I play the game for a year now and for sure the griefers has waay less power than before.
Of course there are guys like ollj who griefes giving the excuse it will actually help the game, like chopping all trees to make them hungrywork, killing all geese to make them not the only source of feathers, luring bears to make the caves non-respawnable, blocking things with waystones and making hog traps so Jason can fix whatever they want.
It’s like shot a bunch of people in real life, so the police will ban the guns, or put fire on the Amazon Rain Forest so people will fight harder against it. Makes a lot of sense (Nop.)
We can’t get rid of griefers like them. But before it was worse. They could shot people immediately without the GASP thing, standing behind a tree; lock things using instantly unremovable objects, without the need of waiting 10 hours to become unremovable; literally kill 10+ people in five minutes using 2 war swords; chop all nearby trees so we couldn’t make fire; Luring dozens of bears, since the bear caves spawned a bear every 10 hours; Killed all geese nearby, so making an arrow was extremely hard; whatnot.
Nowadays all of those are fixed, the griefers have to be more and more creative to actually grief, like that crazy hog trap, compared to 1 year ago, we are catching griefers more often. I’m not working this week, so I played a lot, I saw griefers in 1/5 of my lives and 90% of them were caught and cursed. I could work on roads for hours without been interrupted by griefers, they usually wander around big towns and even then if two people aim the griefer, they will run like The Flash and catch him, like I did twice.
The game is improving a lot and becoming less griefable. If the griefer was smart before, we could never catch them, like Toxic, a player who killed lineages using a knife and killing people who were alone (since there wasn’t the GASP thing, and we didn’t even need to press shift, a simple left click was enough to stab someone pre-rift), I hope next year it will be even harder to grief, for sure Jason either will make the waystones non-blocking or removable with shovel while not ancient, like stone walls with mining pick.
We get more rubber now, that’s for sure, so it get a big buff. Did it happen with oil too? I think we get 4x as muscu rubber than before from the same materials, it should happen with oil since it’s way harder now or at least make it easier to get, using less pipes and whatnot.
I would like to see this and even other illnesses such as diabetes, overweight, malnutrition, cancer, flu, albinism, fever and whatnot. Some of them we born with, some of them we contracts. Some of them are neutral, some of them are bad.
As you suggested, it would be good if we could heal it somehow, it would create a lot of new jobs.
To avoid sudden infant death, they could reward the players who survive until old age (like that fitness points), so we gain benefits next life like running slightly faster, having more tool slots, foods bars and whatnot. And punish who dies with a illness, the younger the person is, the bigger the punishment ( so next life you have less tool slots, food bars, run slightly slower...), Even without this, I think people would play having an illness, to see how it’s like and of course we would be different, people might help us more and spoil us as an kid, giving good equipments.
I think it’s a very cool idea, although very complex to do, requires a lot of work and Jason may have more important things on his list. Anyway your idea is very cool. I can imagine myself working at a lab producing insulin, cough syrup and etc. xD
It makes sense, but it also has its positive sides.
Today I was in the rail town, I travelled west and a Baron with an actual crown was making a big road, I started helping and did it until he died, a girl was helping us too, when he died he followed me and gave me the crown, me and the girl kept working until she got a baby, she followed me and ran back to rail town, years later another woman passed by me, saw me working and followed me.
When I was fifty five I knew I couldn’t finish the road, so I used the order and said something like “Who wants to be heir help me west road”, I went to to the town and came back and quickly a group of people went there to help me, they were working together very quickly I and chose a boy name Judge to be the heir. Next life I was born there again and went to check when I was five and the road was almost finished and I was his follower already because my mother was a daughter of the girl who were helping me and the old man, so all their descendants auto follow.
If well used, we can make things happen very quickly using the order system, principally when a woman follows you, that means her children, grandchildren... will follow you and follow your heir when you choose one.
It's so cute that you guys still think Jason couldn't have figured out how to get rid of griefers by now. Donkeytown is a fun vacation, barely a slap on the wrist. Ohol is basically a game about creation vs entropy, players take part in both processes
That’s kinda like real life. I mean, Hitler and those people who are jailed or even on dark forums on the deep web are/were real life griefers and we had/have several ones.
