Tiles showing brakes immersion imo, makes you notice that the map is made of a succession of tiles instead of forgetting about it and picturing an actual world made of free space and different ressources.
Is it that necessary to see the tile when having an object in hand? you already know where you want to put it anyway dont need to know the delimitation of the actual tile.

I see it as no worse than highlighting blocks in Minecraft. Our world is tiles. The tiles define us and shape our world. One berry per tile. One tile per berry. That is the way of life. The glowing tiles show us the underlying logic of the natural world. They bring us together and they divide us. Tiles are our world.
Do not fear the glowing tiles. Embrace them.

Yeah, the game had no highlights at all for a very long time.
I really didn't want to show you the grid.
The problem is, when you go to set something down, if you click near the boundary of tiles, the placement can end up being surprising.
So showing the grid ONLY when you have something to set down is the compromise. Then there's no surprise on where something will go. And also, the game isn't full of squares all the time (because there are times when you're not holding anything).
But yeah, the tiles are real.

What about ingame options to turn it off?
Suggestions: more basic tools, hugs, more violence, day/night, life tokens, yum 2.0

I'd hate to lose it. I always have use it to double-check that I'm building on the right tile when I'm doing the corners of sheep pens.

Not having this would make building a huge pain.

There are times when you want to place something behind another object. Trees and Walls come to mind. Without that highlighting effect, it can be dang near impossible. I vote to keep it.
