Look at any fairly well established colony and you'll see a tonne of home markers. It would be good to at least be able to see which ones are active so you know which one you can break down and reclaim. Or even better would be to be able to claim it as your own. Maybe if you use a round stone on it, just so that it's a deliberate act, rather than accidentally clicking on it and possibly losing your existing marker.

This is a great suggestion.

And maybe at later stage, to be allowed to set more than one markers...

I had no idea I was taking away active markers from other people. Oops.
I actually prefer the idea of having your Mother's (Eve) marker be your own until you decide to make one yourself. Like most actions in the game, setting up markers is supposed to be somewhat mysterious (you need to cut down saplings and then use a stone) and time consuming. This is okay (of course, the player gets no feedback on this).

It would be way better if there were one per village, since space is always at a premium. That can even define the center of a village, next to the fire. So anyone can build one and then anyone can claim it.

People should be able to claim markers just by touching them, without disturbing other people's set marker.
I also think you already do inherit your mother's home marker, though it doesn't seem entirely consistent

You inherit your mother's marker, but only if she placed it before you were born. Also, as I mentioned, simply touching the marker might be too dangerous in case you accidentally erase your own marker. Something more deliberate but not technologically challenging, like using a stone on it, would be safer.

Using a stone on any marker to claim it would be simple and intuitive.

One of my mothers told me that I could cut down and re-plant a marker and then it would mark home for me AND still work for whoever planted it before.
Is this correct or did we mess up someone's marker?

Just cut it down with sharp stick and rebuild with round stone. Chances are the marker owner is dead.
As a rule, put your own home marker a ways off. Will reduce people cutting yours down.
In general, build in places where biomes are easy to get to so people don't actually need home markers.
As a suggestion, multiple owners of home marker would be ideal.

digging up and replacing the home marker did not seem to remove it from the previous owner. yesterday we shared 1 home marker with 4 people.

That's very helpful!

Ah, brilliant.

Had an unfortunately horrible death today due to getting lost because I dug up my own home marker in a pinch to cook a rabbit, assuming this would still apply. Let's just say that digging up your own one definitely does remove it and that I didn't notice until it was too late.

This is probably a dumb question, but what does the home marker do? I played last night and never used one.

You get an arrow on your screen pointing to it so you never get lost. Super handy!

Yes, you can reset them without worrying about messing them up for other people.
All the home marker stuff is handled client-side (not server-side), so their client will remember where they last created a home marker, even after you take it down or move it.
Placing a home marker just tells the client "Hey, remember this spot."
Also, home markers are in a stack. If YOU take down your own home marker (or set a new one and clear it w/in one screen of where your old marker location is), it is cleared from the stack, and the next location down on the stack becomes current.
So, you can have your home base marked, and also your satellite camp marked for a while. When you're done working at the satellite, you can clear that marker and then find your way home.

Oh wow, that is awesome. Definitely incoporating this into my play style.
