My Heart Was Broken Today

Sometimes people want to take a break from the chaos and fast pace that is a life on server one. I like to do it and I know others do to. For me, that place was server fifteen. It was a place where myself and others could go to to practice the game and test designs, and just create beautiful things. If I had to take a guess, ive poured almost 80 hours of work into making a world I was proud of; My sanctuary. My safe place. Life after life, hand picking stones and creating something out of nothing.

Today I found out something that broke my heart. Someone with ill intent or some sort of grudge paid us a visit and desecrated our beautiful home. I dont understand why anyone would do something so heartless. Silly games and pranks are one thing, but to seek out to destroy something so many people invested hundreds of hours on, is beside me. I dont know who did it, and i dont think I ever will but i want to say something. You didnt just destroy one civ, you destroyed my happiness. I wont curse or throw a fit, but know that you hurt me immensely. You took away everything that made me happy and made the shitty things in life suck a little less. I hope you're happy.

Re: My Heart Was Broken Today

As someone who Solo Builds on occasion, I can appreciate and respect your pain.  If we can help you in any way to rebuild, or if you just need to vent, you are welcome to come find us on Twitch.  We love and feel One Hour One Life and our community may be small but it is warm and wonderful.  I can tell you will fit in perfectly.   A few of us mainly stream OHOL and you are welcome in our chats: Wolvenscar, LostScholar, EliceaBlueBear, Xclame and myself 2LaughOr2Cry.  Consider this an invitation to come tell us about your favorite part of building your civ?

Many in Wolvenscar's and my own chat have been here from close to the beginning. Let's reminisce and build new memories and perhaps salvage some old ones.  We'll even spawn in with you and help you rebuild if needed.  So, in summary, I'm sorry that happened to you and, most importantly, this experience has revealed a path to a plethora of new like-minded friends and playmates.  May your wells stay full and your hoe NEVER break.  Bye-eee

Re: My Heart Was Broken Today

Did they really destroy it all, because if they took the time to do that, they really are a rotten person, and I would suspect superfun, not that the name matters.  That's just such an evil thing to do, i'm sorry.

Re: My Heart Was Broken Today

they really did destroy it all. moved all the iron (30 stacks) into a building and chest blocked it. ripped up some 300 or more flooring. cut all 140 wheat, made sure all the seeds for carrots were used. tried to smash up every single bean (they missed a few) ate all the corn, sheep pen 25 by 13 some 30 sheep 2 mouflon, all dead. only 2 fence post left in the whole civ. only one of 30 horse (half with carts) left on one... destroyed the vegetable garden. hid all the bone needles, random adobe structures... and for some reason, dead puppies in the kitchen. everything that could be destroyed was, everything that could be killed was and everything else roaming around. but left milkweed mostly alone, i guess it was too much work. irony.

Re: My Heart Was Broken Today

i was in a gen 3 camp, my uncle was like 30 when i born, he and a kid same age as me making shovel and other tools
i noticed that we got quite a few stumps in the swamp, i started bringing bones there, with 6-7? bones i enclosed a 4x4 space cause of ponds and stumps, uncle dug some up but he stopped when i asked to leave them

later sister helped me and we got the entire 4x4 out of bones, and i got the flat rocks brought for it
she helped me with a few but i had to wait like 5 min cause they swapped out the stumps

i made the bow and arrow and i shot a muflon, then fixed the pen, put food inside and brought the lamb home
uncle was diggin a stump and told us he wanna die there, and become a part of the wall

later on i seen a guy bringing iron in basket, we had like 3,5 furs so i got him a backpack, made the file, saw and 2 carts and got like 4 more branches, made a knife for myself and we had 3 carts by generation 4-5

i managed to get 12 saplings, so i made letter stocks then U letters, i made uncle graves on left and bottom side, one on top, that was kinda the middle of what i planned

then mirelli and pharo helped me dodge the lineage ban and we were there again as triplet, granny even gave back my pack with the knife and told me 'then continue the work on your pen''
that life i extended it twice, making a 4x8 pen rather than making aprons or hats for myself, but they took my only sapling planted and no new planted, also i had to make compost and arrange the city

when i came back few hours later, i wanted to suicide for what i saw in first second, just the dumb shape of the roads making work harder not easier, when i seen the corner of my pen i decided to stay
they built roads in middle of the city and around in a very bad shape, mixing boards, people gearing kids while others worked naked, kids with knifes. 20 bowls of paper

