I'm not asking for them to NEVER run away. I'd seriously be happy with 15 or 20 seconds.
7 is just frustrating when you're trying to collect things and you have to juggle tools or babies and your horse runs 4 or 5 tiles away.
Maybe even reduce the tiles it runs? I'm not sure. I just think it's obnoxious the way it is now.
I'm Slinky and I hate it here.
I also /blush.

They're supposed to be a bit silly.
They used to run away instantly, back in the day.
Offline
A bit silly is fine, but they are kind of just silly enough to be on the too-annoying side of things. The time it takes them to run off is just the tiniest smidge less than the amount of time it usually takes to load or unload the cart. It is a little bit maddening.

Why have tame horses run away at all? They should stick around. Afterall, they like me. I feed them carrots.
Offline
i always suggested that time to be at least 4 times bigger.
So annoying.

I wish it was 15 seconds.

Maybe let use tie our horse to a tree or bush or rock?
Or use stakes and a rope to tie it out. When travelling long distance by horse, you don't just stay on the horse every second. When you make camp or take a break, it is common to stake out the horse so it can rest znd graze.

This might have been mentioned elsewhere... but all those options negate the iron age tech requirement horses have--via fences--which opens them up to the early game.
Everyone talks about how great milk is, no one talks about how many bb cows you must let die...

You need a saddle to tame a horse. Which requires a knife and domestic sheep to produce.
So no ... that is not a valid reason for denying proper hitching options.

Completely agree, even an extra five seconds before they run would make them a lot more usable. I hate when I realize I just doubled the time to do a task because I ended up running after the horse too often. And the "Is the baby going to stay?" moment when I am out in the wild on my horse is a bit crazy intense when the horse is going to run in a few seconds.

Sheep skin is made with a flint chip, or a knife.

Despite their limitations, I find horse carts useful enough to rush them, so I'm quite familiar with the requirements. It is a great thing to add to your village after you've got sheep, a deep well and a few regular carts.
Frankly, a horse on its own (no cart) is not that useful. Even less so without a saddle, of course. But without the tools to make a cart, the horse is just a fast way to run around without a basket. It is handy for scouting the Rift and technically useful for stealing shit if you lack morals and have a backpack. Beyond that, you are much better off making a horse cart, which requires all the wood-making tools, including the adze you need to make the fence post.
It's just really annoying that you can't park your horse anywhere without making a special trip there just to install a section of fencing. There are very few places that I plan on re-visiting enough times to justify adding an entire extra trip.

Jason please extend the time or give us a tool to extend it.
Maybe not the early Horses have to be like proper city horses of London but somewhere in tech tree, they have to become like this.
-Horseshoes maybe?

i wish there were some domesticated horses, like several phases to grow up, a few colours, and bound to user until he dies or says it can be taken, would be fun
we already had one buff on horse, first time introduced was so annoying, if you had lag you could never catch it, maybe if you skip a phase and tried to catch second time around
not many people know that you can park horses in small biomes, as hey are biome locked, so they won't run from 1x1 tiles, often times i parked horses in such places and built my rubber oven, planted rubebr trees after update

Or they become calm for a few minutes if you feed them a carrot, so they take 20 seconds to run away instead of 7

Or just make cars actually useful instead of useless like they are rn, so we can advance to next level riding. Make a car running for 5 hours with one tanking.

Or give it more storage at least. Unless you want to get stranded in the middle of nowhere you always bring a can of kerosene, so the car has effectively only 3 storage spots. Would be nice if it had the same storage space as an upgraded cart (6 storage spots, would be effectively 5 with a car).
And make a special storage space specifically for a can of kerosene, so we don't use storage on fuel.

For the time being, I think we have enough content.

Or give the car a fuel gauge and the ability to turn it off when not being driven, so you can save fuel for when you are actually driving. It is rather useless that a single use takes up the whole can. It makes the car into a toy, rather than being a functional replacement for the horse.
I could see this version of the car as equivalent to early cars, back before they were practical and people laughed at the idea of trading in your horse for a Model T. But I'd like to advance beyond tbe "useless gimmick" stage of car ownership with a few upgraded features to fix the biggest issues.
Offline
Also maybe we could attach a wagon to a car to give it extra cargo space.
