I will wear that ghost costume whenever I can.

I really hope that Jason will one day turn "The Rift" into oceans and/or rivers.

Jason I get it we're not always nice to you, but you don't have to be so mean to us.

I don't agree here. In fact it gives new players a focus what to do. And when you can't do a thing you ask someone and may learn how it works (for the next life) while watching someone doing stuff.

I really really love this. Especially because Jason coupled it together with the genetic fitness.

And for the high potential players (who might feel limited now): Just coordinate things. You can't do everything alone any longer. It's so much more fun for all of us.

#30 Re: Main Forum » Great video about how to make a rabbit snare » 2019-10-19 08:38:45

Disappearing rabbits are fine. I like the idea that you see a familiy's tech level on what they are wearing.

Make backpacks decay and bring back the rabbits over a long time (let them repopulate in some player generations) so that we can still eat them in later times (For ze yum chain!). But give us some other containers please.

We have clothes of the 1900s but running around with fur backpaks from stone age. This has confused me all over the time. Just add some new containers. One made from linen and one made from leather. For example:

http://bethlehemtradingpost.com/bags-an … n-line.php
Hand Sewn Linen Haversack - to carry two small items (like a tomato and a knife)

https://www.instructables.com/id/Leather-Rucksack/
Leather Rucksack - like backpack (could be made from cows or pigs leather maybe)

Last but not least: Making leather brings us new jobs.

#31 Re: Main Forum » Myths and facts about why player numbers are dropping over time » 2019-10-13 07:29:28

The game is just too hard for many new players. There need to be more tutorials (Cooking, Farming, Animals).

#32 Re: Main Forum » Posse implementation » 2019-10-01 09:15:38

Just an extended idea of slowing down people: What about new text like: "Hunt Adam Disney". The more people say it, the slower the guy gets if he is in a range of the people who said it. It would make griefing much harder. The guy could only sneak around people, making the people pay more attention. Players could run away easily, the Griefer would have much more trouble.

It would require a community and a suspicion (Like someone behaves strange or already killed one). So Griefers would still get chances, but the more griefing, the more complicated it gets for them. Wiping out whole villages would not be that easy any longer.

#33 Re: Main Forum » 115 "Speech Box Phrases" you didn't know about! » 2019-10-01 08:46:40

Has there been a limitation of emotes in a specific amount of time? If I use AWBZ-Mod and try to spam my favourite "/ANGRY + /Mad" emotes, I'm for some time not longer able to use any emotes.

And thanks for the information about 30 minutes curses!

Hand Pump + Hungry Work = Balanced idea (I guess).

#35 Re: Main Forum » Still no update? » 2019-09-13 20:20:44

What a toxic board.

>I had two weeks vacation. I hoped for updates in this time because I had really, really time to play. There were no updates. So I just asked why. I'm not in any case mad of Jason (How could anyone of us????). I just hoped this thuesday for updates ...

>Yes, I searched for a similar thread. There was one. I didn't want to open an new. The old one was from 2018!? Remeber that year - when people first invented fire?

>And I don't really know how to handle a bow. I have never seen people guarding the property gates!? Are there really poeple doing this?

#36 Re: Main Forum » Still no update? » 2019-09-13 09:26:21

Guys, I did not necro this thread for complaints. I was just wondering why there have been no weekly updates lately. Because I'm always (very) excited about the new things that Jason implements. wink

#37 Re: Main Forum » Still no update? » 2019-09-12 07:53:46

Will there be an update this week?

Too much zeroes. Thanks to Turnipseed.

I have always wondered if ohol is Jason’s full time job, or does he just do it when he’s not doing his other job. And if this is his full time job how does he make his income since this game has no micro-transactions (which is amazing!). There’s only ever been 150 people max playing at one time and maybe a 1000 people every week. It would be great if Jason let these stats show.

According to here and steamspy he sold about 65000 copies, most for $20.
https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewt … 889#p47889

That's about $ 1.3 million. Let's say he can keep 50% (Tax, Steam, Server, Website) and still has $ 700,000. It is probably more. (Steam keeps 30% and maybe some taxes.)

A wagon with two horses and room for four people.

Imagine gathering milkweed, kindling and wood together. Finding together iron. Creating easily outposts. And people talking while on their journey.

I love it.

#41 Re: Main Forum » HOW I STOPPED TWISTED FROM STREAMING! » 2019-04-22 20:25:31

I meant it not as a replacement for donkey town. It's an addition, to warn players from the really really bad guys.

Imagine a born devil baby. That's far away from reward.

#42 Re: Main Forum » HOW I STOPPED TWISTED FROM STREAMING! » 2019-04-22 20:01:55

Here is my idea, I call it "Lists of difference"

Killers kill. Griefers grief. You can only log Killers. Logging Griefer behaviour is impossible (Kidnapping, opening the sheep pen, eating all berrys, hiding tools, wasting ressources).

If someone gets often cursed AND is a Killer quite often, then there is a huge indicator for that person beeing also a griefer.

Just log two seperate things:
1. How often got someone cursed (Unique curses, by Player-IDs). => If Toxic curses Twisted a hunded times, it counts just as a single curse. If Toxic gets cursed by 50 unique players it counts as 50 curses. This shows you who is very hard cursed by the community.

2. How often did a Player-ID kill someone. => Like Toxic killed 40 people in a week.

Create two lists and sort them by the amount of "unique curses" and "kills in a specific time". Check them manually! If a player is on top of both lists and the values are far away from average, punish the player.

