[Arc Thread] Jones vs Posillico

What happen in this Jones vs Posillico ARC.
Such epic back and foward multiple times.

Both families had times to be on the run, and being hunted down to a few girl childs.
This madness went for almost 30 hours.

I saw times that Jones had a single fertile mom that said "grow hair and leave".
And kids went one in each direction. Trying keep it alive.

Same for Posillico, there are some remote vilages that was populated by both families during rough times.

I LOVE the current state of the game. The imersion on this is AMAZING.
The "hide and seek" during critical times is nuts.

I can only complain that it promote ->>GRIEFFING A LOT<<-.
Since now grieffing is part of the gameplay.
And Many players have zero clue what's going on... why they got stabed by their own child so frequently.

Call me a traditionalist, but I am not a big fan of hide and seek played with knives.

Re: [Arc Thread] Jones vs Posillico

Well all I know when last time I played I haven't had the mood to go far from city, made a cow pen for Jones

found a sword, and we had a horse which is still bugged of course
later a kid and an older guy wanted to raid, so I gave them the sword, wasn't in mood of killing
later on my life I checked the gates, and I was the only owner of  all 3 gates (one was old city gate, but all the old city decaying) was north of us
this means they died
we had a lot of afk females

Playing OHOL optimally is like cosplaying a cactus: stand still and don't waste the water.

Re: [Arc Thread] Jones vs Posillico

As the last female of the Posillico family, I had no idea of the war going on, and was just moving from our north city to the south one, I reached there and found it empty, I was horrified cause it was full of people and now there isn't a single person, I knew instantly something was wrong, and very soon after I started giving birth to kids like crazy so I realized the horrible fact that we are being slaughtered by a group of jones family, I already knew by then my horrible fate if I stayed in that town, but it was too late a huge group of the raiders has already arrived to finish me off as the last female survival... It was really depressing as I've been building the  towns over generations hoping to see the fruits of the work the next day, but again the arc ends so fast...

I strongly disagree with the immersion. Having your kids hunting you down to end an Arc and kids sabotaging a family because they just lived a life as the other family makes immersion a joke.

Playing runaway women for 30 hours sounds terrible, and being a runaway woman sounds terrible. Being hunted down and prevented from playing how you’d like to play because some persistent people want to end the Arc and the way to do it is to hunt you down and organize a killing party. Slipping yourself as a runaway woman’s baby and hunt her down asap... Sounds like a nightmare.

I wish we could have ending conditions that promote keeping families alive. As you said, this one promotes griefing. Although I’d still personally just choose no Rift.

Honestly, the apocalypse should only trigger after a time period instead of "muh interesting family dynamics." This would prevent people from trying to validate their griefing with excuses such as wanting to open up the Eve window to restart.

Start it at three days and slowly increase it until a happy medium is found where the arc isn't so long its frustrating but not so short it feels completely meaningless to do things.

Classically with how things played before the rift I think a week was the happy medium where you stopped caring about visiting an old village (unless it was a really really good one) and were more than happy to be starting a new one from scratch.

So back to the point, start the apocalypse trigger at three days and try to slowly inch it to seven then go back if that's too long.

I would prefer that, however it would probably just encourage more slaughter towards the end when people knew time was up.

Seems a whole lot of work was done there too. All that unfinished compost. All ruined because some jerks wanted to play war.

Edit: Just checked other towns on that map timestamp and oh boy some people were busy. Almost every town I found had bloody corpses. Glad I wasn't there to witness this.

This shows "player caused map changes". So you only see bears where they are woken, shot, or bite someone. They could all be one bear, but I definitely saw some multi-bear attacks Saturday. The spot then stays a bear until something else happens on that cell. I do want to do something with timed transitions for graves, fences, growing trees etc. What do with animals is tricky one - it's interesting that somebody got bit, but there isn't a bear there anymore.

OMG THIS APP https://onemap.wondible.com IS SICK.
IM IN LOVE WITH IT.

Almost every town on this arc was populated by only one family, switching sides multiple times.
This one for example: https://onemap.wondible.com/#x=-324&y=1 … 1569174498
It die and repop at least ten times easily.

This other one: https://onemap.wondible.com/#x=-85&y=34 … 1569174498
Was the "obivous hideout". Never do a "Hide camp" close to the borders kids, it easier to spot you.

I agree with you.
At least there should be a "fair war", instead of a "friendly fire" grieffing.
I have no clue how to fix this.
Maybe cursing should be more OverPowered, so people would get 'family ban' easier.
But that would require players to use cursing more often.

Also curse right now, is broken for big names. (jaaaaaaaaaaaaaason)

Long names are hard to curse because it's """interesting"""

Just increase the area ban for curses from 50 to 100
Increase curse token generation from one every two hours to one every hour.

If someone screws themselves by cursing too often that's their own damn fault while everyone else would likely be able to enjoy the ability to block more than one troll per day.

Fair war requires a nongimmick PvP system yadday yadda.

you cant screw yourself by cursing.
whenever you curse someone he can't be born to you or near you BUT you can be born to him.

Killing a griefer kills him for 10 minutes, Cursing him kills him for 90 Days.

4 curses kill him for all of us,  Mass Cursing bring us Peace! Please Curse!

Then there's no reason to limit cursing besides protecting trolls. Might as well get one each life since there's a curse cut off after someone has been dead for five+ minutes.

This was already changed when the curse system was overhauled. You currently generate 1 curse token every 30 minutes. When looking through Jasons github changes I couldn't find anything that says that he somehow changed it back to the old system. Here's the github change in question:
https://github.com/jasonrohrer/OneLife/ … c5cb1d1fa6

"Local personal curses replaces centralized curse server. Each player on a server gets one token per 30 minutes (was 1 per 2 hours) to curse another player. That marks the player for 48 hours, preventing them from getting born within 50 tiles of the cursing player. If a cursed player runs out of mothers inside the Eve window, they become an Eve. If a cursed player runs out of mothers outside of the Eve window, they go to donkeytown."
