Re: [TUTORIAL] Cross-compilation of Windows client (+ VirtualBox setup)

Well in my case, I don't use a VM image. It is just a few tools and the checked out source code. There's no point in me providing you a ready to go bundled "system" because it would have to be reconfigured each time something changes (tools update, libraries change, even jason's OHOL changes). It is better that you set up your own development environment and learn to compile. Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll eat for a lifetime. As long as you follow the instructions, it will compile.

BUT when i select install ubuntu, my virtual box crashes and i can't fix it. did every step, started over several times, even changed a few things to try different stuff. everytime the meditation guru holds me back sad

What operating system are you running? And which image are you using? And what software are you using to host the VM?

Re: [TUTORIAL] Cross-compilation of Windows client (+ VirtualBox setup)

I quoted the wrong person, i thought he was the guy that posted the guide. i was on this step

Set up Ubuntu in VirtualBox on Windows

Step 1.5 This way you should have your machine ready to boot. Start it up!
You should be welcomed with Ubuntu instalation process. Choose instalation (not trial).
------------------------------------------------------------
at this point the oracle VM virtualbox just crashes. i had selected a language, selected install, then black screen and crash window.

Okay, you're running Oracle virtualbox on Windows 64 bit? If you have 64bit Windows, you need to use 64bit Linux with a 64bit Linux image.

Re: [TUTORIAL] Cross-compilation of Windows client (+ VirtualBox setup)

I am. This makes sense, but all the linux options for setting up the virtual machine are 32 bit, and there is no option for 64 bit. for operating system i choose linux, but then for version everything is 32 bit. now i'm noticing the top one just says linux2[point]2 . all the others say 32 bit. should i be using that one?

If 64bit isn't showing up as an option when creating a new VM, then you need to change your BIOS settings.

Re: [TUTORIAL] Cross-compilation of Windows client (+ VirtualBox setup)

excellent! i'll work more on this later, thanks so much for your help! after the linux guide seemed broken, I followed [as best as i can] palisades's guide to compiling in windows, and i got stuck on the step:
In gameSource/Makefile find COMPILE_FLAGS and append (with a preceding space): -I/usr/include -L/usr/lib

My problem is, it's unclear where gameSource/Makefile is (or what to use to find it), and how do i append it?
