A lot of the time this game is pretty brutal to your efforts. You work so hard and a newb, goof, or griefer that is your descendant will piss it all away. Or the baby roulette keeps giving you boys. But every so often your work pays off.
I found myself in such a situation today. I was the last girl in the village. At first I assumed I would just have babies while I worked. But when I did not have one for 7 minutes I realized I need to take being the last girl serious. I camped a perfect temp in the berries and focused on just having kids.
I had 6 sons before I had my last child a girl . . . who was pretty much a total newb. I never fed and guarded a girl so much. I taught her to farm and told her to stay in the berries. I knew the wild animals would kill her if she stepped away from them. I brought her soil and water, so she had something to do and could help. When she started having kids I had to interceded to keep her from letting her babies starve. Her first daughter was a moron that went looking for iron at age 13 (way too young). But her second daughter was a genius. She found perfect temp and all I needed to do keep that one alive was feed her like 2 or 3 berries and she made it. I even named her.
That little bit of difference on that girl is all it took. She was a good player who had 11 kids with 5 of them being smart girls in turn.
When I checked up on my descendants an hour later I was expected them to have died out as usual, I was shocked to see they had survived and still look like they are surviving.
It is amazing how much a big difference a little effort in that little girl made. I thought for sure I had failed when I died, but those spare two berries is all it took to give a good player a chance to turn things around.

Ohhohh.. That is quite long! I admit you did make it matter as a last girl. Good job!
If you ever enter Pea (Helkama turns into random name) family, you need the lottery ticket picked up. My baby names given can be absolutely random.

the other life we had a smart guy who was smithing and others who rabbit hunting so my effort on getting thread, one rabbit for bellows as kid wasn't needed, but i made a pack as the furs were there a long time, and i found some green biome with branches and seals
so i made myself a seal skin
when we were down to last girl, i gave all my clothes to her, skirt and seal skin
literally almost starved without it, so got used to it but was worth it
i could never finish the pen, but i got more iron and we made all 6 into tools, so we had complete set and the vein was pretty close
i like small families where a little effort can help them survive
the other life we had too many babies and i wanted to kidnap some to slow down the baby boom
but this little one was like 'hi un cl' and he said hi every time she seen me after, so i couldn't let her starve, and i took care of her until she went old and couldn't raise kids, and she did what i asked and enjoyed herself planting carrots, milkweed, seen my pen and said to her kids, we are now ranchers, i could have done myself but told her to feed the lamb with berry and carrot bowl, she was so excited about everything

Playing OHOL optimally is like cosplaying a cactus: stand still and don't waste the water.

I agree. I love like coming in as like as the daughter or grand daughter of an Eve, or when a village has just suffered a set back and is almost dead. Those are the most satisfying places to jump in because all you work is immensely useful. I often sucide now if I spawn in too rich of a village. It is boring.
This life was the most satisfying in a long while because my actions allowed the line to continue on for another 19 generations! This was a town that would have died at generation 6 if a typical player had played my life. But because of my efforts I kept a village going another 19 generations. I very proud of that. I was hoping that this note would catch the attention of the Eve or someone after me. I am really interested in hearing from the guy that build a road to the goose ponds. That was very smart.
