So I was just in a town where a few people had made fenced little homes. My mom added me to ours so being a good daughter I made stew for the house. The stew just sat there. I could have gotten it going in the public area and will do that in the future. The public zones were unusually dysfunctional for a town of that size. No carrots, no soil, no way to make soil because no carrots. I found some seeds and planted them, and they all got picked and vanished and no compost was out where it could be used.
Should I barter for uh compost? For carrots? Don't have the time. I ran off to the desert (yellow desert) and got more seeds. It really felt like the "tragedy of the commons" people talk about, the inside spaces had supplies outside didn't. That wouldn't be too bad if we were getting things done, but I ran into road blocks at every task.
Maybe this will crystalize into something more rational, but what I'm seeing is either people give up on fences or they make little homesteads so multiple carrot farms, multiple everything.
Strangely my mom had made two fenced areas and say "NAME own this" by the gate of one but I could get in to both. The other was a milkweed farm and someone left the cart and shovel in there which seemed unhelpful to me.
I mean... in a town you are generally one or two families... so who are we keeping out with the fence?
I may turn anti-fence but I want to give it the old college try, you know? Any tips?

i will setup a self functioning shop/fence and post it
generally you need to help others in a condition that they get you stuff for yours

Playing OHOL optimally is like cosplaying a cactus: stand still and don't waste the water.

In my opinion, only sensible use property fences could be used, is as sheep pen. Althought little controversial, I myself don't even know if those fences are permanent or not, but it would make sheep caretaking little bit more safer, since you see bit too often people putting in fenced areas other than sheep, like cows, dogs, pigs you name it.
Besides, having property house would be cool. Though it's hard to see even working, since you can STILL build on front of gateway and griefe even property area. If used as nursery, it becomes nuisance because kids need to get outside, fire users need to come inside etc....
It begs for a question, which reasonable usage it would be given?
- Stew making/stew ingredient farm. I think it would be vital, because how many times I've seen stew tech items missing?
- Cow pen? Make a small L shaped property with cow inside? like
ooo
oxoo
onno
oouo
o= property fence
x= cow
n= reserved for item - or berry bush
u= property gate
I mean... it could work?
Jobs or places which I don't think should be made into property (because it would automatically piss others off)
-Smithery, I saw this one in one village. Town was really angry at happy smith doing his job alone.
-Bakery, so many people run about there, finding food. Very very rarely see any players actually delivering. If delivery thing was more used, it would make property usage more fine.
-Storage, you can dismantle knives, but you cannot really break arrows and bows, so you probably have to make small property storage for those only. Other than that, it has no critical use imo.
If you ever enter Pea (Helkama turns into random name) family, you need the lottery ticket picked up. My baby names given can be absolutely random.

I actually think the future property related stuff is going to be way smaller:
My guess people will use multiple of these to store important stuff such as yum foods, bows, knifes, ropes, etc.
Fenced carrot and milkweed farms might or might not stay relevant. People might even just fence the one carrot/milkweed tile that is supposed to give seeds instead of the whole thing. Like so:

People were building fences around public buildings and claiming them for their own, stealing public tools and resources and hoarding them. Someone even let the sheep out to have some wander onto their property, and the properties themselves were empty because the owners were out stealing more to hoard... and in the meantime the hoarders did no work on the town, they contributed nothing. They were too busy stealing and building fences. No-one could get anything done, people who were there to do work and enjoy building the town were getting frustrated.
I started a communist revolution. Hoarders names were on the gates. Dead hoarders own nothing, and their gates open.

Wow, were you a redhead girl in the city of the Pie family?
Ha, ha, it's so stupid, that we really have to make a revolution.

I did not see how it ended, I got trapped in a locked room with a hoarder who was chasing me around with a knife. Heard a lot of screams.

Well, I died of old age before the revolution, but I remember talking with you at the closed gate. This city was a mistake. I see that after my death, killing began.

I'll mainly be using them to store supplies I need for a project, milkweed and probably my stew farm.. It gets aggravating every time I start gathering stuff I need only to come back to things being taken. This will help greatly getting things accomplished in a timely manner.
The people who just focus their whole life on their property alone, without helping the village at all is the problem. Don't stand your whole life behind the fence, get out and help the village!

i'd rather catch fire than play a game like you suggest
everything good about ohol is related to it feeling not very gamey, picking anything thats on the floor, having to deal with other players, this is part of the game