You could add a devils tail, as long as you want.

#43 Re: Main Forum » Can someone check the new property fence content? » 2019-04-18 08:09:57

No high tech resources are needed to build the "JR Property System©". That's great! Also I like the opportunity to build parallel entrances.

What if I build a closed loop of "Property Fence" and it gets approved and unshaky/robust? Are people really locked out/ locked in for 60 minutes?

Can anyone tear down a shaky fence or just their owners?

I'm sure that some of you around here have noticed something of a manic cycle that I go through, where the ideas just flow like a hydrant, and I'm kinda all over the place for a while.  "Jason, what are you doing man?  Changing the game drastically again?!"  And then that phase ends, and I go back to head-down work again.

So last night, at about 1:20am, before going to bed, I had to pull out some sheets of paper and scribble down one last idea.

I had a similar idea, written in bad english. Maybe you just read it? big_smile (It was a very similar thing, but a key and a door instead of fence and stone)

Coal? Maybe Charcoal Brush? Like in Photoshop. You know.

#46 Re: Main Forum » Why there are no wars » 2019-04-02 10:59:42

The fact is that the game only becomes more realistic when ownership is introduced and ownership can be inherited.

An Idea:

People live in houses, which can be inherited. You lock houses so that you can secure your property there. In OHOL I can not secure anything at the moment, just hide something behind a tree or carry it very far away. The only currently inheritable is my clothes and the contents of my backpack. But that does not have such great value for my descendants to strive for a lifetime. There is anarchy and everyone owns everything. Or rather, everyone comes too easily to all objects. The resources are well distributed throughout the world, and as Eves keeps spawning everywhere, there is no reason for envy, war or conflict.

There would have to be some kind of key that you can not duplicate and that fits only a single door. Although I can currently assign a letter for a key and a lock, the code can be posted outside the game, so security is quickly over.  Inheritance is therefore difficult to achieve. It only promotes reincarnation and the locked property does not benefit anyone in the meantime. At some point too many players would know the code and there is anarchy again. Or nobody knows it. There must be something in between. A "special" key.

This special key can be passed on to anyone (For example, by command: "I pass on to Jason" and the player's answer Jason: "I want inherit".) It fits, as I said, only in a unique single door. The possession of such a key could be represented with a necklace. To make it clear, it's not an item like a pie or a knife. It's an access right that is visualised by something like a necklace. You carry it like a hat or boots. The key can not be take off by the player himself but is inherited if both players want it. After all, you also have to be able to deny a legacy.

If the Key Carrier is murdered, the key will remain with the corpse as long as it is bloody. After that, anyone can take it even if he is not relative. If a player dies without first inheriting, everyone can instantly take the key. It is not a (last) will, but a handover. Only that one who owns the key can go through the door.

My descendants would choose to be my heir, since there can only be one heir. They would protect and defend their possessions, expand and re-inherit them. From generation to generation, ownership grows and only the best assert themselves and become heirs.

Good neighbors are of course important, maybe a city wall. There would be settlements of high value after some time.

Anyone who has property can trade. At some point the resources in the area will run out. Traders will come and offer me goods that I pay for with a portion of my property. Robbers will come and try to break in. As I said, good neighborliness will be important. Cities and settlements and fortifications and trading posts are created.

If I am born again, I have absolutely no guarantee that I will get "my property" back. That's a change to the existing locks and keys (Which of course should still be implemented).

As settlements grow, so do the birth rates. Resources become even less. OHOL humanity will emigrate and build neighboring cities. Some may build factory towns, others build agriculture. Maybe there are also airports and a road system.

Someone with property will have to be productive otherwise. But that only gives players the time to trade. Maybe one player has a Newcommen Lathe, the other an iron store. The two have to act. Another does not produce anything by himself, but lives on the sale of cars that he gets from other houses. There are many possibilities.

To make it short: Handover without fixed letter code for lock and key. Only one heir to each key carrier. Only one door per key.

Mobile Devs changed the name from "One Hour One Life for Mobile" to "You are Hope", at least for android. iOS has still the name "One Hour One Life for Mobile" but the description says also "You are hope".

And finally, I downloaded the TapTap store app on my android tablet here...  The Chinese version has this VERY weird header image, clearly hacked together from some of the game's sprites, and creating a scene that would be impossible in-game (why does that guy have that coat on his shoulder?)

I think because they were naked and that might not be allowed. Then they had not much time to change it in a good looking way. So they "just put some clothes on". All three persons in this picture are covered with some additional clothes. They have a sharper resolution.

A way to get the interpretation sovereignty of your game back:

1. Finish OHOL (only bugs, no new content). This will be the real foundation of your work. Anyone can use it as they wish, like you ever wanted it.

2. Create a new game: "Jason Rohrer's One Hour One Life" (Like Sid Meier or Colin McRae did) - with copyrights, also based on your OHOL. As you can see in this whole discussion, it's the only way to prevent others from disturbing the real meaning of the game. They can still work on OHOL for free, but they need to go their own way because they can not just copy all your ideas any longer.

3. Grant access for those who building things based on JR-OHOL, like onetech, modders, whatever. Make them ask you if they also can earn some money by using JR-OHOL (ads). You decide what is wrong or right. And give everyone who has bought OHOL a key for JR-OHOL. If you continue updating weekly, the game will become very quick something different, something better. And others can't just copy your stuff. They have to go their own ways.