I miss:
- that fortress feeling, we were in a walled kingdom with guards and whatnot, people had to drop their weapons in order to get inside. We had very beautiful towns, with huge buildings, walls made of wood and stone.
- Being more closer to your family, we cared more about each other and we were wandering the world and found a cousin, we always cheered up. We stopped killing each other and had a common enemy to fight, so we were working together and helping each other.
- New jobs such as guards, wallkeepers, scouters and whatnot.
What I don’t miss:
- Exploits. People were being born in another family only to grief and make the people born in their actual family. People being born only to steal stuff to their families, I saw it several times, my kids were born, they grew up, took a horse, stole what they could and bailed. Once I followed my daughter with a horse, she ran to the southern limit, a guy give her gate permission and she got in, there were dozens of horses inside the fences.
- Crazy griefing. Since permanently locking buildings to chopping all juniper trees.
Edit:
I also don’t miss the massive famines we had. The apocalypses and the mega baby boom when one mother had 20 baby s in five minutes.
Dude, this trap killed a lot. The first time I saw it, my mother was bitten by a hog but we weren’t at a swamp, I was like “WTF?”, ran back and forth looking for it, I was sure it was a bug until it got me and I realized it was behind a tree. Next life I told that to a guy and we two went to kill the boar, we weren’t black, so it was hard to reach the hog without dropping the bow and we couldn’t remove or chop the tree because they were in a desert, both of us ended up dead. I quit. Hours later I came back, there were a huuuge vertical line of waystones and the only way possible to reach the other side was walking through the gap where the boar was, the road was broken to avoid people being yeeted to the boar, even though when we click on the other side of the waystone line, the game automatically makes you walk past the gap and it actually killed my kid who was aware of the boar.
I’m using the hetuw mod, so I stopped clicking and only used WASD when on roads, so my character stops immediately when there is a dangerous tile in front of me. I used this to actually kill the boar. Years later I saw a guy putting a bowl of kernels next to the trap and he cut the boar removing the meat and bones from there, I suspected and chased him with my bow, he ran a lot. I camped there waiting for him, but he came with two other guys (the guys were black and he was ginger) I think they were using discord, since ginger and black can’t communicate properly. He came with a bow and arrow and I ran to a big desert when he aimed me, but I was very old and died there. Next life I was born more than 1000 tiles away but went there to check and there was the boar again, I thought about killing it but I decided to go back and work instead, I spent more than 2 hours dealing with it and I was kinda pissed off.
My theory is that they are a group of grievers on discord, maintaining the trap. There are good ways to stop them. Cursing, being born as a black character and cutting the tree, breaking all the road so people won’t go there (although I feel sorry for who built the road, it takes hours, and also they can make the trap on another road so we would end up breaking all the roads). They can also put a wall corner with black dye to replace the tree, but any wall corner gives more visibility than a maple tree, so people might see the boar before and stop running towards it.
That’s crazy, those guys might have killed dozen of people, principally new players. And once the trap is done, they keep griefing and killing even without being online.
Really? 19 Grievers? Making bows?
That is so frustrating, that is so sad, I can't curse all of them and even if I could, I would be massively area banned and sent to donkey town. I hope Jason change that curse system, to send people to donkey town after eight curses plus area ban.
It's time to stop playing for some time again, it's really frustrating to play among too many trolls, it's not funny at all, I only feel frustration, anger and sadness when I play with that kind of people. The worst part is that they come here on forums to hire new trolls and destroy even more the players' experience.
It's sad because I really love the game OHOL, but nowadays I'm feeling more sad than happy playing the game, not because of the game itself but some players that waste their times to troll us with no punishment at all. I came back this week after stop playing due to grievers, now it's time to chill a little bit more.
Tree Farmers are also a good idea.
