Stack of baskets =/= a basket.
Basically stacks of baskets don't have a decay timer and changing a basket to a stack resets its decay timer.
Same reason why a hot flat rock can stay warm forever as long as you keep using eggs on it before it would normally go out.
Hot flat rock > Eggy rock > hot flat rock. It's basically like making a new hot flat rock each time you swap between putting the egg on and taking it off.
Useful things effected by this
Hot flat rock (duh)
Baskets to stacks of baskets
Wool clothes and dyeing wool clothes to refresh decay timer
Snake boots to fruit boot (no clue but it should based off everything else.)

Jason already knows about this problems (thanks Kailied) and states its hard to fix for him. The problem lies with engine (again...). Theoretically single map tile can hold single item and its decay timer. When you stack baskets - they technically become a single item with number of uses - this means they would all share the decay timer parameter. Which one should be used? Longest? Shortest? Averaged out?

when we have balls of straw and farming machines then the decay of the stack of baskets will maybe get adressed but in the meantime enjoy resetting the baskets decay timer by stacking them
As for the technical issue, averaging out between all the baskets timer seems fair

that's pretty good for us then since making baskets as a new eve is always a big pain in the ass... i guess we can call this a bugff for now lol
