I once had my mom die carrying me in the middle of the desert. I refused to give up and kept going. Ran into some banana trees. Half way into my last food box I picked a banana and ate it. Most bad ass baby play I ever had.
The reason you put up with new players is because this game is only fun if there are lots of players. We need and inflow of new players to balance the outflow of those leaving.
Also a little chaos keeps it interesting.
And finally if there were no bad players, it would not be so satisfying to be good.
That said I think your support of newbs should be portional to the challenge you face. If I am an eve or near eve I let babies starve if they fail to follow without orders or fail to seek out perfect temp. But if there is plenty of food I will feed daughters with berries and milk for a long time.
Frankly I find the fact you worry about griefers to be a signal that you are still an intermediate player. Griefers are easy to avoid. Many a time I would flee into the wilderness to wait out a griefers. Even raise families out there. It is intermediates and worse that get screwed by griefers.
Being a baby is a skill. So many people coast through babyhood. And that is why you losers die like punks

I was born to an eve in an environment that was pretty picked over. I knew mom was not coming back after she did like 10 breast feedings and then ran off towards food. My siblings were morons that fidgeted around and panicked. They wasted time looking for her or trying to pick up things. I just found perfect temp, sat still, and waited to develop motor skills. The minute I had hair I ran to where I remembered food. I came back to watch Nana die. Gods I hated Nana. She got a name AND breast fed until 6. I knew she was going to die because she was begging an eve for food instead of looking for her own food after coming of age.
Hey mom, I appreciate you trying to keep me and my siblings alive (except Nana, you should have let her die). I want you to know your efforts were not in vain. I built a berry farm using the kiln and tools you gathered. And then lucked out by having one girl right before menopause and I kept her alive with berries after my milk went dry.
Hey Lucky, my last daughter. Sorry I did not talk much. I was in bed with my two real kids. It is hard to use keyboard when they sleep on my arms.