ant then i saw my pen ruined, they took off the rocks which werent fixed, the L shape was unremovable so they replaced the  rest with fences
now that looks bad
and its an asshole thing to do
and i was asking a granny where the grave pen gone and why making fences instead of it
and that im a liar and she even pulled a knife on me
so i stabbed her right after, it was twisted from honeybunneygames, who bitches a lot about me, but yet another town which i made where he makes his videos
i got the pack and a lot of knifes
i seen a few murders happening around
also this was the most aprons i seen ever, even more than in allegre town(bonsai garden with a rail to the bakery and smith) which was pretty big
then i was chased by other guy and then i said screw this, we where just messing around, i killed 4 people with weapons in the end and escaped on slowdown once, then i was killed

they even hid my note i left near the pen, and made a lot of stupid notes

now i get that people dont like graves or like fences better
but taking the flat rocks from a functioning pen to make a stupid road with no actual clue what is there is a very asshole thing to do
i had work with it, a lot of work that others cant really do in 3-4 lifes, it allowed the city to make aprons from gen 3 until that point

it wasnt even a city where you can make outposts or farms on a desert side, literally was a small swamp only with a medium green biome and mostly badlands around it so i dont understand why people cant leave it be like that, a decent size grave pen
a lot of people enjoy it, based on number of aprons they liked it

they could of built the fences on other place if they really want to, so i felt like extending it rather than fixing it with graves wasnt a nice thing either, once you got extra fences just build a new one, i would of built it back when i got back anyway, with so many cities let me have a small one
in bonsai garden my outpost is still nicely maintained and people choose to stay there instead of the big city in the end cause its clean and tidy and every time i get back i improve it, and fix it

i dont ever put rose wals or fixed graves into other peoples stone walls or fences, i dont ruin a design with no functionality
yes adobe is temporary so building around it or replacing with chests is ok, cause will decay anyway but i even spent a lot of time fixing down the graves so it gave the L shape, also had 2 wells and one more grave as other entrance which allowed a mirrored setup on other side (reverse front entrance), and square shape uses less walls and gives more free tiles so planting trees above it also a dumb/bad intended move
if you dont like it ignore it, make new one, ruining is a disrespect towards others work and time, and that work was what made that city viable in the first place

Re: My Heart Was Broken Today

Oh pein, you are completely missing the point...
you can't compare the utter pointless and savage destruction of someone's whole self made city in an empty server with the undoing or one of your many works in one of the many cities on main server.
What you describe is just normal city evolution, yeah you're annoyed that someone undid some of the work you've done, but thats how life works in this game.

Also on that note i want to tell you that i hate your gravepens, especially when you uncle them, then they become more of a burden because it's totally unremovable, and what you might think is a good pen placement in the early stages end up being blocking city expansion, or making it more ugly because we need to move around. You might have an idea on how the city SHOULD grow when you build it, but it is rarely how it DOES grow afterwards.

Bear in mind that most of the time, a sheep pen will have to be moved somewhere else for a lot of many reasons.
And it's a good thing too, our cities are alive, they grow, expand on one side then backtracks and sometimes you have to tear down older structures to make room for others, just like in real life.
I have no idea how many times i have personally moved things around, rebuild a forge/kitchen/sheep pen in another area because the one that was current ended up being unpractical with how the city had grown.
Yeah it's annoying to see your hard work of one lifetime got moved or destroyed, but that doesn't mean that you were personally griefed, it just means that what was needed at the time you build it, wasn't anymore later on.

And about your argument with twisted, asking him why the graves were removed... you said it yourself, you came back after a few hours... the pen was already that way when he was born there, so yeah he called you a liar when you told him that he removed the grave pen because he didn't... for him there was nothing behind the fences, so he built a small extra pen for cow, then you came at him accusing him of destroying your work, which he didn't.

You have to understand that what you do isn't YOUR work once its done and you died, it's part of the city, and when you get reborn later on into it, you can't just get pissed go and stab others just because they are playing with what they see, and they may be undoing what you did... Most ppl will call you a liar when you come as a kid telling them they are destroying your work , wich for them, they clearly didn't since they are older, were probably working on it since before your were born, and they probably try to fix something that was done by someone else to your work in a previous life, then go stab them for calling you a liar. Learn to let go if something you did was destroyed, it's part of the game.

I will be eve tana. If not an eve, my kids will be called numerically : Primo, Duo, Tertio, Quattro, Quintus, Sextus, Septimus, Octavius etc... ending with an -a if you're a girl.

