Fishing/sea water biome/“culture” community

Sorry in advance this post might be a mess..

I was thinking about the future of our awesome game, and it made me think about what happens when a town cannot support itself. Well it trades with another town, a town in the prairies, one in the mountains, and one on the coast! I think this would be a wonderful idea to bring towns together!

So fishing.. I am a seafarer IRL, and I would love to see a coastal community/biome brought into the game where hunters are in turn fishermen.. Fisher people? This would create a community family by the ocean that would trade with the prairie land lovers for meat and furs, or the mountain people for metal!

Thanks for the read, sorry if I was confusing!

I imagine at the very least we'll ultimately be able to fish the goose ponds or whatever.

An ocean or lake biome of sorts would be awesome! Would take a lot of work though

With the new spawning mechanic, trading with other villages will never happen, ever. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Sorry friend, to burst your bubble, but this game is much to young to make statements like that.. I’ll continue to make my POSSIBLE suggestions.

Cheers!

Sorry to burst your bubble everyone, but Jason already stated that water biome or even just adding rivers is currnetly unsupported by game engine he spent few years developing and he is not going to rewrite it to add anything water based in foreseeable future.

Did he say which aspect(s) of it would be difficult?  Obviously a new blue biome is doable and I'm guessing making it impassable, or pulling infinite water out of it, wouldn't be too hard.  So is the hard part boats?  Or bridges?  Or...?

how is the engine not supportive of water? he can create new biomes (new desert biome for example) if he made a new biome textured as water, make all "water" biome spots unwalkable (like trees or wooden boxes), np right ?
just like any other biome objects could have a spawn chance in these lakes. like the rabbit hole in the sand, the lake could have fishing spots.
since most eraly citys trive trough ther advanced irigational systems i find it hard to beleave its going to be excluded from the game.
Just my thoughts. let me know yours.

Edit : Didn't scroll my page all the way down lol, dito post above.

Re: Fishing/sea water biome/“culture” community

Direct quotes from Jason on discord:

@ZixXer all this artwork is drawn on paper and scanned in.  Please try doing that yourself (with colored markers or pencils) and make river tiles that line up correctly with each other.... it's impossible without a lot of tweaking in photoshop

I believe coastline would be the same in this case.

Rivers and oceans require a lot of extra programming.  Rattlesnakes and horses required no extra programming.

It took Jason 3 years to get what we have now.

I dont really understand the Problem... In Carcassone it works exactly like that with rivers.

Lets admit: Jason is not the best programmer or graphics designer there are. He does what he likes the way he can. He already also told us he is not going to get help from other people as in hiring.

Even if he never adds oceans or rivers, there is no reason he can't put fish in ponds. Or even make 'fish ponds'. We got worms, and making a fishing rod should be fairly easy.

Huh.  I mean, it's not like anybody is saying "OMG THIS IS THE MOST REALISTIC SWAMP TEXTURE I'VE EVER SEEN".  If it's blue, we'll probably be happy with it.

But yeah, it's his game and if he's not happy with it, our low standards don't really matter I suppose.

Yes, we'll advance to the space age, with no oceans or rivers. Plausible.

Re: Fishing/sea water biome/“culture” community

early man often settled near coast lines and large lakes. I agree it would add something amazing and realistic to this game. In nature one person would deplete the wildlife in a 1 mile area with in days. when it comes to coastal areas fishing was a huge staple and would takes years to over fish even with the most careless communities.
