#51 Re: Main Forum » Special Events » 2018-11-29 03:05:11

Events are cool in theory. Remember how everyone had a mental break-down during the apocalypse? Yeah, thats how it would be with literally anything else. People whining and complaining about how the game has been ruined for them and how unfair everything is blah blahblah. Regardless, I would still be up for events and trying them out some if they were to come to pass as suggested.

#52 Re: Main Forum » Disown Family » 2018-11-29 02:57:40

It would be cool to be dubbed something like Hope "Baker" Lee and then have your kids be 'Samuel Baker.' This could have new families exist in one village easier and allow for things like marriage and fathers to exist without worry of incest- as you wouldn't be considered related anymore.

#53 Re: Main Forum » Four classifications of settlements » 2018-11-29 02:51:43

I love diverse villages. I'm afraid I don't really understand why it makes a world of difference if multiple villages are connected to each other instead of one megacity... I suppose it lessens the likelihood of everyone dying at once but thats the only advantage I can think of.

#54 Re: Main Forum » Suggestion: Using a round stone on a homemarker sets own mark. » 2018-11-29 02:47:11

Yea, the whole getting a sharp rock to dig it up and re-set it doesn't do anything. It doesn't make the game more difficult or interesting or more fun, just more tedious. It would be better to have it so you automatically inherit your mother's marker AND can set up your marker by just hitting someone else's with a round rock.

#55 Re: Main Forum » Bulletin Boards NEEDED ASAP » 2018-11-29 02:44:35

I think this is an excellent idea. Maybe there wouldn't be a bulletin board but a giant rock you carve rules into, but also the names of people and their titles and stories. That was lots of cavemen did, paint on cave walls and leave behind stories, why not in OHOL? I would've loved to have been able to write stories about how to take care of griefers and other moral tales about how to be an effective farmer or baker. You could also write personal tales about how you survived a massive food shortage due to a baby boom and create a village/family history- which in turn makes your family/town special and unique.

#56 Re: Main Forum » Nostalgic Reflections » 2018-11-28 01:46:10

I feel the exact same way. Its very fulfilling to watch the town bustle with life you've helped sustain and create and reflect upon your time in your short blip of a lifespan and think upon all that has happened in your home and those you've watched passed and will soon join. I love it when people write about their experiences here on the forums too and connect with people that way.

#57 Re: Main Forum » Suggestion: Crock pot used for storage. » 2018-11-28 01:33:50

There NEEDS to be a way to store stuff like wheat, eggs, meat, and beans. They always end up cluttering up the whole of the town with no end in sight as to their numbers.

#58 Re: Main Forum » Baby Slings » 2018-11-28 01:09:09

My idea for a reed sling instead of a backpack is that babies start popping out the moment you spawn in as an eve and when you need to use all your time wisely and effectively you either need to tell your one year old to follow you around and pray they don't get lost or be too slow- as again, you''re on a time limit- or just abandon all your kids to death until you've got the backpack over ten years later. This idea doesn't appeal to me very much and I just feel that having a simple sling be made available as a simple craft that works similar to a backpack but only used for babies would be handy and helpful for those starting off and towns with loads of working moms and not enough backpacks to go around. We could compromise and have it so backpacks can function as slings as well, just have the reed sling have low durability or something where they decay after 5+ years. They are made of reeds after all and have to carry the stress of a growing baby.

#59 Re: Main Forum » I haven't been able to play for a long while, what's new? » 2018-11-28 00:25:00

The biggest update would be the jungle biome. The jungle biome is a great place with warm temperature just right and LOTS of bananas. Be warned though, there are mosquitos in the jungles and they give you yellow fever. Yellow fever makes it so you drop whatever it is you're holding and can't pick anything back up. Your temperature begins to rise dramatically and thereby rapidly draining your food bars, which has also been cut in half by the yellow fever. In order to survive yelllow fever, you need someone to help feed you. Although, if you can make it to a cold biome to counteract the feverish heat, you can outlast the fever on your own with a few food bars remaining and rush to get food as soon as it passed.

Hope this helps!

