In my last town someone made stew, then scattered bowls amongst the berry bushes. Berry bushes tend to be in the center of town and you couldn't miss all the stew. Once bowls were empty they could be used to tend berries again by children.
We were headed for stripped bushes even with a pretty aggressive compost operation. As an adult trying to keep the water bucket full and soil in place running to find the stew is hard! But it was right there. Didn't need to eat many berries as a grown up.
We also had this guy who was frozen called William, my older brother. (http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … id=3598805) He had to be fed. Mostly one of my other brothers did this. It was kind of neat. Like this thing that happened with Neanderthals:

Will taught me a lot as a baby. He was not useless.
He made it to adulthood, but then a little girl (Ketch Schuler) stabbed him. Someone stabbed her and I was so happy. What a mean little girl. Why did you kill my brother?

we really need to be able to stack bowls of food so you can just deliver 5 stews to the berry bushes, though i've just been strategically placing my stew pots, since you can move them until the moment you set them on the fire
I'll tell you what I tell all my children: Make basket, always carry food.

Didn't know that! Thank you.
a downside is the ash pile is useless for some time... something to keep in mind I suppose

the ash pile actually disappears pretty damn quickly once you move the crock off of it. I don't know how long but it couldn't be more than 2 minutes.
And yeah, make the stew at a station and then deliver it to various places. i often start the fires myself, but a decent amount of players are smart enough to make a raw stew pot you leave near them.
I like to set up one in the nursery, one by the bakery, and one by the fields if I'm making stew. It's one of the more convenient foods for sitting next to you while you're working.

I try to spread the pots out too. Go to places are, as mentioned, nursery, farm, bakery and smith. This also helps you keep tabs on whats going on. Next delivery to the nursery can be paired with a few tid bits on what needs doing.
Stew is fantastic, it lasts quite a while and as long as you are sure to replant everything an infinite food resource that is surprisingly simple to prepare. I find myself gravitating towards that job quite often. Though this may be because I don't trust most to keep the squash seeds.
When you think about the time and management it takes to keep pies going compared to stew I'm surprised more don't try to get it going sooner. You can do everything at the farm as opposed to bouncing from wheat to sheep to bakery and stew usually only requires one person as opposed to the ideal two of a bakery.

stew is a great food for people staying in the village. Lots of food stored on a single tile. Only issue is that you have to immediately tile and replant the squash, which is not always possible. Pies are probably better since they are "free", they are byproducts of composting. But they are more time and space intensive for sure.
I think the ideal would be to eat almost exclusively stew and mutton pies as an adult, they are the best foods when people are not chaining, which most don't. Then as an old person or baby go for berry/bowl berry, milks, mangoes (unlikely if the place doesn't already have them), breads, sauerkraut, popcorn to make your last years valuable.

If you cannot replant the squash immediately, the seed can be stored in a bowl to protect it from decay.
