I've gotten several emails about this.
I'm on vacation, but I'll see what I can do remotely to fix this today or tomorrow.

My understanding is that the ONLY way you can get this "note-arrow" is if you shoot someone and the shot misses, is this correct? I.e., it ends up on the ground if the shot misses.
And then, after that, people can pick it up and use it to remote-stab people directly with no slow-down and no wound showing up on the victim.
Any extra info about how this works? Please add to this thread.
I'm going to be implementing the fix by mucking with the object data text file directly (because I don't have a machine that has the editor built on it). Surgical precision. So I want as much info as possible before I go in there and attempt to do it.

Honestly, just dont until you are back. Take your time off and relax with your family.
It is an issue yes, but we will have to live with it for now.
Mostly playing as Eve West - hope to meet you one day!

Hey Jason, currently it looks like the object property for the note arrow, id 1626, needs the following changes to fix the issue for the time being.
Old values:
Deadlydistance=3
Usedistance=5
New values:
Deadlydistance=0
Usedistance=1
I'm guessing you might have reused the object properties from ID 1624 and forgot to change these two considering most of the properties match up and it would be easy to just remove the bow Sprite ID.

I agree with West, let him be. Stay on your vacation, Jason.. You deserve to relax and be with family for a while. This is a glitch we can live with (pun intended).

I also think that you should first focus on your vacation and spending time with your family Jason.
It's a shame that some people can't wait and respect your time off that you really deserved. Come back to us once you had a fully relaxed time off and are equipped with more energy to tackle this problem

I'll own up and admit to emailing Jason on his time off. At this rate were going to have heavy turnover rates for mainly new people but also old players if we go without a hotfix.
Plus I'm assuming it'll be a fairly easy update to apply, but did not consider Jason not having a machine with the editor with him.

Im just taking a break from it all while hes on vacation... sounds like a shit show

Arrow-note also becomes deadly if it kills someone and the note is not removed from the body of someone. If an arrow hits and is left intact in someones murder corpse it'll also be in stab mode.
fug it’s Tarr.

No need to interrupt your vacation for a bunch of players who don't know how to combat killers. The murder numbers aren't any higher than they have been all week- go enjoy yourself and relax, Jason. Most of us will still be here when you get back, and those that aren't shouldn't be around anyways.

That's good to note, but we ought to be able to hold off on fixing that at the moment since the deadlydistance fix will make it safe and since jason will already have some difficulty updating since he doesnt have the editor with him.

I beg to differ.

While I agree that Jason deserves his break, I am very confident that ribbz has identified the issue correctly and fixing it will be fairly simple. If I had access to the repo, it is something I could do from my phone, for example. In this case I think Jason should fix it.

Yes, thanks for the pinpoint, Ribbz. Fix was easy with an ssh to the server and a text editor.
Incoming.

I'm just glad it was easy enough, hope it didnt jack with family time!

Jason i really think you should think about getting people to play test your updates. Just get a couple people in a test map and try to kill each other with every new item.

Or maybe add a checklist for yourself: "Did you copy any objects? If yes, did you check that all the values are as they should be?"
