They are monuments from a bygone era, the now broken tools of a mad, destructive power that were once harnessed through the use of a cursed ritual. They are, the monoliths, they are the apocalypse.
Seriously though, they were from the now disabled update called the Apocalypse. If a group of players managed to slot three gold disks into it, capture a horse, put a crown on it and tie it to the monolith, it would cause the apocalypse, destroying everything and killing everyone.
The monoliths were disabled as they were abused by griefers and trolls who kept wiping everything every few hours.
You can still add the disks and horse, but it does nothing.
The sun will come out, tomorrow! Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow, there'll be sun!
Either old or, just for fun, Jasus.
In the time period that OHOL is set in, listening to the elderly made sense, they managed to survive to their age, they have the most experience, and depending on their age, they most likely aren't working on a large project, meaning they are more open to talking and teaching.
Jasus, well, I just like roleplaying religions, even if it is just one guy spewing a bunch of improvised nonsense.
It's weird to think that in real life, this was just a quick game of dice that lasted for about maybe 15-20 minutes, yet in OHOL, this was a longstanding gambling rivalry between two old men spending years at the casino, constantly gaining and losing spoils at dice.
Actually, if you compare OHOL time to real time, a lot of simple actions in our time are actually arduous tasks in OHOL time, like, if harvesting a field of carrots took 30 seconds real time, then the harvest would take half a year in OHOL time. Murder sprees that last 10 minutes are actually ten long years of terror, that iron trip saw your character leave the village for five years, your mother nursed for a year before going back to work. It's fascinating.
No, you can still do all the steps, but nothing happens.
If we are to ever bring it back, it would need to be balanced, and not player activated. A while back I made a suggestion on Reddit, instead of a flash wiping out everything, I thought it might be good to have random or algorithm-based "Extinction Events", events that increase the difficulty (such as an ice age, or global warming), but give players a chance to overcome and adapt.
If we are going to add baby slings, I think there should be a downside to them, otherwise they might OP(?). Perhaps you would not be able to hold certain things with a baby in the sling, such as a dug rock, or other larger objects.
The handcuff idea has been mentioned before, many times actually. I for one, support the idea, but perhaps there should be some requirement for the handcuffs to work. I think that handcuffs should only work if applied to someone on murder cooldown, that way, you could prevent a griefer from stealing the only hammer and cuffing everyone, effectively making a whole town their personal play-pen.
I also don't think that handcuffs should totally immobilise murderers, perhaps they instead move at a murder cooldown speed, allowing them to reach food, but safeguarding against escapes.
Hey, that was me who shanked you. I regretted it after, felt like I acted too fast. But, I've been in more than one town this week with grief killers (one who terrorized the whole town, killing not just people but all of our livestock), and I didn't want to take a chance. Just wanna say I'm sorry, man.
Don't worry about it, in retrospect, it was kinda an idiotic move. Also, your last words, were they addressing me?
Yeah, looking back now, It was a really stupid move
Just learned the hard way to NOT joke about murder sprees.
It was in the unofficial town square, next to the forge and bakery. I thought to myself it might be funny to scare the people of the town with a little prank.
Yeah, that ended badly.
As I stood by the forge with the knife I took from a corpse in my pack, I loudly announced that I had just realised that I could go on a killing spree, right there. I never meant to actually do it, but I guess I underestimated the blacksmith's will to defend the town. I never actually saw the killing blow (my internet is lousy at the moment), but within seconds the whole town had gathered around me, staring at the gaping wound in my stomach. At first, I was angry at the blacksmith, I yelled at her, saying that I never meant to do it, but soon, I realised what she did she did rightfully so. After all, it is better to kill one person than have half the town dead. Some of the towns members were shocked by her actions, one even cursed her, but they didn't know the whole story. At peace with the situation, I soon collapsed, dying at the age of 27.
The moral of this short story?
Don't joke about murders
Oh, nice! Finally, they were getting rather annoying, good riddance to bad rubbish!
Has Superfun2 been banned? I recently looked at one of their posts, and there was a big fat BANNED next to the post under their profile. Is it true? Is that possible?
Hugh Mann
(Ok, I have yet to name a baby this, but I would like to)
Mostly social and survival, however I do dabble in a bit of progress.
I never really learned how to make roads, build or smith, meaning that I mostly end up as either a farmer, wet-nurse or shepherd.
