Isn't it kind of fked up that some of the stuff that's being shown in that trailer isn't even in the game.. yet? Who tells us that any of the futuristic stuff is going to be added to the game later down the line? maybe something happens and Jason decides that it's not a good idea to implement that stuff. Or maybe he does actually implement futuristic objects, but they're worse from what we got to see in the trailer? Like no transit train thingy and no robots that you can build, but instead only get like futuristic walls and floors and lights and what not. Things that are a given. Same goes for the modern house objects. Non of that stuff is in the game yet, and is obviously just there for show.
I honestly feel lied at looking back at it now. When I saw the trailer before I decided to buy the game, I expected all of that stuff to be in the game already. But as it turned out that's not the case, and may probably won't be the case until much much later.
What's your opinion about this?

All trailers are a lie. All trailers, always. My opinion is that if you want to know what something is, you don't go to the trailer for solid information, you find out about it from other people. Trailers are just for hype.

Well, that's one way to look at it. But I mean you are right, trailers are almost always scripted.
But that's not the point. The point is that the trailer is showing content of the game that isn't even in the game yet.

Most of whats visible in the video is already in game.
With exception of:
- first room (which is clearly stated that rest of the game does not look like that YET)
- roads, cars, monorail & "future tech", which are only displayed as Jason talks that he will TRY to add them AHEAD of players reaching those point.
Remember that there also is second trailer which is actually the FIRST trailer and is more realistic to the content.

"Hello, my name is Jason Rohrer. Well, at least that's what I look like in my new game One Hour One life. Yup, this is it. We are live inside the game right now."
That line alone implies to me that what he is showing to me right now is supposed to be in the game right now.
Also, I don't really consider the other video as a trailer video. It was just a preview of the objects of the game, but not much was really shown about the gameplay.
From an CGI trailer that's to be expected. But from a trailer that tries to act like it's showing real gameplay footage.. eh, I don't know man. It seems kind of iffy to me.

Yup, its almost harsh to say, but it feels like false advertisement. "We're live inside the game!" implies, that what he shows us is part of what's included in the game and that in theory, I could build a house like that too. Thats a clear lie. I'm not sure if I actually bought the game back then if I would've known that content isn't even close to what's beeing promised there.
However the game itself still conviced me, so I'm not even mad. Already had alot hours of fun well worth the 20 dollars. Plus I'm sure that Jason will at least add enough content to keep the experience enjoyable for a while. But I can understand anyone who feels kinda scamed because of that.

Im with you. I also got a lot of playtime out of the game. Even though I didn't like the game at first, it had a charm to it that I really liked. I'm a sucker for 2D games. I'm a sucker for bad controls/tank controls. And I was looking for a survival game like this for quite some time. I like the idea of the game and it has it's fun moments.
And yeah, Jason seems like a passionate developer. I'm sure he is going to deliver, at least from the content side of things. Or so I would believe. I'm not so sure about balancing the game tho, or tweaking the controls and gameplay to a more enjoyable level, or fixing bugs, etc. because so far I'm not too impressed with some of the changes that were made to the game in regards to its gameplay.
For instance, why did Jason make it so that fertile ground despawns after your carrots turn into seeds? to make the gamer harder? if anything it's making farming just more annoying. It's not even realistic. Though, thinking about it now, it kind of makes sense that he would change it like this. That way fertile becomes more valuable. It's just the question, does something like fertile need to be a valuable ressource?
But hey, that's just my opinion on that kind of topic.

Well he wanted to prevent stagnation with that, which does make sense. Before the change you could just always leave one carrot in each row and easily survive off carrots forever. Without spending any more ressources. Now you actually have to think of a solution and progress in order to survive.
And its realistic too. In reality you can't just forever use the same soil either.

This has a very easy explanation. The game has the base principle: evolve or die. Before you reached a stable point after you planted some carrots. Plant, wait, harvest half, wait for seeds, replant, repeat. You can survive without need for any further progress.
With the new system - you can use the old system only for some time. You need to gather more fertile soil which is limited in nature... or evolve and learn how to compost.
When you start composting - you reached current next "stable point". Which I'm sure will change in the future. Berries will be harded to farm, reeds won't regrow (or will regrow slower) so you will need more wheat faster or something like that... After which we find next "stable point" even futher that needs even more steps and more people cooperating at the same time.... at which point Jasong will make that even harder... and so on and so on.
I believe the end point of the game is to never have the "Stable point" like we had with carrots and have with compost now - forcing us to evolve with every update. I imaging that after we reach "modern" tech, there won't be any "chekpoints" at which you could say "ok, now I'm fine for a while, I can spend few real time days teaching newbies how to play and we will try to jump over next tech step after everyone is familiar with what we have now." Reaching modern tech will be one sprint where you get more which forces you to get even more.

