Family Name Change After an Eve

I was born in the Burns family a while back as Victoria Burns, and when I looked at the family tree, I realized that the first generation's Eve was called Eve Sorrows instead of Eve Burns. How can a family name change from generation 1 to generation 2 like that? Any idea?

The family was still nameless when the daughter was born. When daughter grew up she named herself Burns. Eve (still nameless cuz her daughters last name doesnt affect her) said 'Im so sorry' as her dying words - therefore setting HER last name as "Sorrows".
She didn't name herself and probably didn't intend to with that message anyway.

Nobody can name themselves except eve. A member of a Burns family must have been nearby, who name the anonymous child.

Basically this. Eve didn't name her child before herself but a nearby Eve/Family named the child which means the name passed down was Burns instead of Sorrows.

There's a few problems with that though. If you name someone from another family, they keep their own family name. Why would it be different here? The child would only have a first name. Also, the message autocorrects when you name someone or yourself, so "I am so sorry" would not look like this if it had been the message that gave Eve a family name...

Well the kid didn't have a family name. Someone from the Burns named them, passing on THEIR last name because the child had none and eventually the eve said I am sorry, calling themselves Sorrows.

I had a similar scenario, but the name didn't change.  Actually, I am curious how it does change.

Anyways, if anyone is familiar with the "New" family that was around yesterday, I was the Eve for them.  The family name was "New" literally because I typed "I am new" to my first child.

After I realized what I just did, I laughed and went with it, I guess it's fitting since it was my first Eve and I had a rough time starting out.  First kid set us all straight though, and family lasted decently IMO.  Sorry, I digress, but I can relate to the original name at least.

Ah I get it, Eve gave her name AFTER the child gave herself a name.  This makes sense. 

Looking at the family tree, that must have been an amazing playthrough.  First Eve dies at age of 16, only one daughter... yet daughter survives and makes a very successful family, with a new name even.

I was Eve Burns. A random child wandered upon me and my kids so I named her. Ended up giving her my last name

Did you get genetic credit for the child? That would be an interesting approach to pumping up one's genetic score lol, sounds like it might only work for stealing eve babies though, too bad
