How to make swords more reasonable and have more fun with it

I've been against swords from what I've seen, But I have an idea on how to make them more balanced, implement a cool new game meta, and an overall better game experience.

How about letting us craft a sheath? I've heard others complain about storing them In backpacks, so with the sheath, it would make a Sound effect when you click on your sword to pull it out and it would make a loud sound effect (SHIIIENG) like you can hear when somebody gets bitten or attacked, and only then after the animation it would then be drawn, but holding a sword you would drain YUM bars much faster then if you were not holding it, because fighting requires a lot of energy, and therefore would require more food so they can keep in fighting shape, and also slow your character down a bit since people don't typically sprint around while in a "sword fight"

This way, people have a chance to react instead of just getting run up on with a murder stick, the only way to counter act the being slowed down would be having a sheath to store it in.
Id like to see this evolve into a renaissance era within advanced society's, where it is common for almost everybody to carry a sword around on their waist, this is turns into a discipline thing where now the common man can have a reliable self defense weapon that cant be used to kill EVERYBODY.

Now people can be aware when somebody has the possible intent to murder everybody and in reaction could run to the scene, sword drawn to see what is going on.

Idk I think it would balance the weapon out a LOT if its going to be the crazy murder stick it is currently, and could develop into a cooler game experience overall experiencing high level towns where everybody is ready in a potential griefing scenario/ or a "war" with another village.

Idk I think it could be cool.

I really like the idea of the faster food drain. It's a nice balance. +1

I wouldn’t say slow people down but faster food drain is good!

Re: How to make swords more reasonable and have more fun with it

we need a decent duel system
1 hit fights arent balanced
it only takes a bit of bad intention or a bit of lag and you are dead
if it's a bit more skill based then i would be happy

also if he lieks rust so much, buildings could have durability as well

I did make some changes to the sword, so you can't go quite as crazy with it as before.

Maybe just not letting you contain it in anything at all (not backpack, not cart) would be better.  Actually, maybe only letting it be contained in only the cart?

Anyway, if you couldn't ever stash it, then you'd have to have it in hand when you approached, just like a real warrior, and people would see you with it.

Maybe they could go in a cart, so that people could transport them to sell, etc.

But yeah, maybe a sheath would also make sense there.... they can be transported to sell in the sheath.  But easiest fix, for now, would just be sword in cart only.

Probably not going to tie it into the food system, at least not for now.  It could slow you down when carrying it... maybe it's heavy.

To Jason and the rest of the people in this thread give this up.  Swords are not a good idea for this game.  They are NOT compatible with people playing for their lineages and positively antithetical to people playing for their lineages.  War?  That's a terrible idea from the get go, because it will involve causalities of war, and families just come as too fragile anyways to handle war.  Oh... and the playerbase, those who actually do things for their families unlike toxic who sucks up the town's resources, are not happy.  Nope, I didn't write the responses in this thread: https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=6339

Personally I've played since the update, but ONLY on low population servers.  Why would I play on bigserver2 just so that some idiot has tools to go on a murderous rampage?  Knives could get used to cut food, so there came with positives and negatives.  Swords are just griefing material and the game designer just doesn't have desire or ability to make updates which consistently encourage people to play for their lineages.  Nor does he have the interest or ability to take feedback into account and work from there.  It really isn't hard to figure this out when you look at the history of updates of this game.

I think only containable in cart would be much better for the sword so that you can't hide them in backpacks and others can clearly see you with a sword.
I don't think regular sword should slow you, that could make it worse than knife. Speed is very important for chasing. But bloody sword could have a small slow.

Re: How to make swords more reasonable and have more fun with it

Change them to wooden swords that stun the other person for a small duration. When used on another person they are dropped and can't be picked up by the same person for awhile, 30~1min+. It could be used to defend from attackers until they can be permanently dealt with, either by conventional means (bow or knife) or if 3-5 people also pick it up and attack the original target, they could starve the assailant through a combined coordinated effort. How long have we been asking for non lethal ways to use on others? A bit honestly. Can't recall a lot of requests for a weapon only meant to use on people outside of your lineage and town.
