Thanks to your support, me and MrXIX decided to actually make the PIES 2.0 Mod a reality.
The textures look great, but we still feel like there is a small issue.
The idea of making plates color-coded by Psykout seemed great at first thought.
When actually made, it looked like this:
(originial size for best refference)
The different rings are fighting for the few pixels the plate has. What would be a fix here? Post your idea and help the mod!

Why color the plate? Shouldn't you be coloring the pie?
Offline
It might be easier to see the textures in default view, rather than zoomed out a bit, to be honest.

When you color the pie it loses visibility when it starts to get eaten. Can you color the outer rim of the plate and not just the inner circle?
Perhaps a color for berry/carrot and rabbit/carrot rather than trying to do a orange ring plus another ring

This screenshot is made in the vanilla client, no zoom mod.

There are three circles, outer(green, rabbit), middle(red, carrot) and inner(blue, berry).
These represent the three different ingredients that can be put in a pie.
When all ingredients are put into the pie, the full plate is colored.

So what exactly is the problem, lack of visibility? Instead of doing rings, you could have horizontal or maybe even diagonal bars. I don't know if that would compromise the aesthetics of it. I feel like horizontal lines would be the most visible, but then it'd probably look like a flag.
Does winning suggestion get access to the tiny tree mod?

Believe you're right, but don't believe you can't be wrong.

In all honesty, it looks pretty good as it is. It's almost easier to tell what each pie is from a distance based on the plate, than it is the actual pie.

I did try lines at first and thex did look quite jarring! Vertical and diagonal. But that's just what I can think if, there's so much more that can be thought of.
Something that came to my mind would be to just add red or orange staining on plates but, really.
Personally I like them bare most?

I mean, not really...Maybe do like Jason does with salt water and draw a letter on the plate. R, B, C, or any combination. It shows up the more you eat the pie.

What if some of the pies were cut radially like how you would normally cut a pie and others were not?

Hmmm...okay, here's my last suggestion. What if you changed the cuts? If we assume that the pies are perfectly readable when full, let's try to keep them as close to full as possible. Your first bite would take 1/8. Then the next bite could take another 8th (so you don't have to make a new 5/8 pie sprite and can reuse the 3/4), or maybe a fourth (to make it slightly more readable but you'd have to make a 5/8 pie). Then after it's half gone, you're only missing 1/4 of the pie (or 3/8). After your third bite, then you would have just the quarter left you normally would, but it would have the letters of whatever pie it was (C, B, CR, C B, CRB, ect.)
That's all I got, good luck with it!

I don't like the rings, I think whole pie, and plate as well if pie eating is a problem, should be red, blue, or green for rabbit, carrot, and berries. And in combinations, do purple (red + blue), yellow (red + green), cyan (blue + green), and white (red + blue + green)

yellow (red + green)
red and yellow makes orange btw....wait, how are you getting yellow from red and green?

How about making a pie which has the same base look like this https://cdn1.vectorstock.com/i/1000x100 … 367030.jpg
But depending on the filling the crust changes color?
Mutton; reddish brown pie crust color
Rabbit; lighter reddish brown
Carrot; orange crust
CarrotRabbit; coral colored crust or 50/50 split orange and light reddish brown
Berry; slightly violet crust
BerryRabbit; purplish crust or 50/50 split of slightly violet and light reddish brown
OR:
There is the ring (oven dish/pie dish) in between pie and plate and that shows the color brightly to indicate pie filling. However, it'd look funny if it gets eaten and it removes the pie dish with the pie...
Also RIP red green colorblind but maybe the darkness/lightness of the colors could shift enough.

He's using color mixing rather than pigment mixing. It's the difference between using light and paint or ink as your medium.

Nice suggestions so far, keep giving them even if they might be not quite viable.
The thing is that even with simple rings there already is a lot of competition for space since it's pixel per pixel.
Perhaps the letters set floating under the pie at all times might work best in fact, for they don't rely on anything else.
but it's somhow imersion breaking.

Is your immersion broken when you see an "S" on a bucket of salt water?
Which reminds me, what the hell is that thing on the seed bowls supposed to even be? It looks like an "O", but why?

Well I mean it is immersion breaking if it floats in space beneath a pie haha.
Hmm...Wouldn't it just look like it was written on the plate? If I saw a letter on the plate, I'd assume it was written on there. Not sure what you mean by floating.

Would this kind of tag on spike ruin immersion?
But what to do with it when pies are in container like basket?
Offline
If it's on the plate it won't be visible for quite a few bites!
The tags again are a lovely idea but yeah the basketed persion will probably be a headache to sort out.

That's the thing, you wont need it until those bites are gone. That's why I suggested messing with the cuts, if absolutely necessary. You wont need to see the plate if one bite is missing, you can still tell what pie it is. The only time you'd need help is when the pie has one bite left (or maybe half). I refer you back to the first part of my last suggestion.

Maybe add a small piece of whatever the pie is made of on the remaining plate. Like if it's a berry pie then put a small berry on the plate, or for rabbit or carrot put a piece. I can't really think of a way to fix the issue, it's not like you can just make the plate bigger right?
