Well the trailer is one thing, and the CURRENT developpers words are another thing. You can't just hang on the trailer's advertisement as "the promised lands", the game has changed ...
One absolutely can and should hang on what the trailer says as promised. Not doing so is an invitation for the trailer to disregard what got advertised.
Well for Jason it was a problem at the time being, if not , ¿why would he even have bothered at all to make his game less enjoyable, for most of the players, if that could potentially have shattered the community ?
Because of his a priori, purely speculative notions about how the game should be. Haven't you read the Evolve or Die post from 2017? Alright, maybe you haven't.

Well the trailer is one thing, and the CURRENT developpers words are another thing. You can't just hang on the trailer's advertisement as "the promised lands", the game has changed, different scenarios paint different results, sometimes what we are promised with can change and turn into a whole different result, depending of a variety of factors that we cant always control.
Well for Jason it was a problem at the time being, if not , ¿why would he even have bothered at all to make his game less enjoyable, for most of the players, if that could potentially have shattered the community ?
1. Trailers are meant to be the first official impressions of a game and do advertise what could be expected to be. Saying that they are no the same thing should not be even be legal. What you see should be what you get. (What are you saying implies that false advertisement is ok)
And i might be ok with that a little, stuff just happens you know? you cant keep up to all promises, and thats ok, the best you can do is try to keep it as true as you can. Which he isnt trying to do. He is making it harder, more confusing, more tiring and making it more stale. You cannot complain about the tech tree being too short if your family doesnt live long enough to reach it.
2. Jason doesnt know his game anymore. I dont think he even understands it. 15 years of game design and he still fucks things up tremendously, i wouldnt be trying to shame him for that if he wasnt the one claiming he already knows what we want and that we should stay quiet because we dont know what is fun and what we like. Imagine what we could have if he didnt spent half a year on the rift, the other half on trying to make wars happen, and now months of trying to make the posse work properly. (Remember the poll update? that was never used since it released?)
I dont really have anything against the guy, he is probably a great guy to be with. But oh my god he is so fucking stubborn to admit he might not know what he is doing anymore with this game. I dont really know what this game is supposed to be or where is it supposed to be going to.

MinPosseFraction now 0.66 (was 0.5), which means you need a super-majority to agree before you land a kill. The cap has been pushed up to 99 (was 5), which is effectively unlimited, which means that a rogue posse cannot slaughter a village unless the non-posse members are in the super-minority.
Change is live already.
Note that this will work together with the perpetual inherited leadership this week to make legitimate organizing and posse-forming and killing easier.

What about griefers who steal things or kill all the sheep? Those kinds of griefers are worse than murderers because they go undetected. There will undoubtedly be more of those after the posse update, and it'll be harder to kill them. Murder was never the real issue. It's a lot worse when people hide tools than murder, the murder system was fine the way it was.

What if killing someone within the hierarchy takes a super majority of hierarchy members.
Killing someone who is an exile of the hierarchy takes three people
Killing someone who is not in the hierarchy takes only you attacking.
You can only leave or pledge loyalty to a hierarchy every twenty minutes.

Yeah, I have thought about tying it to leadership and such, but it gets pretty complicated fast.
Like, what if you're exiled by one king but not by another? Who can kill you then, and how many people do they need behind them?
I'm still thinking about it....

This is really getting out of hand...

Glad killing could be taken out of the game, it was a pointless feature to begin with, no more griefers yay!

why not make one "king" per family home area for example the one with the most followers.
If by default people follow the one with the higest "gene" rating instead of just following the mother by default, there would be a good chance that this "king" knows what he does.
This king can then kill / order to kill anyone and can be killed by anyone.
i guess with a high gene rating he / she is smart enough to defend his life most of the time.

No, you haven't had a thought worthy of the name 'thought'.
There is no solution, because even if you assume that a solution exists, there still will exist some way for Bobo and his gang to annoy and harass players through destructive means, which means that it's also the case that no solution exists. And it's a fairly simple law of logic that if a proposition implies it's negative, then the negation of the proposition is true.
What a waste of time. Bobo has already done engine scrapping and domestic boars.
He could also bring bears to towns, using a mining pick on kilns and ovens, block off wells, burn water in newcomen engines, move all of the buckets out of towns, hide all the bellows, and the like.
He doesn't give a damn either. Banning him is about all that will work.

Right, and then he buys another account and does it again. So not even banning will work.
He already has more than one account, which he uses to work around the fact that he gets sent to d-town so often.

Jason, You're pushing the limits of a system that wasn't meant to work in isolated cases like these, where a community of griefers, gather puposely to kill people... now we cant even kill anyone without spending most off your precious lifetime, trying to gather a posse(and we cant even guarantee that that will work).
The posse update helped restrict the amount of total casualties by solo killing, but now we dont even have that, the new concept is totally alien from what we had before, and this new addition, is totally wothless against other more direct methods of griefing(removed killing but at what cost).
The killing mechanics, back in the day, were meant so that we, the "normal" players, could sort out the problems DIRECLTY, the posse update helped to restrict when you could kill someone.
If now, we would like to eliminate some griefers from our gameplay we could simply curse them and spread the word to others, on why that person should get cursed, to further punish the undesired player, hoping that he would end in donkey town.
But cursing only worked in the long run terms, (and it too could be abused or misused by players)for example: it doesnt help you when you're playing with the actuall griefer, sure, you can curse him... but he will continue to do his thing... thats when killing mechanics entered in action(balanced the equation).
Besides, the curse system doesnt even work for players that keep getting new accounts at will, well he could tire of buying new account but we really dont know that.

No that doesn't follow, because he keeps on getting banned over and over again that way and doesn't have the ability to buy an infinite amount of accounts. He would stop buying accounts after a certain period of time.
Again, stop telling yourself/writing lies.
He already has more than one account, which he uses to work around the fact that he gets sent to d-town so often.
This is why bans should have existed from the beginning of the game. Because even with banning it takes time for those people to go away.

No one has an infinite amount of money. The only question comes as where the limit of how many accounts such a person would buy. The game does not get better with such a person around. They just end up more clever over time and more destructive.

Games not gonna be relevant for infinite so the need for infinite alt accounts doesn't make sense. Instead what would probably happen is the game would die and they would just refund them all.

You're right, Lightning... and I'm working on alternatives (see other thread).
The current implementation (super majority) is more like a prank, just to prove that it is possible to stop someone like Bobo.

You know, the snarky remarks towards bobo are only going to make it worse for players. He's probably going to try harder now.

It didn't prove anything, because he wasn't stopped.
Again, he's already done boars and scrapped engines. I don't doubt he'd do such again.

I understand, i really hope you can find the right solution to the underlying problem.
Afterall, the community depends on you, to make this game the greatest and most unique proyect ever, we are a part of your game, and the days where we were foreigners are long gone.
Cheers

The engine thing needs addressing. Anything that takes so much effort to construct and is so important has to require a lot of effort to deconstruct.
I'd rather see people with guard like powers as others have said than posses. Solo kills benefited defence as well as griefer. Maybe a guard tower allows only guards to access and from up there they get a zoomed in view of 2x or 3x but either way we go back to solo kills and all the anguish that provides.
