First object survey

The way this works is that it finds each person alive on the map, and only considers people more than 20 tiles away from those already considered (so it doesn't pick people close together who have overlapping squares around them).  Then it counts the objects in the 20-radius square around each person, and generates a report.

I restarted the servers to install this update, and here's the first survey from bigserver2:

Weird that there are no pumps to be seen.  I guess some of the villages were lost during the update (Eves only start at the oldest village after the update).

You basically reset the decay timer of bones to 1 hour, so even worse than not digging the bones.

Normal bones need 2 hours, so you can save 1 hour in theory if you do it immediately.
Also there are people role playing being a grave digger and they waste shovels.

if kids die before age 1 they should not leave bones at all or small bones until age 8

250 bones and 2 empty buckets..

and 9 buckets filled with latex. They got one step into the pump and didn't finish them.

Regarding the bone piles, they are an important aesthetic part of the game.  You walk to one corner of the village and see all those bones, and it's like, "Holy crap, look at all these people."

I think it's easy to look at this game through jaded eyes.  Remember long ago, in your first few game, when you first stumbled onto a screen full of bones?  Watch any YT video where they encounter that, and they are shocked and amazed.

It's important not to excise those moments from the game, just because veteran players are sick of them.

So "fixing shovels" would let you clean up these areas cheaply, and dramatically reduce the visual impact of these areas.  I suppose that right now, people only dig a grave for someone they care about, when they plan to put a marker there.  That's probably about right.

The visual of "rows of dirt mounds" just isn't as strong.  If it was rows of tombstones, maybe....  but making that would would require some other changes (there just aren't enough flat stones, currently).

You guys see it as a waste of valuable space....  but people in real life have generally decided that the space is worth it, even in the middle of big cities.

And especially with all the info that's available on each bone pile now....  name, family relationship, age of grave, etc.  It's a pretty rich part of the game.

IMHO, it breaks the immersion... it doesn't look like the surroundings of a town, but a battle field. Or a civilization where everybody died to some form of disease so quickly that burying or burning the bodies wasn't possible.

How about implementing a flat stone pit? It could have the same visuals as iron pits, but yield piles of flat stones.

I do agree that bones are a big part of the game, and I would be very sad to see them removed or made less important. That being said the /die baby bones are just garbage that has no sentimental value. What if nameless bones decayed quickly, while named bones took as long as they do now?

baby bones decaying fast is an old relevant idea.

Tbh, without spam bones from babies we could even have slower decaying adult bones. SIDs bones even have a texture already.

If it's the visual that is important can you let us make stack of bones/big pile of bones, it would be equally shocking but would take much less space plus we could dedicate an area to it, it would reduce the clutter a lot and the area would look impressive with all the pilled up bones. Plus there would still be bones laying around anyway but it wouldnt look like every town has been hit by the plague.

The pile of bones could be built like a container so the names dont disappear when the bones are stacked.
If it acts like a container you could even mouse over it to see name etc when they are on the pile (if im not mistaken).

I see it as a waste of a valuable shovel. The space is fine. Its when some idiom burys all the bones breaking both the town shovels, and stealing all the flat rocks from the smith i have a problem with graves as they are.

If having graveyards is an important thing, we need different ways to mark graves,or flat rocks need to be way more common,and a reduction in steel cost to dig graves (down to zero for an unmarked grave).

I mean I still think ancient graves are the way to go about making graves that are both forever lasting but not able to grief doors like they were before. Ten hours and they just can't be dug up anymore. This would fit in line with how ancient walls work and would at least allow people to make proper graveyards without the worry of someone ripping off or digging up the headstones.

I think the bone problem is generally fine. Sure it's annoying to toss a bunch of dead babies in the trash but at least people aren't out there poking a bunch of bear caves all the time. I myself would rather clean up some baby bones than deal with the hellscape of a bear invasion brought on by a random baby with a death wish.