When towns reach the diesel engine era, people need a lot of kidlings, having some trees nearby always helps. Ten trees generate Ten branches per hour, and about 150 branches a day, which helps a lot. But people can farm much more, it's possible to farm 20, even 30 trees before reaching 30 years old.
It's good to farm them near borders of the town, within fences, but it can't be where people work, cuz it will make the work harder. Also, they can't lean on fences, since it will make impossible fix them from inside, they can't be very near north fences as well, since they hide fences and people forget to fix it.
Maple trees are good for branches.
Pines are good for firewood since they don't cost hunger when chopped.
It's very nice to have at least five rubber trees too, it will make the rubber makers work a lot easier.
If you are making a recreational park, why don't use trees? They are beautiful and help the village a lot, generating resources every hour even after the farmer death.
If you farm 30 maples, after some hours people will start to make permanent fences for sheep.
Farming them is very easier, you just need to use a shear on a tree and you will get its sapling, then put it on a deep tiled soil and water it, after 30 minutes it will need more water, so if you farmed them before 30yo you can water them twice. After the second water, they will be a grown tree in one hour. Even when griefers chop them down to frustrate the farmer, they still will generate firewood and butt log what is very useful anyway, so it is always a good deal, even when griefers try to grief them.
Things I'd still like to see for that town:
- I'd like steam engines (charcoal fuel) on most of the springs.
- I'd like people farming branches, maybe some nice parks with wood, stone, brick or concrete paths working their way through them, so harvesting and gathering branches for kindling is convenient.
- Any project you'd love to work on.
Haha, one of your wishes was fulfilled, because I farmed more than 100 trees north, there are infinite branches there. I made them in a nice shape, today I saw a guy making a Tarr Monument among the trees, he put a sign written Tarr, put some wooden and stone floors. Tonight I'll play a little bit more and I'll try to make a road connecting the tree farm and the town. It's a really nice town, so spacious.
I was your daughter, Cleo Morsell.
You told me that all your kids named Cleo had a good life.
I took a white dress on a dead body and you "borrowed" it for your wedding.
You and June were good people, weren't doing any harm to town, I really liked my lesbian mothers.
I spent my life farming trees north, that town was soooo spacious, but the northern area was empty, so I decided to farm trees there, I farmed more than 100, I had to make a well and when that well dried out, I went to town to get a deep well kit, but when I arrived there, it was a blood bath, my siblings were bleeding, people stabbing each other... Someone stabbed June, I managed to heal her once, but then she got stabbed again, I couldn't find healing supplies, so I decided to kill and curse the murder but ended up stabbing the wrong person. After some minutes things chilled down, all griefers were dead, my siblings were dead as well, but You, June and Me survived, people cleaned up things and people got back to work, some years later more blood bath happened, they killed my daughter, but I didn't know what was happening, so I went north again and avoided stabbing the wrong person again.
At least we lived till sixty and I could finish my tree farm north, today I went there and expanded it even more.
edit:
Before you died, I went with my daughter outside (the same daughter who was killed later on), I was getting eggs for her, she called me she was "The Goose Bitch" and it's nice to have some geese for a yum bonus. I met you there, in the mountains, I had a cart full of eggs and you were looking for alum. I got you some alum, but when we arrived in town, you were already dead, I couldn't even find your and June's body to bury in the tree park north, but at least someone used the alum to dye clothes.
I also loved it.
In my case, I really like farming trees and it's a job that almost no one does, but it was impossible before since griefers always chopped them down immediately, mainly when I farm them in beautiful shapes, making it possible to have a cow pen made of trees and whatnot. But now, the trees last longer, generate 20-30 branches per hour for 2, 3 days and I really enjoy it. I played about 5 hours this week and farmed more than 100 trees, today I logged in and almost all of them are intact, some are chopped but not due to griefing, but due to butt logs and it's okay.
Also, that new area ban system is amazing, every time I see someone griefing (chopping good trees, locking doors, killing the family and whatsoever) I simply curse them and they get banned for 48 hours, so everything is lasting longer and longer.
So eve spiral went away, and he stopped playing. Eve spiral comes back, he starts to play again.