Re: My Heart Was Broken Today

my point wasnt compairing it to destroying a city, but it still feels bad that bad intention and idiocy ruins something people cared about for hours

someone undid all the work and others just accept it and ruin it even more, same like somebody makes tongs out of  fence rails, you go and help him?
you dont have to like it, but at least respect the work with it
if i didnt uncle them this one would of just vanished from there, if they know they cant move all of it, they shouldnt move a part of it
if they wont replace it first they shouldnt even touch it, that road was one of worst i seen, why connect an oven in a bad position to a road?
i dont like fences either cause they are not effective, the other life someone just took a rail off cause needed to light a fire, we had 200 branches above us in forest and near the road

im generally choosing good positions, and you optimize city around the pen, not pen to city, people can hardly keep up with a good shepherd, an oven takes 2 adobe people still dont move it or make a new one
most of my pens face to a biome which is too cold/too hot for a city, im not even a fan of building them on desert at all
and im generally faster than anyone who makes rooms out of stone so they got the idea what i want, so if a pen doesnt occupy strategic desert/blocks wells then i dont see a reason why you need to remove it, and as i said its a pretty bad spot, was viable yes, but you cant make grave pens in gen 3 if you dont have bones, in desert you wont have, people might die far away to a snake, not starve in middle of the city and generally live longer, now they are quite as fast as an adobe pen, but before wasnt imaginable that your first pen is a grave pen and not a pit pen

if someone just took the gravestones to make into that stupid road, then it was open, they could of just made a new fence pen, or fix it with graves for consistency, yeah it was a tradition for that people to be buried in the wall

you pull a knife on others than you intend to kill them, he is a bullshitter and posing for audience cause some people had problem with him abandoning kids and killing people for gear.
also he is a leach in most lifes so his hypocritical comments about me are ridiculous, when most of big cities arent made/optimized by him, he started before me, and after 1 month i already was annoyed by his videos
you dont move on a tile where somebody is standing to eat, this is basic knowledge, you can block him from eating or covering his work
you dont run in city with weapon in the open cause it makes others unconfortable, and you dont pull out a knife standing next to somebody, if you do you can only blame yourself if someone stabs you, also most of the time people thank me for it
even if you do by accident, someone can misinterpret it, now i wont gonna talk to  you and explain to put down a bow and stash your arrow in your range

i stabbed him for an attempt on my life, and stabbed the other noob for the same and i targeted people with weapon cause they would of prevented me for stabbing the other guy, yeah destroying my work wont really help on the situation
it takes a lot of effort to not stab you on sight and tell your mistakes, if the general attitude is worse, the repercussions will be worse
funny thing with experience people will understand this rules, the ones who extend berry fields or make roads out of forge rocks got no intention to work with them and probably never become useful member of any city so either learn it, or get stabbed a few times until they consider it risky for their health

i think a grave pen is still worth that 20-30 flat rocks, rather than a dumb road in the middle of the city, a fence can be moved if you dont have enough of them, also having 2 ovens, 2 pens, 2 places to forge, separate kiln for pottery is essential for a 20+ populated city
called dips on them in gen 3-4 by moving them, respect the effort of others work
noobs shouldnt even mess with higher tech stuff if they dont understand it or shouldnt make decisions which cannot be corrected later

Frying Pan, a question ... how to get back to appear in your city again and again ...
I know the system to appear on the same server, but I do not know how to do respawn in the same city

Re: My Heart Was Broken Today

I feel for you. I have had experiences like this... it might seem stupid but in two lives I wrote a complete 12-page "bible" satire joke, i.e. ''Jesus is looking for his Mary on okcupid'' etc but thats not the point, put it in a box and added mother graves all around it, the kind that can't be removed. Two twins carted it off even though I had worked so long on it. It was very annoying, specifically because of my mother who kept them even though they jumped and acted like she didn't see after they created havoc in the town and talked about communism instead of working. I told her not to keep them if they jumped, she ignored me... I don't think she even cared.

Re: My Heart Was Broken Today

I had a similar thing recently on server 5 though I'd only spent about 8 or 10 lives on it. Fence pen pulled up, farms ruined, bears at the forge etc. they also left milkweed untouched.

I didn't really care so much, for me the point is in the making not the keeping, and there is not much more to do once you have a milk cow, so the camp was more or less finished, but it did make me feel kinda sad for the person who did it. I can't imagine what must have happened in their life to make them that way, or how it must be to go through life being that person.

FryingPan, take solace in the fact that you are you and not them.

Re: My Heart Was Broken Today

I spawned into a massive city once that at one point had everything.  But almost everyone was gone, the sheep were running wild, and there was a field filled with dozens of wooden tongs next to a field of mature trees.  I can only guess that some jerk or jerks demolished the pen and took all the branches from the trees and made tongs from them.

I kinda understand the murder griefers because that's quick, spur of the moment, scratching the boredom itch.  But to systematically ruin things over the course of an hour?  It's bizarre to me.  I have way better things to do IRL.
