I have no idea either, but sounds like you ran out of memory while it was garbage collecting.  Need a better computer tongue

Edit:  Or actually, run the script twice in half the time range and add the results manually if you really gotta know?

#53 Re: Main Forum » PLAYER STATS + tools » 2019-03-14 22:46:37

Yeah it could be more user friendly.  Like it'd be nice if you could just run "node getoholplayerstats.js <insert hash>".  No idea whtat this file thing is xD

Also, I think I brought down the servers running the script? Running the data fetching script only got part of the data with many days missed in between, as well as a million connection refused, reconnects blah blah, and the servers were down for a while.  When I killed the process I could get born again, so I haven't tried using it again.  So i think the "does it work on windows" is a big no\, or maybe it's just my shitty internet connection.

Might be a coincidence, but I doubt it.

#54 Re: Main Forum » Mosquitoes... » 2019-03-14 20:19:49

I don't think it's because of "biome change".  Basically, there is intentional bleedover in how objects spawn in biomes.  If you're at the border of a swamp and badlands, e.g. occasionally iron will form in the swamp and ponds in the badlands.  Not a bug, it's designed that way.

Well, mosquitos are just objects like any other object.  So they probably just get this bleedover effect and stay in that biome.

Guys just because someone griefed a village doesn’t mean there young or stupid. It’s fact that most of you have griefed villages time to time. Anyways most villages that you guys play in are made by me. I have 4 active lineages with big cities going right now. I actually spend my time eveing so you guys can go in play in my villages and end them. Half of the time people like you that call me young are messing up my villages because they don’t know how to play.

So what if I kill 1 village but make 4 there’s a difference. So plz go and learn how to play the game then teach me. I don’t just grief villages everyday, when you know how to do everything in the game sometimes it’s to boring to not grief.

Eh, people place way too much importance on the Eve in creating a long lineage.  It actually has basically no importance at all.  If eve died almost immediately with a girl on a good spot and that girl was as experienced as the Eve, you can see how this would not change the town's survival significantly.  Multiply this by the crap shoot of experience with 10 offspring in gen 1-3.

Median lineage survival rate would denote an experienced player, but nobody brags about this xD

Creating many extra lineages by forcing yourself to eve actually weakens the overall amount of big cities paradoxically.  E.g., if 10 people created successful eve camps all at once, most likely all existing big cities will fail.

I can see why someone would resort to griefing out of boredom, though.  Lack of communication UI/controls make the game practically single player unless you're on discord.  Sadly, when you think about it, griefing is the most social activity in the game.  Not much else can be done together since anything useful requires more then 4 "tweets" or so hmm

Compromise: every time she would get banned from the forum she has to draw us more artwork.

#60 Re: Main Forum » Are We Having A Player Decline? » 2019-03-07 06:32:28

As said, while there is a player decline, it shouldn't be very noticeable unless something else were going on.  Way too many eves being born per player is always going to crash all of the towns, and the area ban is likely somehow a cause of this due to the next several eves in a spiral being within the area ban.  If decreasing the area ban distance is undesirable, than increasing the eve spiral distance is the other option.  Probably both would be best?

Surprised nobody gave the "solution" big_smile

type /die and enter in your speech text when you're born to a town you don't like.  As eve herself, just step on a wolf.

Additionally, the game has on and off hours. 4 AM PST +- 4 hours is pretty bad. If you play regularly during the game's dead hours, you will rarely see big cities I'm afraid.

#63 Re: Main Forum » Yum bonus tutorial - step by step guide to start with x10 yum chain » 2019-03-06 14:54:29

Perhaps we're not explaining our case correctly because it's too obvious when you enter a main server.  I didn't know you mainly play on off servers for a while into this argument.

The main issue is in a good sized city you will have around 20-30 people.  Lets say 8 of these are yumming, and most of them are doing non-food related activites, because most of the rest of the town is essentially leeching and the good players need to do a lot of upkeep.  Which means you've probably got 1 or 2 people for a gigantic town making variety food.

