Most buildings dont look good or are not well placed or too small because someone just puts a wall in a random place then starts building from it without asking anyone and after a certain point realises there is a pond/rabbit hole/other that blocks the way, or that the building is too small or that it's too close from other areas without enough space.
With the current cost of stakes no one puts down all the stakes first then decide if it's good and with the approval of other villagers to start building.
But this would be the logical thing to do, architects make plans first and ask others if everything seems good before starting to build.
Having stakes with the same system as the property fence (infinite stakes that decay when not planted in ground) would be really useful to make buildings more of a group effort and being more efficient and looking better than currently.

I second this idea, being able to stake out a whole building prior, or stake out a berry farm before people start filling in the rows would be nice. Would give us the chance to notice a bad design and counter it, and talk to the person attempting to place them.

quite a lot of wood has to be wasted to make stakes.
Maybe just being able to draw on the floor with chalk/characoal pencil should be enough to propperly plan it out.
Maybe the stakes placed on could be propperly aligned based on it's neighbor tiles. maybe.

Guy mentioned about making them work like property fences.
This is good suggestion I think. Stakes might be a tad annoying while someone is drawing a plan but probably better than needing to hack a bad wall later

Why not just use property fence bundle to check the layout before building? Just don't secure it down.

How about property fences function as stakes - they can be upgraded in place to better walls.

This could work, but it wouldn't be obvious that there is a building that is supposed to be here and not a property fence, so people might just upgrade it to fences or remove them if they think someone is trying to make a property in the middle of town.

Well thought, they need to be separate items that function differently to avoid confusion.

Stake cost ? Take a pie, make cart, go out of town and bring back 8 straight shafts for stakes, 8 curved for charcoal. Why talk about insects when there are tyrannosaurs around ?

Then you have stakes taking up tiles everywhere, cluttering the town. Making them free and decay works better in the long run.
