Males: What If..?

What if males were given some importance such as boosting a female's reproductive rate when in proximity, while lowering an Eve's birth rate?

This could make males essential for colonizing but come with the drawback that a population explosion could cause starvation, but having a trait that controls population could make males less of an expendable gender than they currently are.
(It's like reverse-China, male babies just want to go suicide and get reborn as they are less valuable)

If I understand Jason's latest post, Eve's are spawned farther apart now, so I think this suggestion is more relevant than before.  You can't really rely on raiding old civs to boost your economy, so the only way to keep everything rolling is to have babies.  If there are no males close to the females, then new players will spawn as Eves -- far away from civilisation.  If there are males close to females, then babies can be born.

I would personally avoid the baby making smooches, since it will just complicate things.  Proximity should be good enough -- and I don't think there even needs to be *any* UI feedback other than babies being born.

It gets wierd very fast. I believe Jason did not implement "sexual reproduction" yet (or will not ever) for reasons like that. He wanted to make it more abstract. Not related to sexuality.

Yeah that too, The men would just try to mate with every woman in sight. They will just overload all the women with kids.
