There's an update planned, as anyone could figure out by checking dev-changes on the discord or by seeing the most recent post from the game designer. Here's some lineages doomed to die, if not dead by the time you read this:

So that people don't get deluded into thinking that their lineages can live forever. There's a comment elsewhere suggesting that someone thinks this or wants to encourage others to engage in such delusional thinking.

Then logic would point to posting to that person? Also why does it matter if they do want to believe that lineages last forever. It isn't affecting your life, at all.

Families could live forever Spoonwood, as long as we don't get an update with servers reset. But this doesn't count

There is no lineage that has ever lived under those conditions.
And even if there did exist such a lineage, that lineage still won't last forever. The feasibility of a lineage lasting forever after it started, is so low that even supposing that the public servers stayed up without any more updates coming down the pike, that you're fooling yourself if you believe that such would happen.
Talk about the possibility of a lineage lasting forever under present conditions has ever so little meaning, because even on paper there's not enough reason to expect that such would happen in any circumstance. Not if talking about the possibility of something is supposed to have connection to anything real.

Who wants to live forever ... when love must die?

813 generations in longest family line. Are you saying it's impossible to live to 814 generations only because nobody did it before, Spoonwood? How about 815? or 1000? or 2000? If servers aren't reset it all depends on players how long their lineages will survive.
And by saying forever I meant as long as servers are running and as long as people are playing, wasn't it clear?

When you say "forever", Spoonwood assumes you must mean "heat death of the universe". It is important to be very specific to avoid confusing him with your weird assumptions.
Unfortunately, no lineage will last that long, both in the game and in real life. No one gets out of this game alive. We are all doomed to die, whether we play OHOL or go outside and live the one life we are granted at birth to our fullest
Of course, you do not "win" the game called "Life" by living forever. Not dying is simply not an option. You WILL die. Nor do you win by refusing to play the game. That is loser talk. You win at life by living well and making every minute matter.

No, I don't quite mean that. More like "heat death of the OHOL universe".

None of those are close to forever.

Well, then lineage death by update counts, because it happens when servers are running. So again, I don't believe that it's possible that lineages can live forever.

Assuming that living "forever" is not possible due to updates, what would you consider to be a reasonable time between updates to allow lineages to achieve their full potential prior to reset, Spoonwood?
Is there inherent value in a lineage living for a very, very, very, very, very long time, beyond bragging rights? I like to think quality of life is more important than quantity.

This information feels kind of worthless, most people (if not all) are aware that a lineage cannot live forever because of technical issues (because of updates, resets, etc) And if they claim that it is forever it is most probably just bad use of wording. And if they really mean it then they dont know anything about OHOL at all, or about how a videogame works.
I think it would be more interesting to see *why* those lineages died. Starving? Griefing? Lack of resources? Would be a way to see how this last update is affecting villages on the long term.

Damn, I really should carefully pick words when talking with you, Spoonwood. Treat forever more like a time between two arcs. Because we are talking about the game and not about real life, right?
If this game was played only by expert players, lineages wouldn't die out at all except for server resets. That's what I meant by saying IT IS POSSIBLE for a lineage to survive forever.
Of course this scenario won't happen and families will die out every while, because we play among tons of people who can't play and do more harm to their lineages than help them... And griefers.
Lineages will survive longer once people's skill increase... But then we will have more and more new players, so I'm not really sure it will ever be better :D

Oh god. I thought you necro'd that old as fuck thread with the same title.
In other news, you should be much more worried about the game being doomed to die than lineages
