Eager to try this game, I tried logging in with my email address and my key, and it always comes back with LOGIN FAILED.
My email address has a + in it, could that be the issue?
I've double checked the key and it's correct.

I appear to have the same issue. My e-mail also contains a + and I'm unable to login. I've sent an e-mail to Jason regarding it.

I'm not sure if Jason got back to you, but he responded to my e-mail, removing the '+' from my address. He states that he'll be fixing this in the future.

It worked after I changed the + to %2B after looking at the logs (I assumed it was an encoding issue, so it was an educated guess).

Well, it will break again for you later today, because I'm going to post a fix server-side so that + signs work in emails correctly. Thus your %2B thing won't work anymore!
When you find it stops working, just switch back to the +

Does replacing the . with %2E work? I don't believe . requires encoding though.
Also, there is a gmail quirk: gmail ignores dots in email addresses. So if you register joesmith@gmail.com, emails addressed to joe.smith@gmail.com will also be delivered to you, and vice versa. Maybe this is the problem? You didn't use the exact same email address when buying the game, and when logging into the game?
SirChess: you didn't get an email after buying the game? First, check your spam bin. If it's not there, I would email Jason.

Login is failing as well. My email contains only letters. However, I was having trouble with the latest update. It asked me to change file to "read only." Which for Windows 10, is a recent issue because the file will automatically change back to read only even if you change it. So perhaps that is the problem? I got past the update though, and now my login won't work. Really been eager to play this game so any help would be appreciated.
Also, I bought the game twice thinking that the first one didn't go through, so I ended up receiving two emails with two different codes on them.

My login keeps failing also, email is all letters no symbols. I tried both local and temp login.
It's a gmail account if that means anything
I'm on a mac and I tried the nikooo method of using the terminal but that didn't do anything
My key is correct.

I have updated my custome private server, and now everytime I try to login I get Login Failure.
On the server side it says:
Stackdb magic string 'Sdb' not found at start of file header
Error 1 opening map KissDB
Listening for connection on port 8005
Checking for remote apocalypse
Got connection
Listening for another connection on port 8005
Got new player logged in
Floating point exception (core dumped)
Also, the serverCodeVersionNumber is 72, and no 73. Not sure if that is relevant

Ok, I fixed my issue. I ran makeDBConvert and then convertDBs.sh!
