Earlier today I played as Janaisia Dupuy and had zero babies, which I find as weird because it's the weekend and I would have thought people were playing?
I stayed fed and wore as much of the clothing as possible. Still no bbs. Any idea why this happened? It's what killed my family.

There was an update today, during that time births are turned off until people live out their lives, people go over to server1 usually, then the same thing happens in reverse. (though today it looked like stayed in split mode because of the number of players) Don't know how much earlier you are talking about though.

It looks like it was 2-3 hours before the update, comparing this family tree to the five in this thread: https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=8717 Players do get directed to server1 sometimes if they don't check bigserver2 as a custom server.

Actually that only applies when a non-pre-defined connection address, i.e. the default setting, is used. Ergo, if you manually choose to spawn in BS2 by ticking the "use custom server" box and then typing in the server address, you can still get in, even when people who have not done so get re-directed to S1. This can be used to intentionally delay BS2 from automatically restarting, for instance.
As for getting no babies, I noticed Jason rolled back, intentionally or not, the equal baby distribution algorithm some time ago, around the time we got the tool and "biome access tied to race" update. I've Eve'd several times since, and had almost no kids, while there were families with dozens of people on the server at the same time. Have had the same situation with non-Eve lives in low-pop families too.

Huh, I was under the impression that when the server was in "shutdown mode" it would actually refuse new connections.

I don't recall it being deliberately rolled back, although there was a birth rate cooldown to keep from overwhelming eves at some point.

I had this happen once but it was late at night and I was intentionally bombing my yum score because I was out exploring and I didn't want babies.
Any time I've kept my yum score going high, I've never had literally zero babies. And I've had cases where I was intentionally bombing my yum score and had like 7 babies anyways. (All but one died... because I was in the wilderness and there just weren't resources to feed that many, and babies kept running off.)

If my memory serves me correctly, I had tried to log into one of the other servers during an update period many months ago and gotten locked out. I also think I heard about others doing that recently. However, I don't think I took into account whether or not anyone was still on the server when I got the idea of "shutdown mode". I guess also, bs2 could differ in this respect from all other servers? I'm still don't feel sure that Fulmen is correct. I would prefer some verification or refutation.
I think the way to test this would be to see the bs2 population when the other servers are offline. Then a bunch of people log onto bs2 simultaneously to hopefully have a population increase greater than the population decrease previously happening. Is Eve spawning possible during this period? If it is, then the population of bs2 could be very low. But, if Eve spawning is not possible during this period, trying to log in when the population is very low won't do anything, because it's likely that no fertile females remain at that time.

I logged in to BS2 a few weeks back during an update cycle by using the custom server address. Immediately spawned as Eve, as the server only had a few people remaining, as almost everyone had been respawned into S1. I quit, waited for the other people to die off and then watched as the server restarted normally, then went back in post-update, I think for an Eve run.
You'll just have to see for yourself though.

Alright, so during an update period then theoretically a group willing to use tactics like the Boots if necessary could keep its numbers under 15 people on bs2, and thus not have any race restrictions or tool slots on, build up an advanced town, make a bunch of roads along the predicted Eve Zizag from the left back to the town, get off bs2, and then many of the Eves would have a clear path back to the advanced town. They might even load up on a lot of kerosone.

I won´t refute you, but during the last update I tried to connect to one of the less populated servers manually and I got a connection failed message. The server was still online (there was another player also). If you are right then BS2 is the only one that can be accessed while people is being redirected to server 1.

a couple of explanations are:
- jason's updating the game.
- maybe you were unlucky.

I tested your assertion Fulmen.
I logged in after the odd numbered servers had come back online. It said that there were 58 people on bs2 and 11 on s1. I did NOT download the update. I checked the custom server box with the correct name "bigserver2.onehouronelife.com". It told me that bigserver2 had been shut down.
Apparently, the "shutdown mode" refusing connections idea is correct, whether it was wondible's or mine.
Edit: I tried to log in again just to double-check, and got the 'server has been shut down' message again and couldn't log in.

Unlucky, or he fixed it. Either way, worked for me a few weeks back.

It makes sense to block all server access or the players could potentially block the server update indefinitely by spawning manually into BS2.

True.
That said though, Jason said that expected that eternal survival of one family would be possible when he re-introduced boundless world 2.0, and also wondered about why very long lineages hadn't existed a while back. Well, they can't, because of how the update process works and no way for a lineage to get reborn after an update. Alright, maybe I've digressed.
