In-case you're not aware, backpacks will act like baskets even when on your back.
This is especially annoying with food, so here's a scenario in-case you don't understand:
You have 3 carrots in your bag, and you pick up a pie to bring with you, when you try to put it in your bag by right-clicking as usual, you end up swapping it out for a carrot.
Now, personally I'm not a fan of this at all, and I don't think anyone else is either.
What's your opinion? Have you used a backpack since the new update a few hours ago, or were you entirely unaware? Let me know, and let's try to get Jason to revert it back to the way it always has been.

Could be useful if you have important items but still want food to be at the top. I suppose the apron fills that role already.

It's confusing because I am not used to it yet. But it's handy. You can swap your knife that you just gor from with the pie that you already had in your backapck without putting it down, risking it to get taken away by someone else

being able to shuffle though your backpack is absolutely great and was really needed
but
it is indeed a problem as normally putting an item with left click puts it in, but if it's different kind of food, you will eat it instead, even if your mouse is clearely on your backpack and not on yourself

I will be eve tana. If not an eve, my kids will be called numerically : Primo, Duo, Tertio, Quattro, Quintus, Sextus, Septimus, Octavius etc... ending with an -a if you're a girl.

Maybe simple click to put item in backpack and double click to switch item could solve the issue

Just tested, and it works exactly like you are suggesting.
Regular click to stick something in backpack.
Right click to swap held with bottom item in backpack.
I.e., as far as I can tell, it works EXACTLY like any container on the ground.
Maybe I'm missing something?

yes, thats it, if you want to put a food item in a backpack that contains already something, if you're not full, you will eat that item instead of puting it in,
a solution would be to always have an non food item in it, use right click to switch untille you hold the non food, then left click to put it finally back, or put the backpack on the ground, but that defeats the purpose of the new switching ability.

Right now : right click switches item and left click if the item is non edible puts it in backpack but if item is edible then you eat it if you have empty food bars, so basically you cant have a backpack with food only (for example one carrot and one pie) or you will be forced to have full food bars to put food in backpack
Possible fix: no change to left click, one right click to put item in backpack, double right click to switch items

I'll have to test that thing with the food items....

most times i feed myself left clicking it
right click seems to bring last item from left not the last i put in

I don't think it's a problem, and way better than it was. I rarely have more than one non food item in backpack though.
That said, I can see that it would probably make more sense if left clicking food on backpack had the priorities swapped around, so it puts in backpack until backpack full, then eats - as opposed to eating until food bar full then putting away.

The problem is with putting food in your backpack. When you click to put it in you end up eating the food if your hunger bar isn't completely full.
Offline
Yes, I see that now.
Will fix so that regular click on backpack puts food in there, even if you are hungry.
Click on your face to eat, k?

This has been fixed.