EDIT: Crafting wise, nothing immediately comes to mind. I just hoped back into this game a few days ago after a 2 month hiatus so not too much in regards to crafting survival stuff has changed. There are turkeys now.

I don't have reddit so if someone does please feel free to submit it. I think Jason reads most things here, reddit is great for the voting aspect which has influenced his decision in the past when lots of people clearly agree.

I would be 100% with this if we had slings for mothers to carry babies with while still being able to work. I actually just posted something on the OHOL reddit about this https://www.reddit.com/r/OneLifeSuggest … by_slings/

#63 Re: Main Forum » The Case For Giant Biomes » 2018-11-27 21:31:43

Having the biomes instead act like different regions of the world would be fantastic! This would lead to potential trading and different cultures forming big_smile especially if rivers/oceans/lakes with boats become a thing.

It is near impossible to get much done while nurturing a child, especially in the early stages of building a town! What would help an Eve more than just about anything else would be a simple to craft sling similar to a reed basket, allowing for her to carry her offspring on her back while running around collecting resources freely with her hands. Do you know how much more efficient things would be for a mom to start up a town able to carry her child AND a basket of precious resources?! A LOT.

Thoughts and ideas?

We might end up with strange combos like dark people with platinum blonde hair and blue eyes but it would be far more interesting and awesome than how things are now. Percentages could also be added to make it so certain traits and combinations are rarer.

#66 Re: Main Forum » Cultures and Trade » 2018-11-27 14:29:52

Hi! I hear what you are saying and already acknowledged some people managing to live nomadic lives in OHOL as it is. What I said regarding it is that it is rare and often doesn't last long as there isn't enough tech wise to keep people nomadic or enough alternatives to doing certain stuff to survive to make it possible for twenty generations. It isn't possible to carry lots of stuff as a nomad unless you steal a horse and cart from a mega-city and sprint off into the wilderness, and even then it isn't always enough. I added more details to my reddit post if you want to read more there.

Something that I've noticed is lacking in towns is a culture. If you've been in one or two mega-cities, you've been in all mega-cities. There are the same taboos, the same jobs, the same resources, the same clothes, and the same plants.
One notable thing about different cultures in our real world is that, when they are lacking in a resource (say carrots) they don't roll over and die, but instead find a different food unique to their region to act as a supplement. When they don't have soil or the space to farm, they become fishers instead along rivers, lakes, and oceans and start up coastal cities. When there isn't enough water to settle down and farm, they become nomadic desert traders on camel back who trade with neighboring farming villages in exchange for food with iron ores.
The main obstacle in OHOL in there being cultures and trade is that there is no alternative way of life aside from living a very specific way of settling down and planting wheat, carrots, squash, bean, and gooseberry bushes. Thus, OHOL only has one culture because there is no other way of living without dying.
Of course, some people have managed to live nomadic lives and break away from the norm but this a rare exception and often doesn't lasts long.
There needs to be alternatives to carrots and wheat. Rice perhaps? River, mountains, and lakes? Easily tamable camels?  Fishing? A new tech tree to allow Eskimos to exist? Offer different regions of the world to play in. Maybe have different servers be in Asia, Europe, and/or Africa?

Welcome to the community! I'm glad to hear that you've turned away from being a griefer and are starting to appreciate the game as intended. I look forward to hearing from you again in the forums and the adventures you have playing with other players and learning new stuff smile

I love all the cool updates Jason has been pumping out, but there is something I want desperately despite it being impractical and not directly contributing to gameplay mechanics..

MORE SKINS!!

People are diverse and interesting. They are a mix of all those before them and have lots of unique features that make them who they are. If there were a way to have characters be semi-unique, that would be great. I have a potential proposal that I think would fulfill that need.

Eye color:
Blue/ Gray
Brown/ Amber
Green/ Hazel

Hair color:
Brown
Ginger
Auburn
Blonde
Black

Skin tone:
Pale
Caucasian
Tan
Dark

If we were to make it so you can mix and match these psychical traits- instead of having set skins- we would have 120 unique skin combos! Now of course, some traits are more rare than others- such as having green eyes in comparison to brown eyes- but this is a potential solution to help increase the likelihood of unique and interesting looking characters!

