a multiplayer game of parenting and civilization building

I hear that abandoned towns will turn back to nature for a bit but stone walls will remain.
This is confirmed now? I suggested it a few days ago, maybe i missed something?
Will take a while for people to understand that spamming /die will NOT make you eve anymore
Maybe not remove, but hide? Like a spoiler where you can extend it to see how many SID babies there were
Sounds great. This way, you actually need an army to raid a village instead of 2 people with swords, and even small villages have a way to defend themselves
Doesnt really fit in with the whole parenting and building theme of the game, but neither did warswords so i dunno
I feel like Stone structures shouldnt decay. Would be so cool to stumble across overgrown cities.
They could get replaced with stuff, if someone build a wall where once was a tree, the tree could replace the wall, to make it look even more overgrown.
Probably hard to programm that though

It should be time. Stones, branches, clay, whatever you use for your house, arent hard to find IRL.
But it takes alot of work refining those resources before you can build a house out of them. Now, a craft timer was the first thing to come to mind, but that just sounds horrible for OHOL.
What about, instead, it takes more steps to build walls. Like green beans.
You dont just harvest them and put them into a crock pot.
YOu wait for them to dry, harvest them, clean them, soak them, etc.
It makes the whole process slower, but not boring.
Making stew would be boring if you just yoink 3 things off a bush and throw them in together, Maybe we should take this concept and apply it to other things that are "too easy" atm, instead of adding more resources needed to do themI think it would be even worse that as a productive player, that knows how to build, you will have even more trouble completing it. The good ones would just stop building all together because it takes way too much time to complete.
If things change with building, would you rather have to go look for more and rare resources or do this?
Only if buildings would be actually worth it ofc

i feel like for pine walls, the things thats annoying to get should be the pine needles, not the rope. Maybe they need just one rope for the net thingy and then 3 batches of pine needles need to be added. People would actually go out and look for pine needles, right now, they are just useless
Here was a successful form of my standard raid game.
I was born in a multiethnic village. Three ethnicities, a huge property, plenty of steel tech, but not newcomen tech yet -- at least not the roller (so no swords).
I was a triplet. Some weirdness was going on inside involving property ownership and resources. There was low food.
We slipped out with some carts of initial supplies and headed north unil we stumbled upon an abandoned gen 2 base with a solid farm. We were three girls, so we started popping out babies and making stew.
I went on a duo mission with one of my twins. We went back to the huge property and took all their steel, their file, and some tools etc. We return to begin phase two.
At this point, we have two boys. Warrior and raider. I even managed to get my younger sister to join our effort. We got some rabbits for a pack and stumbled upon a pack in the wild. After some smithing, we had about 6 knives and two bows between us five.
We head for our raid. It's been about half an hour since we set up. We stop and grab snowballs on the way.
We find the property gate open, as it often was.
We enter, I snowball their adults, and we start stabbing. We kill maybe 7 or 8 people all together, and claim the land as solely ours, leaving only those related to us alive... but not all of them.
Gottem.

This just sounds like so much unnecessary griefing and ruining the game for others.
Shame it isnt really considered griefing by todays standarts anymore
My favorite one recently:
I was only but a little girl when my town was sacked by two raiders. When I realized what was going on I booked it outside of town and hid behind a tree near a bush. For years I'd just peak out to grab a berry and quickly hide again, I was like Anne Frank lol.
So after a while I took a chance and slowly snuck closer to what used to be my home. The raiders were gone, they killed everyone but only took a few things.I started a fire and got up a yum bonus, I just hit 20 years of age so I was ready to repopulate. Three girls and one boy later, my town finally had some life in it again. I told my children the story of how their ancestors were brutally murdered by raiders, and to be wary of any outsiders. To kill them on sight. One of my boys swore revenge and took off in the direction the raiders were coming from once he was of age to wield a sword.
I died of old age surrounded by my grandchildren in the midst of a town bumbling with life yet again. I couldn't believe that I actually managed to not just survive the raid, but also repopulate and keep the family name alive.
I can't remember the name of the family anymore, It did die later that day, but I sure did everything I could to keep it going a few more gens.
Was your son successful in his quest?
What about this: If an eve comes into a village she can make a peace offering, which makes her family unable to use swords on the other family. if x percent of her family later agree to undo that agreement, there is a warning of some sorts for the other family and a timer ( 1 minute ?)
This way, their family is still "weaker" than the other, since they could still use swords on them, without making them slaves
Wouldnt we need some kind of minimap for this? Or a craftable map at least.
Maybe a bit like maps work in minecraft?
Jason confirmed he is working on it, but keep in mind he is drawing them all by hand so it takes time
Played some lifes today that sadly included many griefers, and it didnt feel weird to use the new kill mechanic at all.
Alot of people were confused about why they couldnt stab people though, so maybe we need a little thingy that pops up for a few seconds when you pick up a weapon to tell them?
But i guess the news are gonna spread anyway, so dont know if thats necessary
Is killing sheep considered killing as well? Or just actually killing people
I like it! But the problems brought up here ( guaranteed yum for developed villages and therefore more babies )should be adressed before release
Ya'll keep on asking for a leveling up system for some kinds of crafting what if you can't place a wall until you've carted 5 stones?
So you would have to go get your own stones before you build, before you can use the 5 piles ready to use that your grandmother got home before she died?
This would feel kinda weird
Maybe some blueprint that you can use to mark tiles ( maybe they'd be slightly blue ) and it vanishes after one minute
Wouldnt this just make specialization harder for no reason and slow down process?
I think a big deterrent for buildings is that they're materially expensive. It costs a big stone rock for each wall and a log for each floor. You've got to have a really good reason if you want people to make that investment. It's also important to consider that people have to be outside for activities like farming.
If you want people to do it despite it being a big investment, I would suggest that you have certain objects deteriorate conditionally based on whether they are in a building or not.
People DID build alot of houses right after the temperature update. The cost wasnt the main problem, it was the locking of doors, the walls taking up space, and the fact that bad buildings are hard to remove
im worried hat we get no defence then
maybe if you change direction, it should cancel their preload attack, like if you turn back they time out in 5 sec
Or make the "charge" only last for 5 seconds or so, this way, people cant just rightlick you and then go afk
Thats the goal, but noone has come up with any way to archieve it. Relying on your mom for a sixth of your life doesnt sound like alot of fun, for neither kids nor mom
Although this change is nice for those who are bad at targeting....
This is a horrible change for people who have bad connection and can’t help it.
I’ve had people stab me from 7 tiles away while being chased. I am a constant target for griefers because on their screen I am seen as idle when I’m really running around farming.
This is just going to make me avoid people with an angry face like the plague.
I have no idea how that stuff could be taken into account with ANY change to the system though
The fence material does decay, jason patched that yesterday i believe
