The Story of Samantha Bach

I was born in a busy village to Bob Bach III, the fourth generation in the Bach family line. When I was old enough I was put to work on the carrot farm which had been neglected for some time. It was hard, repetitive work but I enjoyed it, knowing that I was playing my part in helping our town grow.

I was about 20 years old and working on the farm when my uncle came running into the farm. "Come with me!" he said.

"Why?" I asked.

"There's a killer outside the walls. She's got a bow and she says she's going to kill everyone."

I didn't know my uncle very well and didn't trust him and anyway I was a young girl with my life ahead of me. "How do I know it's not a trap?" I said, walking away. "I need to farm."

"You're going to die if you go confront her!" shouted my sister as he ran towards the village walls. That was the last time I saw either of them alive.

A little later, my first child Ella was born. I was nursing her in the fields when Bob Bach IV arrived. My uncle hadn't been lying: the killer was my aunt. "Put the baby down or I'll shoot" she said, brandishing her bow.

I ran. I'm not sure how, but baby in my arms I managed to lose her, weaving in and out of the village walls as fast as my legs would carry me. I made a break for the forest to the southeast. There was enough food there for two people to survive for a while, so we hid.

Time passed. We hid behind trees hoping that should the killer come looking for us, she wouldn't see us, but she never came. By this point Ella was old enough to fend for herself so we decided to go back into the town. I knew it was a mistake immediately. Bob Bach IV was standing over my wounded mother and sister with her bow. She'd shot them both. As I ran away, I heard her say "Hurry up and die."

While we were hiding in the woods again, my second daughter Sunny was born. "We can't go back to the village - there's a killer," I said "Maybe when you're a little older we can try."

"O" "N" she said.

When we finally made it back, the village was a ghost town. Everyone was dead. "Are we the only ones that survived?" I asked. It appeared so. At least there was no sign of my murderous aunt. "She left the horse" said Sunny. "Yes, she was only interested in killing people" I replied. The town could support us if we set to work rebuilding it.

I went back to the carrot farm - it was the only thing I knew. I had two more sons, but they both died as babies. Eventually my first grandson Joey was born. "We have hope!" I thought. I tried to tell my grandchildren the story of our escape but they didn't seem interested. "We've heard that story so many times Grandma," they'd say.

I died at the age of 60. My last words were "Lots of grandkids!" I only wish I could know what stories they had to tell.
