Please Share Stories of Towns Made Worse By the Temperature Overhaul

I know of at least four towns on sever12 which became worse after the temperature overhaul.  All of these towns existed before the temperature overhaul and still exist after it.  This is not to say that their founders are still playing them though.  They all come as connected by a long stone road.

One of them has a bunch of stew pots in it and has its farm in some jungle tiles and much of the rest of the town in desert. There exists some grass and swamp abutting some of those desert spots.

Another town lies almost entirely in a jungle, including 3 animal pens, 2 ponds, and 5 kilns, 2 of which lie near a desert tarry spot.  This town has 19 entombed mosquitoes in jungle tiles.  The mosquitoes are not able to move at all.

Another town has a fair amount of desert tiles.  This town I've only briefly visited, so its layout I am the least familiar with.

Another town has a plaster wall structure surrounding it.  When I've run up to it, I've seen a group of horses biome locked in a prairie.  There exists a pen with some fences with a wolf, a snake, and some other animal inside of it in a badlands.  The town has a forge which has desert, jungle, and two prairie tiles... one of those tiles usually has a box, and a horse in the other one. There exists a restaurant with, I think, every food type completely in a jungle.  There exists a kitchen which completely lies in jungle tiles.  There also exist some crops grown in a jungle.

Please share any other stories of towns made worse by the temperature overhaul.  That overhaul gets described here: https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=5304

Edit: I know of a fifth town on server 12 which lies in a desert with a swamp and grassland near.  It has one trapped mosquito behind a wall of three bell tower bases.  There exist three kilns in a desert.  It has a stone road running north which has an outpost in a desert abutting a swamp.  The road does not, as I write this, connect to the main stone road which leads to many of the other towns on server12.

All five of these towns have completed bell towers.

Re: Please Share Stories of Towns Made Worse By the Temperature Overhaul

I came back to the game after 6 months on the day the update was released (weird coincidence) so don't have any such stories. Though I can imagine it was frustrating for those who put in a lot of work. The good thing is new towns are popping up and people are adapting. Soon, I hope, we will have new mega towns that will, again I hope, last even longer.

This is stupid.

Pretty much all towns built before the update.

Re: Please Share Stories of Towns Made Worse By the Temperature Overhaul

it really sucks especially for desert towns. It is weird but the best indoors environment for cooking, smithing etc is probably jungle/desert since you don't need a fire running all the time which doesn't really heat up the place regardless.

I told you on discord but I'll say it again, all people outside will have bad temp now. If you have lots of space you can use snowman foundations (permanent) to lower temp in jungle for a few spots. If you have grassland/swamp close to water try to move your farm there since clothes make the cold easier. Make a place for lighting fires that is in cold so you can spend the last 5 mins of eve life. And make a huge jungle room for all your other indoors activities.

It sucks that all your newcomen engines etc are outside in the heat. You have tons of food though and can remake everything inside anyways. There isn't that much in the game to do after a certain point. Starting a new town is probably even more work. Iron veins reset within a week of you not seeing their area, so you can get all the iron again. As for your jungle forest, you will probably need double that forest to floor your buildings, I know I want to make mine ridiculously large.

now we would need a wipe on those, its not worth living in some biomes but i guess some people will still do it

Re: Please Share Stories of Towns Made Worse By the Temperature Overhaul

Considering the whole point of the temperature update was to make the majority of the existing towns uninhabitable, I don't see what you hope to accomplish with this thread.   The changes make living in jungle or desert significantly harder.   That is a fact.  It was the whole point of the change.

It also made creating a viable town much harder over all, because the "easier" spots are gone.  Now all biomes suck.  The only difference is some biomes suck that much harder.   It isn't impossible to survive, but it is more difficult and reaching a higher level of civilization takes more time.   Big towns are fewer and more fragile than before the update.  Small towns are the same way.

You could spend all day listing all the dead towns, but why bother?  They are gone.  It won't change anything.   The update is working more or less as intended.

Re: Please Share Stories of Towns Made Worse By the Temperature Overhaul

towns aren't meant to last that long, and not that many people play on these lowpop servers.

Were you around when there wasn't decay and Eves spawned in the center of all the human made objects? It became terrible.

I've lagged inside of some rooms on server12, on server7, and on another low-pop server.  I finally got a better handle on it yesterday.  It's mostly the wood flooring.  Also, zooming in seems to reduce the lag, but doesn't completely seem to nullify it.  I guess it makes sense that a bunch of floors require more calculations, so lag can happen with a bunch of floors.

yep walls only really affect you if you are 3-4 tiles away from them. So if large enough floors are good enough

Wiping those towns, by which I mean destroying those towns, would be griefing.  I mean, we usually call someone trying to deliberately destroy a town a griefer, don't we?

Not if the town is already dead.

If the towns are dead, perhaps.  I didn't say that the towns were dead though.  I think you're the only one who has used 'dead' in this thread.

Re: Please Share Stories of Towns Made Worse By the Temperature Overhaul

I was "lucky" because my jungle place wasn't too developed when the update hit. However last night some really helpful person came over and we built the newcomen tower and even a whole diesel engine over 2-3 lives! He even got all the iron for it. Point is if you know how to do it, it is possible to have all your nice stuff duplicated on floored jungle. For experienced players, not being able to have good temp isn't that big of a deal.

Jungle is still the best biome to be in, it is just that you need to be in a building before you get the benefits.
