide

I think some people are just to lazy to clean up the dead sheep. I mean cleaning the pen really sucks, but you gotta do it if you wanna be a good shepard

Theres no reason not to stock pile mutton, the pie is good , and a biproduct of the compost process.

Worst case you can just cook it and add to the variety of your towns yum bonus.

And no yahg that guy was the only one getting in the way. I was the town shepard till i died at 50ish, after showing a kid how to do the job.

Teaching is so painful nowadays... and all the new players expect me to be able to do it in an eve camp

The joke was that it was hopefully more than one assload (one dung) or you were a shitty Shepard.

My Father once teased me asking how much an assload was. At the time I had no smarmy answer, but now I do.

It depends on the Ass smile.

I'm not seeing the transition for this.  I don't think unshorn domestic sheep can be fed.

Ever thought about that he could be an older player? It is lately changed that only lambs poop.. before that, the adult on-shorn sheep pooped when feeded. So when hair and feeding, it pooped.

When it changed I had a argument with someone who told me that you couln't feed the adult sheep-with-hair anymore. I didn't believe that, because I did it the day before! But yes, it changed. Would that make me a moron? I don't think so lol.

I didnt know you could, but still the only reason to do this would be when your in dire need of 1 dung right now.

Why not get free mutton and fleece.

Can and should are two completely different things