Hmm yes. I see what you mean. Doesn't make any sense.
Haha probably, I think changing the Eve spiral algorithm made the game unplayable for him, now the spiral is infinite and Eves spawn far and far away, so then game is playable again and he decided to go back.
I thought he was upset because of the rift, but he was upset because of removing infinite Eve spiral.
We haven't had an infinitely growing Eve spiral in a lot longer than a month or two.
Yeah, but he said months ago, it's at least 2 months, but it's probably more. Infinitely Eve spiral ended in may, 3 months ago, approximately when he stopped playing.

Can we see behind trees using hetuw mod? I use this mod and didn’t know about that, which key do we have to press?
X-ray hold x. RTFM.
doesn't work lol
Edit: I was using an outdated version, I updated it and now I can use the "X-Ray" function, ty. :F

We haven't had exactly this setup for quite a long time. There was a time in the past when the game worked this way.Thank you. I just logged in and played for the first time in months because of this rollback.
<3
First time in months? But the rift was added about 20 days ago, if you stopped playing months ago (at least 2), the game was exactly how it is now.
So you stopped playing months ago, he added new content 20 days ago that you haven’t seen, he rolled it back, now you come back because the game is exactly how it was when you stopped playing?
Doesn’t make sense at all.
Particulary, I'd rather the rift.
As you said, people worked faster and harder.
Also, they were more connected to their families, since others were enemies.
And, the certainty that our work will last longer, is a great incentive. For instance, if I make cow pen or a cool builing (like pein's fortress), I know it will last for days, people you use it a lot (before rift, towns hardly last one day), so I will feel more motivated to make good stuff. And I've seen it a lot in rift, people were working really hard.
The only problem is griefing. Locking buildings, killing all geese, waking all bears and chopping all junipers. Without them, the rift will be a good place.
praise the bears, the goose genocide and even the slightly organized greedy discordDome, the rift is finally gone.
we can fix some simple old bugs now: https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewt … 364#p71364
It doesn’t make sense, the game is only bad because of bears and discord griefers.
Without them, the rift would be nice, without griefing.
A better solution would be perms banning those griefers, then the rift would be heaven.
I checked server 1 and the rift there is wonderful, without bears nor blocked buildings, mouflons alive, all junipers okay.
The problem isn’t the rift, it’s really good, towns were developing a lot and players were learning high tech stuff, but griefers kept ruining our experience.
Just perna ban ollj and those griefers who came here in the forum laugh at us after griefing and the game will be gutti.
Also, to ban zoom out the game would change drastically.
The server renders an area much bigger than your seeable area. It happens because when you walk, the game take some time (depending on your internet) to render the next area, but since your seeable area is smaller than the rendered area, the game can take some seconds to render the next area, since the things you see when you walk were already rendered before.
If the game limits the rendered area to the seeable area, you wouldn’t be able to run unless your internet is extremely fast, due the player speed is higher than the render speed, don’t even think about horses or cars. Also, if you complain about teleporting people, babies turning in adults in seconds, swords materializing in players hand, it would happen much more frequently since the game only render the player when they enter in your seeable area (before, the game rendered players when they enter rendered area, zoom out area).
Also, since you can’t walk quickly because you have to wait the game rendering the area each second. People with faster internet would have a huge advantage, since they can walk much faster than you. They could kill you without you noticing, because the game didn’t rendered them in time.
So banning zoom out, requires a huge work and even with this huge work the game would be more laggy and glitchy.
It’s actually easy to solve those problems, I don’t have 16 years of programming, I have 3, but I’m almost sure those changes are easy since he already has the functions ready:
- Respawnable animals/trees.
- All trees cost hunger to chop down.
- Bear meat, bear clothing. If there was a bear coat and meat, I bet people would hunt all of them to get those exotic items.
About the killing, it’s really easier to kill when you are using zoom out, principally when the another person isn’t using.
