#78 Re: Main Forum » Average/maximum number of children? » 2018-07-10 07:13:15

You can derive the stats from the publicly available data yourself if you're keen on doing that.

#79 Re: Main Forum » Average/maximum number of children? » 2018-07-10 06:33:41

If I recall correctly I had 14 kids way back when (before names). 12 girls and 2 boys, just after the server restart (12 of my children survived to adulthood!). I wouldn't be too surprised if someone has had 15 kids, but I think I might be the top (or tied top). My average I believe is probably around 5, but I have had 10+ kids many times.

Doesn't look like that from lineage.  You've starved 3 daughters and 2 sons.  Your mother did the same to your 3 sis ad 1 bro.

How single guy with a bow can kill all people?  Especially those with knifes.  It looks like this town was already dying.  He just opportunistically finished it off.  Complaining that there are no fertile women, when your familiy is starving kids left, right and center is kind of hypocritical.

You're infuriating... Children commit suicide and there's nothing you can do to save them.

Instead of OP being "kind of hypocritical", you're kind of silly.

Never EVER grow carrots before sheep. They give the same or less (depending if you alternate between berry then bowl of gooseberry) per tilled row.

Wrong. Typically I'd agree, but this is a sub-optimal strat since you're not considering yum-factor. I've done the maths and yum-factor can make up 50-75% (depending on how well you've optimised temp) of your caloric intake if you know what you're doing and you're in the sheep/pie phase. This means good players only need 80-200 calories instead of the previous 150-400.

You can easily get 4+ yum factor in a pre-sheep civ, so carrots are optimal early game in most circumstances so long as people are making use of the yum-factor.

NB. I'm not advocating carrots as a sole food source. They are very valuable in maximising yum-factor.

It's already there at the same place as where you learn to name yourself as Eve.

If Eves spawned in pairs, they would just go in different direction (not necessarily a problem). If they stayed together you'll just deplete the natural foods double as fast and collapse the society before anything gets done. You can't support 2 bloodlines for very long anyway given the necessary population.

#86 Re: Main Forum » Revisting the twins idea » 2018-07-04 14:26:15

I really like the idea of the broken heart, but only if one of the twins is murdered. This way we can easily deal with teaming griefers, but with less restrictions for the average player. This is especially important if someone is teaching their friend, and the "noob" friend dies, but wants to take a break while the other wants to stay. If the other wants to quit, then that's effectively the same as "broken heart" but not mechanically forced.

As for the twinning numbers, there doesn't necessarily have to be a hardcoded maximum. The "market" would adjust itself. It's also unlikely that grave spawn griefing would happen more than a few times.  If there was a max, I personally think 3, but 4 could work. I believe >50% of people wouldn't keep even groups of 3.

#87 Re: Main Forum » Can sustainability be added to the tutorial? » 2018-07-04 14:09:43

The 288 gen run had two bears - Shrek and Fiona. They were relatively tame. The question is, what do you want the tamed animals to do? Shrek and Fiona just sat there looking pretty, we didn't expect them to do any tricks.

In the Discord we suggested several ways to make rabbit trapping more noob proof. Unfortunately OP, your child's mistake has cost your civ tens to hundreds of rabbits in the long term.

#89 Re: Main Forum » Inappropriate texts and names » 2018-07-02 09:59:17

I never got to see that sign, but I've seen signs made that were actually intended to offend. If you think something is unacceptable you can simply kill the author, or take it down. It's really not difficult.

#90 Re: Main Forum » We need account permabans » 2018-07-02 09:44:47

I think we can all agree Sc0rp should take up knitting. This is a non-issue that already has the same solution we have in real life. Don't let the crybabies win. So say we all.

Joriom 12 on Discord coined the name "Desmond". I'm glad it stuck.

#92 Re: Main Forum » We need account permabans » 2018-07-02 03:46:50

I've only encountered this behaviour a handful of times in my entire experience on the game. If someone is playing the game in a way you don't like, you have the option of killing them. If you don't know the location of a weapon you're doing it wrong.

#93 Re: Main Forum » We need account permabans » 2018-07-01 17:52:54

Grow a pair. How is someone only capable of communicating with a handful of letters able to offend you... If it was legitimately a bother, you should have just stabbed him, it's not hard...

#94 Re: Main Forum » Give birth to the killer of your people » 2018-06-24 15:44:38

Let's be honest, the lineage ban has barely any impact on effectual griefers, and really only hurts the griefers that don't really know enough about the game to do anything serious to hurt our civs.

Actually, some of the most meaningful contributions I've personally made (which on at least one occasion, probably saved the township's generation) was done by doing my work far from town and bringing back the needed supplies and crafts.   Admittedly this strategy hasn't worked every time, and yes, being a lone wanderer is nearly as pointless as declaring monarchs in game, but going full-on hillbilly worked because going nomad spared the limited resources of society, while still filling the needs of the group; thus demonstrating once again that civilizations are over-rated and generally self-defeating.

I'd call that foraging rather than being nomadic. Foraging is one of the most important roles in society, especially early on. I agree that being a nomad and everyone moving in different directions and raising children and telling them to go off is viable, but I'd much rather work towards developing a town and culture.

I should have used the word dynasty, instead of civilisation/civ in my previous post.

Additionally, I've noticed many players complain about over-population, and just like real life; that's only a legitimate problem when people are using more resources then they produce.

Sure you can survive longer by yourself, but that's completely irrelevant. This game is about civilisations, and I know you can't keep a civilisation going longer by being nomadic than by settling down (I'd know, since I've been part of all the top 3 longest lasting civs).

There's a hard and soft cap to overpopulation, and yes, both are based on how hard players want to work, but you can be pretty accurate by just going off the average player contribution. This is limited primarily by the water in an area, but also in the long term by the amount of iron.