Okay, I take your point. But even so, it's still a terrible experience for new players - they won't know to do any of those things, or be able to do them well, and thus will still spend many of their spawns watching their mother run away while they wait to die.
Bad new player experiences are bad for the game's survival and bad for Jason's income.
I agree that having the hardest part of the game right at the beginning is an bad result of the theme. In the big scheme of thing it makes for a richer experience, but it is definitely not something a game designer would normally do. Perhaps someone could mod that on a private server. Like babies don't suffer from hunger
i like small families where a little effort can help them survive
I agree. I love like coming in as like as the daughter or grand daughter of an Eve, or when a village has just suffered a set back and is almost dead. Those are the most satisfying places to jump in because all you work is immensely useful. I often sucide now if I spawn in too rich of a village. It is boring.
This life was the most satisfying in a long while because my actions allowed the line to continue on for another 19 generations! This was a town that would have died at generation 6 if a typical player had played my life. But because of my efforts I kept a village going another 19 generations. I very proud of that. I was hoping that this note would catch the attention of the Eve or someone after me. I am really interested in hearing from the guy that build a road to the goose ponds. That was very smart.
None of that has anything to do with being born and immediately abandoned, or with too many babies arriving simultaneously and thereby overwhelming the mothers. Those are the two issues I'm complaining about, and are the reason I've suggested increasing the baby cooldown period during this period of newbie influx.
That is where you are totally wrong. I can't tell you how many times a mom abandoned me. But either i chased her down and she realized I was competent player, or I found another player to foster me. I have found that demonstrating you are competent player has gotten players to reverse the abandonment like 50% of the time. And when ever the reason for abandonment was baby overload I usually was the one picked to survive like 80% of the time.
A stressed player is looking for signals that you know what you are doing. This game is ruthless and parent will pick its survival over that of a bad player every time. I have abandoned many a baby when I was desperate. But when I found that berry bush and that little abandoned baby comes trotting up to me, I know I have a smart player and I work hard to get it to childhood And there is many a time when I was just slightly stressed (like rabbit hunting or wilderness gathering) and I walked away to test the baby. You send signals you are good player by being a good baby player and you will find your survival rate going up dramatically.
What you described is a "problem" has been in the game since day one. It is not a bug, it is a feature. Get better. Quit approaching babyhood as phase to be carried through.
A lot of the time this game is pretty brutal to your efforts. You work so hard and a newb, goof, or griefer that is your descendant will piss it all away. Or the baby roulette keeps giving you boys. But every so often your work pays off.
I found myself in such a situation today. I was the last girl in the village. At first I assumed I would just have babies while I worked. But when I did not have one for 7 minutes I realized I need to take being the last girl serious. I camped a perfect temp in the berries and focused on just having kids.
I had 6 sons before I had my last child a girl . . . who was pretty much a total newb. I never fed and guarded a girl so much. I taught her to farm and told her to stay in the berries. I knew the wild animals would kill her if she stepped away from them. I brought her soil and water, so she had something to do and could help. When she started having kids I had to interceded to keep her from letting her babies starve. Her first daughter was a moron that went looking for iron at age 13 (way too young). But her second daughter was a genius. She found perfect temp and all I needed to do keep that one alive was feed her like 2 or 3 berries and she made it. I even named her.
That little bit of difference on that girl is all it took. She was a good player who had 11 kids with 5 of them being smart girls in turn.
When I checked up on my descendants an hour later I was expected them to have died out as usual, I was shocked to see they had survived and still look like they are surviving.
It is amazing how much a big difference a little effort in that little girl made. I thought for sure I had failed when I died, but those spare two berries is all it took to give a good player a chance to turn things around.
Reading over the older forum threads, I'm getting the impression that prior to the Steam launch the spawning dynamics were different (and I don't just mean the change to the Eve spawn distances).
My experience as a new player from Steam has been frustrating. And I get that the game is supposed to be frustrating to a certain extent, but I don't think that what's happening now is what Jason intended.
My experience is that most of my spawns are either as a baby that gets abandoned by Eve, as one of four babies that Eve is trying to keep alive and so Eve and babies all die, as Eve who then gets four babies and so we all die, or MAYBE if I'm lucky I'll spawn into a town that's getting hammered with babies but is doing well enough that some of us can live to an old age.
I know that baby booms have always been a part of the game and that they put stress on a town deliberately, but what I've been seeing seems pretty devastating. Couple that with the fact that almost all the players are new and have no idea what they're doing, and you can pretty much guarantee that few camps will survive to become villages and that few villages will survive to become towns.
But what's worse is that this is a vicious cycle. Baby booms leave the experienced mothers with little time to teach new players. Failing camps and villages means fewer stable towns for new players to spawn into, where the pressures are light enough that they can learn basic skills that would help them in camps and villages.
Perhaps the mother-baby cooldown time should be lengthened. That would lighten the load on all players at every stage of the game, giving everyone more breathing room to explore and learn about the game. It would reduce the pressure on Eves and lead more of them to raise their kids instead of abandoning them. And it would lead to more Eves (because there would be fewer opportunities to be born to an existing mother), which is good, because being an Eve (without the pressure of babies) is where you learn the most important survival and camp-building skills. And paradoxically, it would also lead to more towns, because with the pressure lightened camps and villages will more often survive into the advanced stages.
Because, let me tell you - the most frustrating thing about this game is the sheer number of times that I sit there as an abandoned baby with nothing to do but wait to die. This is not fun. This is anti-fun, and I am hard pressed to imagine that this is part of Jason's vision.
The thing is CrazyEddie, being a baby is more than a just something inflicted on you. It is a skill set to master also. Too many people expect to be carried through babihood to the "real game". But even at this phase you need to be be active in your own survival. Like for example:
1) Know how to beg for food and where
2) Know where to find a good place to rest and mature
3) Know when to follow mom or stay put
4) Know when to abandon your mom and look for aid elsewhere
5) Know how to be calm so people can help you.
Being a baby is the most difficult job in the game and you can't goof off. That is why so many babies die, they get impatient and don't take their situation serious.
You are being too harsh. Look at those babies. Most died without saying a word. That screams baby sucides. And considering it was a 2nd gen civ, that is not unusual.
She might have had run of bad luck. She did get her last kid to 60.
I know it was still going, just cam from there on my third life. Dove murdered me as an elder though. Hopefully it survives
I think it is still going.

You should be proud Eve Bundy. You founded a town that is probably the largest I have ever seen since I started playing. Not as many buildings and roads as the ancient ones of March, but that graveyard went on forever. I played in it twice today. Very peaceful for such a large town too. I did not see a single murder both times.

