Do clothes vanish?

Clothes are very important, for how it slows down hunger thanks to the heat they give.

But what I'm curious about is how I rarely see a surplus of clothing. Does anyone know if clothes vanish after some sort of cooldown after they've been made?

It all has to do with dying while wearing or carrying something.

When you die you basically become a container for all your objects. If you die in a field, whatever you were carrying vanishes because your corpse container can occupy the same space as a farm. And then theres the fact that your grave will eventually deteriorate, and all the objects still on your character are spread to the surrounding tiles... so if you die in a crowed spot most, if not all, your possessions will vanish.

That explains a lot. It makes me kind of wish that body-containers could lay on top of occupied tiles, and only have disappearances if a dead body is on top of another corpse.

Pro tip: If you're about to die and there's others around to clean up your grave, die in an open spot. If you're about to die alone, take off all your clothes and don't carry anything. That way someone can find and reuse your stuff.

I like taking off all the clothes in the village, and then running naked into the forest like my character has gone crazy until they die.

As much as I've noticed, the clothes don't vanish, but just get relocated to the next free tile. When this happenes, some pieces of clothing or whatever the person was holding, become invisible.

If this happens around you, you can retrieve the invisible buggy items by placing another object on the suspected tile (as in replace the holding item with the invisible one on the ground)

well, i noticed the disappearing clothes when i picked up a corpse that died in a crowded place and it still had items, it had full set, and when i picked it up, the hat and 2 boots disappeared

When you die on top of soil (planted or not) your bones and everything that you carry will vanish. So it's not really a good idea to tend to farming when you're in your last years.

I clothed a baby with a container and all, picked him up to feed him. He disconnected (either by accident or just quit the game) and all the items vanished, because I was carrying him. So now I am thinking that it might not be such a good idea to cloth babies immediately.

There is also another case of clothes vanishing, I'm pretty sure if someone has an internet cut/which went down, he will disappear with all the stuff he got.

I guess all these reasons are why we always have clothes shortage... I hope it will be fixed.

I still believe they just move to a free tile + some become invisible. Please do check next time if there's something on the nearest free tiles. Works for me every time.

Also, about clothes shortage, I think it's more related to people dying outside of the town. Whenever I become an adult and can walk longer distances, I scout around the town and find a bunch of clothes on dead people killed by bears and wolves.

clothing babies is never a good idea, if you put the naked babies in a large slow fire, their hunger rate will go down to -1/60s

if you give them clothes, they will overheat