The bad strategy, the one you seem to be recommending as possible on a main server, is trying to provide all yum varieties either for yourself or a portion of these 8 yummers.  You will fail, and some yummers will get very high yum and some will get medium yum.  But all of them will be consuming some food that is inefficient.

The better strategy is to mass produce yum in order of their efficiency in the tiers list, only bumping down a tier when you've made dozens of a given yum food.  You will fail in making your way down the whole list, but because it's massed produced, all yummers will have a medium-high yum.  And because youre focusing on the higher tier foods only, they will additionally get better food. This also has the upshot that if some newbs are randomly eating food en masse, they will probably only destroy one or two food varieties, as opposed to, say, five or ten.

When we say "potatoes are bad" it's because you will never make it this far down the list with the mass production strategy.  If you have somehow gotten that far down,, chances are you should be doing something other than producing variety food because way too many people are focusing on that.

On a solo or near solo server, this is not the case:  You will have such a high average skill level that you can have a much higher portion of the town percentage focused on producing variety food and can succeed on making variety food for all players.

Well my personal hate of IP laws is just how people can abuse the length of them.  There's no sensible reason for copyright to last like 70 years or whatever the heck it is (edit: yeesh, the authors whole life plus 70 years), or trademark lasting literally forever if used forever.  You can of course, give up the rights later after you've made your mark and people generally know who to credit the original work.

The only odd thing I know about trademark is how it's not necessarily just the exact name that is protected.  For example, I remember some lawsuit where the holders of "tetris" won a suit against anyone naming a puzzle game ending in "-etris".  So even "Unofficial One Hour One Life" e.g. may not be allowed.  But probably would be.  Don't know for sure.

#65 Re: Main Forum » Open Letter to the Mobile Developers » 2019-03-05 19:00:02

I still think the main issue here was just the identical name in the beginning.  That doesn't seem like it was a wise choice for either party to have allowed it to happen, and I do think relinquishing trademark was the issue here.  Sure trademark isn't going to solve that heinz issue you posted, but it's not like it's meant to solve world peace, just a some specific issues of confusion.  You'd have to convince me of a case where it caused a problem rather than not solving some problems.  RyanB also gave some scenarios that are worth pondering earlier, so I'm not even sure a public domain for the copyright is that great.

#66 Re: Main Forum » The height of fashion. » 2019-03-05 07:27:54

I once got my family about 10 each of wolf and mouflon hides.  Anyone entering that town would thik "Damn I better not mess with these guys"

#67 Re: Main Forum » Open Letter to the Mobile Developers » 2019-03-05 03:12:33

Eh, at this point I don't see any point in the thread:  If the takedown succeeds, they're going to sue, and then anything in the thread's just going to be used against jason.  Kinda past the friendly convincing point right now hmm  Like I'd have things to say about the wording on that takedown notice, but that's not gonna help lol, so why let people comment at this point.

#68 Re: Main Forum » Berry Bushes Need Limited Lifespans » 2019-03-05 03:05:21

Eh, it would just make the game harder.  People do things mostly out of ignorance rather than optimality.  For instance, buildings are proven definitely not worthwhile, but that hasn't stopped people from building them.  Milk is overwhelmingly better than stew, but people make stew. Etc Etc.  People would still just make infinite gooseberry fields, but they would have to keep remaking them.

#69 Re: Main Forum » New clothing vs hunger? » 2019-03-04 20:38:15

Finally did a deeper dive and, well, insulation is weird.

If you have 100% insulation you actually get infinite heat.  I tried giving myself 100% clothes insulation as a test and heated up as an oven.

Basically, your body is a thermal reactor that produces 0.25 heat every update.  And your clothes get better at trapping this heat.  It stabilizes at a certain point based on your environment.  But as it gets closer and closer to 100% it actually reaches infinite, not perfect temperature.  And you burn up and die big_smile  The breaking point where overpass perfect temperature is something like 95% insulation, and so far we can only reach 93.5% or so.

On the flip side, at lower insulations, you don't trap much heat at all, and currently don't gain much of anything.

