What can we do to make it not just for role players?
Maybe being able to claim lands and buildings for your kingdom that prevents non-followers from interacting with anything but food items and such.
As a leader, you could request reports on things like "Gooseberries watered by John Smith" from your subordinates. As long as someone in the group saw them doing these actions, they will be counted to your report. This could be explained by people in the village gossiping about who did what. This would make having a leader more advantageous if you could weed out those who don't contribute.
What do you guys think?

I made a proposal generally in line with your thoughts regarding land-claimage and Exile/Outsider restrictions.

It's been proven with the two hierarchy updates that the system CAN work if the right people end up in charge, but because the system lacks gameplay mechanis that chance is lower than it would ideally be.
As far as tracking what actions individual players have done (and not the collective), I think Jason would have to add that. But I think the other systems would be much more valuable to the player-controlled judgements rather than raw stats.

But let's be real here. Currency, Leadership, Nations are all role play in real life.
It all has real power because the majority of us committed to the rp.

Yeah but in order for it to be used in-game for things other than memes, it would need some practical use.

it was useless from the very beginning, to be fair.

On release, eh, kind of, yes. The potential for organization was interesting.
However, I would consider the Hierarchies system as "existing in the game" once Orders were added. The Hierarchies mechanic itself wasn't useless at that point, just incredibly niche on the amount of people that understand how to effectively use it. The orders can instantly relay information across all members, which is a highly effective way to request help, to locate a person...you name it.
The problem, however, was the fact that each generation wouldn't necessarily have a good person to put into the role of the "Highest Leader", or even just Leader in general; everyone sees it as a joke and doesn't consider the actual potential for using it on things besides memes.
The system is not useless, far from it. However, because of the "appearance" that it is useless, people will continue to treat it as such until more features are added to it, or until people were able to see - repeatedly - how good the Orders system is at keeping a village super productive.

One way to make leadership useful would be to add a "my allies own this" command to property Gates. Make it so only people that have been in the leadership chain for at least 3 minutes can use it. That prevents people from just temporarily following you to get gate access. It can still be abused by quickly following someone and running away before they see your name. Babies follow their mothers leaders so by the time they are old enough to use they gate they will have access.

Yes it's pretty useless atm, why? because we dont need leaders, why? because we do fine on our own and it's not challenging to survive, which means organizing people and ressources, something that a leader would do, is pointless since it's unneeded.
in other words, game too easy, no risk of failure, dont need strategy and leadership

This, and applying property gate mechanics to actual doors so you can claim a building for you and your allies.

Another idea is to make people automatically join the leader's posse.
But yeah, it doesn't help when you don't know what to do. Orders help with that, but you still need someone with a plan and willing to delegate tasks.
