Can't open game

So I recently bought this and I did everything right. After it downloaded the latest update and restarted, if I clicked the icon it plainly said "The application “OneLife” can’t be opened." The only option was "OK" to respond. I am on an Apple Macbook pro 13 in, mid 2009. The latest software it can download is OS X El Capitan. I hope someone can help, if not, are there refunds?
