The food storage stuff is great

for the water, there should be freshwater springs but you cant drill from them and they deplete; they should be an early game investment. (no, water bottling companies go away)

and you should be able to construct one of these things to filter pond water to the magnitude of freshwater water and you can boil it to make it fully safe. If you dont have that, then you do the same thing but with a basket, which breaks over time. the stone filter should also decay but in the sense that you have to clear out and refill the inside; any stones used in the process should be re-usable but the sand and pebbles shouldn't be.

EDIT: tables, tables, tables. just build one and it acts like a normal tile, but raised (you can only put one item on it but you cant walk on it) until it has nothing on it. If it has nothing on it and you right click it from the left side of the table, you move the table one tile to the left. This could aid in preventing spoilage when food isnt in use.