Do not believe this demon worshipping bitch. The demons of corn, wheat, carrots, milkweed seek to consume the earth when they can not intercept the goddess's gift. These demons will eat you lives in toil like they eat the soil. They will make you toil in a literal hell of sheep shit and worms. They are false.
Listen to the goddess and you will have a life frolicking in a lush garden, honoring the goddess with pure sweet water. Pick the sixth berry and deny the demons their theft.
Jallah (PBUH) came to me last night and told me He will add another berry to the bush so that it will have 7. 7 is the number of Jallah (PBUH). The false gods have held sway over our minds for too long. You will find my words to be true, as He delivers His miracle. All will convert to Berrislam or face the wrath of Jallah (PBUH) and His disciples. Behead those who insult Berrislam.
The false prophet reveals himself with his wicked ways. He will feed you lives and your sweet berries to demons and lifestock. He will make you eat bitter carrots where once you had delicious fruit in your hand.
Would a loving God want that? Would a loving God demand violence? What is the difference between Earth an Hell if you spend both up your knees in sheep shit? Come join us the garden and taste the difference.
What is the Berry Religion? I’ve heard of it but don’t know what it is. Considering following it if I know what it is.
The Berry Goddess is the eternal lover of humanity. Her gift is ever lasting bushes. She will bless you peace, food eternal, many children if meerly do the following
1) You plant her sacred bushes and keep them waterred
2) Always pick the sixth berry so demons can not steal her gift for you.
3) Always pick the last berry so she may bless you again with more gifts.
She is a loving, eternal, and patient goddess. She is brother to the eternal Catcus God, but he is an indifferent good who moves without concern for mortals.
She is opposed by demons who wish to consume the world, steal her gifts for you, and trick you into doing so. These demons must eat because they will die otherwise.
All pools of water are her tears she sheds over your suffering in this mortal existence. It pleases her to ease you way.
The reason Jallah (PBUH) didn't give you the gift of children was because you weren't following Beriah Law correctly. One must never eat of the berry. The goddess is good. It sounds like your heathen town did not worship her right and that lead to famine and murderers. I see that all the time. When the Goddess's Garden is tended the settlement is prosperous.
Remember, the Goddess is offended by the numbers one and six. Do not tolerate her sacred bushes to have that many berries on them.
The thing that I don't understand is how some females keep feeding the newborn even though the population is getting too big for the food available and why they stay by the fire with the newborn not moving at all
I personally try to save every girl. You never know which one is the smart one. But when things get stressed I let the boys die or put less effort into them.

Sorry you starved while I was teaching you to hunt rabbits. I told you to stay and when I returned you were gone and I had to run to food. I saw you running the other direction out of the corner of my screen and could not stop. I found your grave later.
I hope you enjoyed learning to hunt rabbits though and it serves you well in the next life. I enjoyed it. There is rarely any time to teach anything in this game and I loved teaching you.
Love mom
That is surprising. And you can't count the people who died from starvation running from murders.
IronBear wrote:I spoke too soon! Apparently I had some female descendants who had not died. I am so proud! I hope they are keeping the commands of the Berry Goddess. Remember the Berry Goddess hates one and six. Do not disappoint her by allowing her sacred bushes to have six berries or one berry on them.
now this is a OHOL religion i can actually get behind
The Berry Goddess is the best. She and her brother the Catcus God are the only true eternal gods. All the others are demons who consume the world with their endless hunger. But you can have a relationship with the Berry Goddess unlike the Catcus God. The Catcus God is indifferent to world.
Just remember the numbers one and six are offensive to the goddess.
I don't know what happened. We quickly established farm with mother, there was always something to eat. Yet, all my family died in the wilderness

Been there.
What I see is that all the females were bad.
Statistically, it looks like every family only has a 10 to 20% of making it to the next generation.
The key to mastering this game is food management. I only know like half the recipes and have never smithed, but I easily make to elder because I know to find and grow food, and manage my food bar.
lol, I think its the name you chose.
The only person I know with that name is one of the worst people I know. tbh...
If I saw someone with that name in the game, I'd probably shoot her too.
What are you talking about? I don't pick the name Thy
I had a nice battle arena all set up in an advanced town, I assembled the tribe and everyone was excited..
One lady was too excited and started stabbing before we could set up brackets..
I think a battle maze would be more interesting.
Currently existing tools are very monotonous.
Knife ... bow ..
Except for this tool, I hope people will use a variety of tools to become a killer.
This will make the game more interesting.
I REALLY wonder why the axe can't kill people
