a multiplayer game of parenting and civilization building

Pushing the bottom up should give the game better appraisal from the large casual community. - and won't bother the hard core players, either, I think.
Warmth cannot be the afk mechanic so long as it also gives women babies. (tried this once. it was an awkward time)
Morality is the interpretation of what is best for the well-being of humankind.

Somehow this discussion turned into "what do I do when I need to afk for a bit", and while that's a legitimate issue, I don't think it's really the most important consideration.
I don't think that raising the top is a good idea here. Only needing to eat once every 6 minutes.... that's pretty leisurely. Of course, if you're actually doing stuff in the game, you won't be able to hold that perfect temp. But the fact that it's possible even when naked, just with the small fire, means that bathroom breaks are totally possible.
So, yeah, raising the top is basically irrelevant, because it affects almost no one. It's nice to know, I guess, that if you're afk standing on a small fire you can be gone for six minutes as long as someone else feeds the fire every thirty seconds, but there's no practical implication for the game. People don't stand on fires, they work.
And while they're working, they're going to have to refill their food bar every ninety seconds. "1:42" isn't practical because if you wait until you're almost empty you will die due to random circumstance. And this is for an adult in the prime of life, and assumes that there's enough food available that they can fill their bar every time they eat. But very often given the food available your choices are to eat once and leave your bar partially unfilled, or eat twice and waste a lot of food just to top off your bar.
Also, the timing of when you eat is not always under your control. If you're foraging, you eat when you come across food. If you're working, you eat when your task can be interrupted. If you're in a village, you eat when your task takes you past the food supply, or when you can afford to leave your station and go to the food supply.
Backpacks, portable food, stockpiles, and food distribution networks alleviate these issues, and are welcome sights to see, but the point is that they are ways to relieve the pressure of an individual's food demand - and right now that pressure is very, very high.
Probably too high.
It's not impossible to get anything done because you are stopping to obtain food every sixty seconds... but it's difficult, and not much fun. A small buff to the bottom end, as you put it, would probably have a large positive effect on player enjoyment without significantly changing the role of clothing or fundamentally making the game "easy" (because yes, it's a survival game, you should be worried about dying!).

so right now played where i've run into a swarm of bugs,
i was fully clothed, wool hat, rabbit shoes, loin cloth, coat
was fairly fed, i stood in the prairie, so surely not too warm, since next to snowy tundra, so i went there to lower the temp
didn't help AT ALL
temp stayed MAX, hunger dropped within few seconds = DEAD
there is def something wrong with this

I'm not surprised. The mosquito bits with clothing problem persists after the temperature overhaul. I think this is one time where it's valid to say the following:
Take it off!

breezeknight: After the big temperature update, yellow fever was handled as a special case in the "biome shock" code. But two days ago, Jason changed the way that "biome shock" works. It's possible that in the process the interaction with yellow fever got messed up.

Same thing happened to me a few days ago.
I thought Jason intended to fix the "clothes being deadly for mosquitoes" problem?
EDIT: Just played again today.
Now it seems to happen every single time.
If fully clothed, temp gets stuck at max no matter what.
This needs to be fixed ASAP. Clothes are death trap for bugs once again.

huh, i just got yellow fever by myself with a sealskin coat on and was fine, but i usually have some yum bonus when running around, and was on ice.
I'll tell you what I tell all my children: Make basket, always carry food.
Listen to your mom!

How about adding a Body Fat meter to Food and Temp?
Keeping Food Meter at 50% or greater could add to Fat Meter over time, if Temp Meter is 0.25 to 0.75.
Also, a Metabolism Meter could be used. The more someone moves the higher the metabolism gets, and metabolism burns food and fat simultaneously.
Also, the Metabolism Meter could impact the temp meter, say , if a person moves more, their temp goes up, and when they stand still, metabolism drops and temp gain from burned fat and food drops.
Oh real life, why can't you be as simple as Link's three hearts?
I'd love to see you try and incorporate fat and metabolism into the game though.

About three years ago I went on a hunger strike while in jail and didn't eat anything for 42 days. When they incarcerated me I weighed 240 pounds, when I was released I weighed 198. Every time I have not eaten for more than a week (which has been almost a dozen times in my entire life) living on a cup of tap water a day, I have lost almost exactly a pound a day.
10 days, 10 pounds
14 days, 15 pounds
21 days, 20 pounds
23 days, 24 pounds
28 days, 29 pounds
31 days, 32 pounds
42 days, 43 pounds
Those are just some of the times and weights I remember losing, and it didn't matter if I spent most of the time laying in solitary confinement, sleeping almost 18 hours a day, or if I was working out with other inmates on a daily basis. Every time I checked in with the nurse, number of days incarcerated = number of pounds lost, give or take 1 pound.
On the one hand, you could say we already go much, much longer than a human being could go without eating, when one second of real time equals about 6 days of OHOL time. 6 minutes, thats 360 seconds ~ 2160 days, that's almost 6 years of not eating before you die.
I used to joke with the people in the cell, when asked how long it was possible to go without eating. I'd remind them that I lost 1 pound every day, so, if I weighed 190 pounds when they asked, I'd say at most, 190 days, before nothing would be left. But 2160 days without eating, it scares even me to try and fathom doing that while still being conscious and not cryogenically frozen, or in some sci-fi stasis chamber. No, I could imagine slowing my metabolism down and maybe, only losing 0.5, or, at best 0.1 pounds per day, but almost all that weight I was losing was carbon going out with the oxygen I'd breathed in. All that waste carbon from the protein, fat and sugars breaking down, circulating out of my system through my lungs.
Yeah, I'd love a survival game that took body weight and metabolism into account, on top of the usual health, hunger and temperature. People should know just how amazing their bodies really are, while we sit on them playing games and watching videos.
So much potential.
