Squash seeds question: are there finite squash seeds in a given region

Seeds can be found in the wild. If the wild source is far you must be careful to get and use or save (in a bowl) the seeds dropped when cutting the squash. Is this the only way to get seeds and is one seed the max per squash? It's not hard to manage, but it bothers me when I only have 1 or 2 squash plants in the garden and expanding rows of corn and beans.

Must I run to the yellow grasslands to increase the number of seeds in circulation?

Yes, that's a hard limit. You need to find more wild plants.

It used to be three uses on squash seeds but Jason reduced it to one.

Maybe two would be better? Let you slowly expand your crop.

Thanks, good to know. It's manageable, but just seems odd compared to other crops that are easy to expand. As a town grows you make more crocks, add rows to the soup farm.
I guess it just means that collecting seeds is even more important.

Two seeds would be understandable. Considering that the seeds already decay rather rapidly.

Re: Squash seeds question: are there finite squash seeds in a given region

yeah and my memory is the leaves despawn pretty fast as well, and seeds have to be stored in a bowl, which of course then can't be put back in a basket.

I've had times where finding squash is near impossible, even in a new village, and other times where there are massive amounts. In my experience, people who harvest it know to replant it.

However, there is no real reason that volume, or age, should be a limiting factor. One winter squash produces a ton of seeds, and they remain viable a very long time.

Though, speaking of this, squash were originally grown just for seeds and the flesh was improved over time.

Now that we've had this convo, IMO bowl of squash seeds should be infinite planting like wheat and can be cooked over fire like popcorn. Especially with how hostile some people are to wasting any resources on yum, it would be nice to have a little byproduct of a more efficient food for yum bonus.

There's no real world reason for this limitation, anyone who has carved a pumpkin knows you could plant 20 pumpkins the next year and still have seeds to eat.

I'll tell you what I tell all my children: Make basket, always carry food.

Re: Squash seeds question: are there finite squash seeds in a given region

I'd be okay with the way that squash seeds worked IF wild squash would eventually re-grow more squash in an hour or two.

As it is, I've been in too many towns recently where all the wild squash are empty and all the crockpots are empty and no squash is left in the fields because several generations of bad stew production has lead to squash going completely extinct.    All it takes is one person who doesn't understand squash seeds decay quickly taking over stew production for a few years and all of a sudden you have zero squash and a bunch of useless crockpots.

You can technically go out in a horsecart to gather more squash seeds from distant prairies, but this is just such a ridiculous situation to be stuck in.   I actually really like how each of the crops has its own unique quirks and problems that you must learn.  It isn't intuitive that you can leave wheat in the fields forever, but carrots and cabbage must be harvested within a certain time or they go to seed.  However, that makes these crops unique and rewards you for spending time learning from other people how to tend each type of crop.   Just because you know how to water berry bushes doesn't make you a "farmer".   Just because you know how to farm wheat or beans and you can make compost doesn't mean you are an expert farmer yet.   I like that the "rules" are different for different crops.    Corn is very easy to re-seed, but squash is not.   That's perfectly okay ... but the extremely limited nature of squash seeds is just too strict.

There needs to be a little extra wiggle room for noob mistakes so industrious stew makers don't screw over the whole town in a single generation.