Due to the increasing amount of societies that have begun to pop up both in the game and in the forums, I decided to document the amount of players who are affiliated with one.
Perhaps add a RP category for the increasing amount of cults, governments and religions.
Calm thyself, Blood-Drinker! You speak of being the chosen ones, yet you kill each other in a naive attempt to please the Programmer, if he wanted us dead, why did he create us, using his Holy Code?!?
(Does this count as RP?)
Poor, lost children of the Programmer. The Church of the Sacred Code looks upon your deluded cult with pity. We pray that one day, you too, will bask in the Glory of his Code!
Inspired by the WHS, I decided to create a little roleplay society of my own. It's nothing serious, just a fun little activity for those of you who have become bored in the larger cities.
{The Church of the Sacred Code}
-What are we?-
The Church of the Sacred Code is a religious order dedicated to the worship of the Programmer and his sacred code.
-Our Code-
1. Never abandon new players, we are all the children of the Programmer
2. Teach all children about the Programmer and his Sacred Code
3. The first person in a village to convert is known as the "Elder". They are the head of the Church in that particular village and deal with all matters attaining to the religion.
4. The current Elder may nominate a successor. If no successor is nominated, then the faithful may vote for a new one.
5. We are a peaceful society, we only kill in self-defence.
6. Members of the Church must renounce any other affiliations to external organisations, this means any royal titles must be forfeit and any governments must be left.
7. When possible, dedicate a shrine to the Programmer, leave him gifts, small things like a bowl of berries or a pie. DO NOT sacrifice humans, it is a self-destructive habit, if you must sacrifice something use a goose or sheep.
8. Anyone who insults the Programmer must be shunned by the community.
-Our Customs-
As stated before, we are a peaceful society, dedicated to the worship of the Programmer and the teaching of the Sacred Code. When faced with non-believers, act courteously, do not ostracise them, teach them about the Programmer and the Sacred Code. If they do not want to listen, let them wallow in their own self-pity, but do not insult them, remember, we are all children of the Programmer. Remember to praise and worship the Programmer, leave offerings at his shrine if you can.
-Elder Guide-
Congratulations! You have either started a church in your village or have been nominated for the position of elder, you are now officially in charge of all religious matters in your branch! As elder, it is your responsibility to oversee the construction of a shrine, if there is none, make sure that the children are taught about the Programmer and to protect and guide your people. You have a decent amount of choice and autonomy when it comes to the smaller customs and rules of the Church, do the followers have to greet each other with a special word? Is your flock segregated from ordinary society? Its all up to you.
-Conclusion-
Hopefully, this society will inject a little bit of drama and life into your lives as you role-play along with your fellow followers!
Please leave any suggestions in the comments
The best thing for a new player to do is most likely farming. It's simple, it's always needed and it does provide opportunity to learn other skills. Another particularly easy (although not always required) job is a caretaker, feeding the town's babies and keeping them out of trouble, maybe keep the fire going if there is one.
Like what the others have said, it is quite important to have basic survival skills in the wilderness, just in case the worst comes to pass.
It also depends on what society you are dealing with, if you are born into a humble eve camp, it's probably best to be either a farmer or a forager to secure a steady supply of food. If you are born into a relatively well-developed tribe with a stable farm, maybe try your hand at smithing, hunting or just plain old farming. If you are lucky(?) enough to be born into an advanced town, learn the more intricate skills such as baking, making stew, clothes or building, if all else fails, just farm. Notice that farming is a constant in nearly every society.
Maybe I should start a rival religion to this, write my own holy book
I would say that, if implemented, it should be purely aesthetic, not functional. Sure, it's Tim's axe, but we could just borrow (or steal) it for a few minutes.
Is it just me, or is the chock full of eves running around setting up camps? Did the servers get reset or something? Or is it just because of the large amount of new players?
I've seen noobs not knowing what the shit is going on and just eating all the berries without farming.
When i see one, i teach them.
If you e is no hope for them, the guy farmed so much the huge berry field was full of berries and did most of the work alone.
Noobs arent a pain in the butt
They are tomorrow's workforce.
They are the ones that will shape this land soonBe kind to them
Offer them some stew.
Thats the beauty of this game, you will have people come into the world not knowing what the hell is going on, you will have to teach them if you want your civ to survive.
Its just like that owl-lady-thing said in the Fox and the Hound
"It's either education, or elimination!"
