Instead of using a diesel engine, you could build a Newcomen tower inside an Unpowered crude car.
Cars with diesel engines use kerosene to move around, and kerosene is hard to get. However, Newcomen towers only need water and charcoal to move, so they'll be cheaper to use.
Of course, a Newcomen tower is very heavy, so to support the extra weight, an extra pair of wheels must be added.
Here's a preview of what the car might look like:

This would be awesome from a playability perspective.
I have never driven a car, and doubt I will anytime soon (in game).
It is at direct odds with Jason's goals. The tech tree in game should reflect the technology's actual development. I doubt this will happen. Would be useful though.
What is an ominous blade blank?
It's that blade blank next to the file and short staff you see in a naked toddler's basket.

It's illegal for high tech content to be usable.
Cars are worse than horse carts and radios are worse than using pxcchat.
Need to add more low tech answers for more useful content lel.

I think I made a mistake a while back when I inferred that Jason wasn't all that bright when he made cars, radios, and planes (sorry fug... tutorial towns didn't last long from what I've heard), and none of them (or at least the first two) was ever consistent with people playing for the sake of their lineages. I should have just inferred him as a liar and not all that bright.

I don't think irl a Newcomen car was ever created. They had gas, electric, steam, but no Newcomen. Newcomen was used primarily for pumping for mining and whatnot if I recall correctly.

Maybe not a car but a steam engine. It would be hard to make but would be cheaper than cars in return. Of course steam engines would have to use rails to move around but that would make rails useful for once. If you could attach carts to your engine, that would make trade so much easier (assuming that there is a rilroad between towns).

what is the problems with railroads currently, never saw much of them...
Offline
My issue with railroads is they require a lot of iron and the cars on them don't move fast enough for the immense work required to set them up. Also, people can't ride the cars.

The horse is honestly too powerful. Nobody could argue that Cars in this game are good, Not even Jason.

As much as I want new fresh content, there are still a few areas of the game that need reworking, with transportation being the biggest offender.

cars use kerosene while horses got no upkeep (jason sees this, nerfs horses)
also cars need kerosene slot, or you stuck somewhere and can't come back so essentially 3 slots remaining while horses with upgraded tire can hold 8 big items, that's 9 vs 24 if you use baskets
the amount of work a car needs, we would really need massive encumbrance, by the tire logic, it should be 4x as normal carts, so 16 big, 48 small
loading it would take 10 minutes for some xD
the main issue is that you don't use the horse from fence to fence, as jason thinks or won't worth making a fence when you just take resources from that spot
cars are way worse cause you can't time the engine, you can't stop it so it runs even if it's not moving
either it should be a distance-based usage and stop while not used or time-based but with the ability to stop it, that 2 minutes is still very bad for the cost of kerosene, should be way higher, if you burn the equivalent of 40 bowls of water you would expect that it should move a ton of resources, but thi design is so bad thinking about high distance, even if you go 3x faster, you would need that for like 4-6 minutes for 2000ish distance (100 tile on foot, 300 on horse, 900 on car), sure, it's 2k if you know the way but maybe you find something or you don't know exactt location
for carts, would need more load as well, at some point he promised that big rocks would go on it, even then you should be able to stop at any location (or any location with a lever) and then maybe auto load and unload items at the end of the track