Alright, I've got the logic of the equation.  Just need to work on the specifics:

Equilibrium temperature (ignoring airR and snowballs) is when:

0.25 = -(environment - equilibriumTemp) * (1 - clothingR)
-0.25/(1 - clothingR) = environment - equilibriumTemp
-0.25/(1 - clothingR) - environment = -equilibriumTemp

equilibriumTemp = environment + 0.25/(1 - clothingR)

Divide by 10 to get scaled for [0-1].  And as seend, when clothingR approaches 1, this becomes infinite.
Full current game clothing (0.94R) yields ~0.4 extra temperature from naked, a mouflon hide (0.2) yields a pathetic 0.031 extra temperature

Now I just need to log out the correct value for grassland environment and plug it in here, which I am probably too lazy to do since we already have the bonus temperature for clothing as simply:

0.25/(1 - R) , divided by 10 for the [0-1] scale

Edit: actually, it would be the amount better than naked, which would be 0.25/(1-R) - 0.25

Which gives truly, ridiculously pathetic amounts for low levels of clothing.  0.0061 for mouflon hide.  Ouch!

#70 Re: Main Forum » Current state of fertility variables. » 2019-03-04 18:24:18

Well, there is sort of a base chance:  the chance drops to 0 at worst temperature + no yum.  But unless you're on a glacier, naked, or on a jungle with fever, you're not at the worst temp.

#71 Re: Main Forum » New clothing vs hunger? » 2019-03-04 17:04:31

Well, the main takeaway I got from this testing, is that if clothing is non-linear, then it's an all or nothing affair:  like if I saw a seal I wouldn't skip clubbing it, but I can always do it later.  So there'd really be two eve strategies:  Full on rabbit + sealskin coat nomading:  hoover up all of the milkweed in an area for thread, tools, and snares and walk far away fully clothed with one daughter.  Or just mostly ignoring clothing.

The rabbit hunting is iffy because I've done it before and you will not fully cloth yourself and your daughter until you're post 40, which means it's all on your daughter, but the gains seem to be worth it given the huge effects a full set have.

#72 Re: Main Forum » Open Letter to the Mobile Developers » 2019-03-04 16:18:37

As said, these sorts of things can be irreversible.  Trust me, I've worked in this sort of setting and something as stupid as changing the sprites in a game's multiplayer lobby can cause massive irreversible damage.  I'd be really hesitant to ever touch a name.  And the first part of that quote left out is important wink

#73 Re: Main Forum » The hand of VOG caught on stream » 2019-03-04 16:07:28

Well, as said, you change vogModOn.ini to 1, press shift V in game, shift I and a menu comes up to spawn things.  It's still Vog Mode day for short while until I turn it back off.

#74 Re: Main Forum » Open Letter to the Mobile Developers » 2019-03-04 16:00:02

I think a lot of the clash here is just Jason understimating how much damage even any name change at all could cause to a game's sales, let alone having an ugly change like unofficial in it, with the damage likely being irreversible.  For instance, an equally valid solution to misunderstandings would just be to have Jason change his own game's name: if it's not a big deal, why not?  Obviously not gonna happen, cause it IS a huge deal!

If the main damage was mostly caused through video, I don't see why it can't be rectified through video.  Can't you just be proactive about mentioning jason, maybe get on some chinese youtubers or whatever and clear the air?

#75 Re: Main Forum » New clothing vs hunger? » 2019-03-04 15:52:21

Well, the in code calculations for temperature are extremely convoluted: there's lots of random stuff like body heat giving off bonus heat in cold biomes and other random stuff inserted.  If the initial graph was made by examining code rather than double checked with in game data, I wouldn't be surprised if it was incorrect to begin with.

This is also one thing that can't really be tested with OCS, though, because I bumped the minimum hunger.  The temperature will show correctly, the hunger does not, though.

As for the backpack thing being a bug, I don't think it is, it's just the weird clothing effects: if you take off any clothing at a full or near full set, temperature craters.  It seems to be a non-linear equation somehow.