Hmm, I see. I guess that makes sense then. It's not like the biggest deal for me anyway. I just thought it was a odd change.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. It's kind of what I thought afterwards when I made the post. It all makes sense now. ^^

While I can understand how people could be confused, personally I had no difficulty understanding that the game is not finished and that it is evolving. Having said that, I fully believe that everything in that trailer was coded into the game to make the trailer. It's not coded in a way that you could use in the game, but it's also not just put together with Blender or something. I say that having played a large proportion of Jason's other games and having read a lot of his source code. He likes to write code and often writes a lot of code that he could easily get out of a library somewhere. Who knows, I could be wrong, but...
Now, I'm going to say it up front: I'm a super huge Jason Rohrer fan boy (even though I'm about 10 years older than him ;-) ), so you can take my comments with a grain of salt. I view Jason's games more like performance art than I do games. I think he is a great artist and his games reflect that. However, the game side sometimes takes a back seat to the art. Cultivation is my favourite game up until this point and I highly encourage people to play it -- the utter frustration of the ending is both maddening and wonderful (and yes, I hacked my own ending because I like to live in happy-ville :-) ). Passage wasn't even fun for me. But it's brilliant. (Go on, play it -- it's worth it).
But this game is different: We must rebuild civilisation. Seriously, what are the challenges for rebuilding civilisation? Don't constrain yourself to the game mechanics that you are looking at, because I am 100% positive that Jason isn't. The whole *point* of this game is the evolution and not just upgrading a few sprites or using ever more recipes. The game evolves, the communities in the game evolve. The communities playing the game evolve. The players evolve! Give the programmer a break -- he has to evolve too. He can't figure it out all ahead of time. ;-)
I do also appreciate the frustrations as well. FWIW, I think this game uses death as a way to bring rebirth and hope. I don't know how the game will turn out in the end, but I really do hope. Will it work? It would be amazingly fantastic if it did, and so far it looks pretty promising to me. I literally haven't been so excited for years. If you can find a way to have fun, I think it will be more than worth it!

This is one of the reasons I am waiting for a refund. The game is not in such a state as presented and without an apropriate "Beta" or "Early Access" tag to warn off buyers it's not acceptable. It's quite a move to advertise something so far from reality, use minecraft as an inspiration as to release off steam etc and then ask for 25$(incl tax) without an easy way of refund when people discover that it's not remotely close to what was presented.
Go indie, go off steam all you want but atleast present it honestly for what it is and price it accordingly.

I think if you watched the trailer and didn't come away with the understanding that Jason is adding technology week to week, leading up to the eventual possible presence of robots, and that the robots (end game tech) were not in the game from launch, then you weren't paying attention. If you bought the game thinking that all of the tech was available from the beginning, then you were very much mistaken, but I'm sure Jason will refund you all the same, since he has a 100% satisfaction guarantee, and he's a swell guy.

I didn't pay enough attention? How come everything he is showing in the video is shown in a way that he has already implemented them in the game, as of right now? "LIVE inside the game", as he told us. Not even the video description gives you any information in regards to how some of the things shown in the trailer aren't out yet and are basically just concept art.
Explain to me how me and some other people didn't pay enough attention here.
And btw, I'm sure that Jason didn't plan this intentionally. I get the idea as of why he decided to make the trailer the way he did. But I think it's overall not the right way he should have done it after effect.

"Actually, this is my modern home office. Civilization in the rest of the game hasn't gotten quite this advanced yet. Maybe someday though."
* walks away from the office so that it is out of view *
"Everything you see here exists on a persistent server. It starts out full of untouched wilderness and it's up to us, the players, to rebuild civilization from scratch together."
* skip ahead *
"But really, all of this is just the beginning. As players continue climbing up through the tech tree, I'll be staying one step ahead of them by adding new stuff to the game every week."
* car and monorail go past, a monorail/car that is a ridiculously huge technological jump over anything previously demonstrated *
"As we rebuild civilization together, who knows where we'll end up."
* robot shoots him *
So, this, to me, suggests that the robot is a possibility, not implemented in the game at all and that the very premise of the game is that we start at the beginning and eventually lead to future technology, NOT that it already exists in the game.
But yeah, maybe he didn't explain it explicitly enough. Email him and ask for a refund.

And that's my point. He didn't make a good job of making it clear of whether what we are seeing in the trailer is already in the game or not.
I'm not asking for a refund. I had my fair share with the game and got my enjoyment out of it.

If he clearly stated that some of the stuff he's showing right now isn't in the game yet, then I wouldn't have payed attention. But that's not the case. He just told us that he's live inside the game and then he showed us a bunch of cool stuff. The "I will add more to the game" really seemed more like that he's going to add that on top of what's already shown there.
There's a reason why so many people got confused by this trailer.

People can't even keep a village alive for more than 25 hours, I don't think we're going to exactly have monorails and ray guns just yet.
edit: plus I like the feeling of development throughout the game. If everything was already here I'd know I'd get bored within a week. This keeps me on my toes... When new content is added I come crawling back to try and get to a better developed point!