But also, it’s easier to detect griefers and avoid being murdered while using it. For instance, yesterday, an Eve on a horse, had four sword on her horse-cart, I was using zoom-out, so I could see her. I opened the gate and hid behind a tree, when she entered I insta stab her, she run to try to hide her body behind a tree, but I could easily find the corpse.
The video game analogy is true. I live in Brazil, and two teenagers entered in a school, in Suzano, the had bows, guns, axes, Molotov cocktails, then they killed a lot of kids and the staff. After some days, politicians tried to ban violent games in Brazil, because police went in the killer’s house and they used to play CS:GO, Fortnite, MINECRAFT (They even showed scenes of kids playing Minecraft killing each other with axes and bows).
So I agree with @DrankDark, killers playing violent games doesn’t mean they are the only one who play, ordinary people also do.
A solution would be allowing players to zoom in/out without mod, but a smaller zoom.
I, particularly, enjoy much more using some levels of zoom. Yesterday for example, I wanted to make a cow pen, but there were no goose to make arrows. I spent forty years using zoom out to find a loose domestic bison, I was happy I could finish it before I die and taught my granddaughter how to get milk. For me, it would be impossible without zoom out. When they chop almost all junipers, I spent more than 30 years with zoom out to find a single one and get sapplings, would be impossible without zoom out.
Griefers can still grief without zoom out, principally those who use discord, reverse the griefing would be much harder though. I think we should be free to choose if we want it or not, and we can fight griefers making different changes.
I have tried to do it once, I didn't even have a sword, but players are so scared of griefers that the Eve stole my horse and fled.
haha cool! Sad but true.
Today I was playing in Deatley town, It was a nice town. I was farming some milkweed for slot boxes and a boy was farming trees, we needed a lot of soil, but there weren't hoes and shovels, so I decided to make some. When I went to the smithering area, there were about seven people doing "music", they were spamming items on floor, whitling. It was so annoyng, but ok, I could stand that, untill they took all smithering stuff to make song, they took the charcoal, bellows and steels, I literally begged them to stop, I couldn't even threat them, there were so much people doing that, they didn't let us work, took all pies. I curse a woman who was taking the bellows and two "musicians" cursed me back. My aunt stabbed a guy who was taking the charcoal from forge, and then they stabbed her and healed the guy. It was so frustating.
Thankfully raides went south, I almost openned the gate, but there were people really trying to work there. I just forget it and decided to get some milk. After some minutes, some guys went south to fight the raiders and all "musicians" went there as well, I ran to the forge to make at least a shovel for compost, but the guy saw and took the charcoal, I couldn't even kill him because I destroyed my knife to make a saw for slot boxes. I said "fuck you" and another troublemaker "musician" told him to kill me. The guy held his knife and I just ran.
It's becoming impossible, griefers are multiplying. Cursing/killing are not working anymore, unless the griefer is alone, but now griefers are playing together, so they can support each other, heal them, curse back and fool people. They don't even need discord anymore, they recognize themselves in-game.
People who like music or roleplay, it's ok if you don't help the town, you can do your stuff, but please, don't get in the way.
Well, I’m playing the game that I bought.
He promised updates and he is giving us updates. Some of them are good, some of them are bad, things get balanced with the passage of time.
Believe or not, the rift is not the problem, after the rift people learnt how to play meta. Fenced towns, good bery farms, high tech tools and whatnot.
The problem is “what’s next”, we reach the peak and there is nothing else we can do. Some of us keep playing even it’s not as funny as in the beginning of the arc, and others start griefing.
Currently I’m trying to teach people how to get milk, I’m making cow pens, buckets, big corn farms and whatnot, I was so proud my granddaughter learnt how to get milk and she really took four buckets at once.
But it’s really frustrating to be aware all of the time, griefers always come, inside and outside, nothing lasts because of them.
To make a cow pen I spent more than forty years, because some asshole griefer killed all geese, fortunately I found a domestic bison more than 600 times away from my town.

Not in this game. Don't be ridiculous.
Why not add those features? Why do you consider them ridiculous?
Dead turkeys have feathers. Why not geese?
I think it was irony. He was pretending to be Jason, it’s my guess.
