So we are now sans rift. From how I understand it, untouched towns or other areas that have been touched will reset after 7 days of no usage, correct?
Will this also delete any maps in populated areas pointing to the abandoned spot? If not, will you be able to travel there and find nothing? Just wondering if that is something that could potentially be an issue.
Thanks

I would be extraordinary surprised if maps were anything more than a set of coordinates, with no link to the target location. So yes, they will become maps to untouched wilderness.

You wouldn't need to have a direct link to a location to mark or clear outdated maps. The coordinates should be enough. When the game decides to reset an area, the game will also know which coordinates are affected. Just enumerate through all the maps and find the ones with coordinates inside that area. Mark or reset maps as Jason wills. This should not be a problem as long as it's somewhat efficient to find all the maps in the game.

The way maps are implemented (as map objects with writing metadata attached to them), iterating through them is non-trivial.
A map to something that doesn't exist anymore (after 7 days of not seeing it, and no one following that map for 7 days to see it) is kind of a beautiful and extremely rare thing.

It's kinda sad that maps are always up-to-date. It would be an interesting experience to use a map to navigate to another town, only to find out that it was wholly consumed by wilderness.