EDIT: If we were to add one more trait to the list: Platinum blonde. It would total to 144 unique combinations!

EDIT: Thoughts or comment?

#70 Re: Main Forum » List of infinite, zero-input food sources? » 2018-11-26 17:53:39

Right now, I think we should keep the bananas as they are and focus on updating other stuff. I was able to get a good base set up because I had the bananas. One thing that I struggled with in the past when trying to get a base running was that I was too slow to get everything done that needed to be done. Juggling babies while trying to get a fire-drill and ovens and farms started up was extremely difficult and the berries ran out so quick. The bananas offer me a way to raise some kids who can actually help me set up a base and farm outside the jungle without depleting the area of food and dooming everyone to starvation.
Maybe I'm just bad, but the game is already at a really high difficulty level for me. What I would personally rather see right now rather than change the game to increase its difficulty is more expansions on the tech tree. Civilizations hit a technological 'brick wall' at some point and slowly, but surely, deplete the land of its resources as you run out of ponds to build wells on and trees to cut down. Maybe a pump to bring water from the ground? Or more ways to get iron, a rarity nowadays. The game is already hard, add some things that make it easier in the technological section and then nerf natural resources like bananas.

EDIT: Also, maybe add stuff that helps with civilizations migrating! That could fix the water problem as well. Make it so caravans of nomads can exists or roads of trades between towns happen, like the good old days.

Hey guys!
I've been away from OHOL since before steam integration was suggested. Mostly out of frustration and boredom and just wanting to go out and do other stuff elsewhere. But its been awhile and I am hoping the steam baby boom has quiet down and have heard about the jungle update and want to give it a go soon. Anyone interested in dealing out some advice or tidbits of knowledge before I be brought into the new world?

Hi Onna!
I was Ella Berro, daughter of our founding eve!
I just want to say that I am proud of what you and your descendants have done and never would've imagined that our family line would last this long. Thanks for playing!

My mother and the other eves who had been with her all perished and were swiftly followed by their children. All except me. I was only eight years old.
Alone and confused, I wandered away from the dying camp of starving infants and tried to find something to sustain me. What I found only a good walks away from my desolate birth place shocked me.
A forge and a small berry farm of six gooseberry bushes laid unattended save for a lone, old, skeleton. I could only assume that the owner of said place must've been dead long before my birth and had died alone surrounded by their few possessions. I decided that this small place I would make my new home. I gathered rabbit furs and made a backpack to hunt food for the children I intended to raise and tended to the gooseberry plants.
I got to making more plates and bowls for my humble farm and collected eggs so I could cook them while raising children.
Soon enough, I hit maturity and had my first child. A son I named Josie. I could tell from the start he was a bright boy and told him of what I had found and prepared for him. As soon as he hit walking age, he was off to gather resources to expand our campsite. As soon as I returned back to camp with more eggs, I had my second child- a girl I named Lilith. She spoke often even as a child and I had hope she would make me proud. She too grew up and joined her older brother in helping him prepare camp. Before I could continue hunting, I found myself with a son I named Jack, he unfortunately died too young, at the age of two, for me to ever know what he could've become. After those three, I only had miscarriages.
I helped gather cactus fruits and carrots for my children and made ropes and string before all came to a still. I was lagging. Badly.
I knew my time was soon and that I would die.
At age 32, I dropped off my backpack full of precious cargo crucial to my two remaining children's survival before wandering into the wilderness to die so that my children wouldn't have to bury my body.
I have seen what all my descendants have achieved and I am proud of them! I never would've imagined that my line would go so far. Thank you for playing with me! Josie and Lilith, thank you for not giving up!

#75 Re: Main Forum » To my good friend, Amerie Mary » 2018-09-18 12:21:08

YESSSS Amarie I'm so glad you got to see this post!!!! And Doha! You were such a good worker and I'm glad that I"m passed on the knife to you. I'm so happy that I made your run a good one Amarie, I had had a series of bad/mediocre runs today so finally getting a good one like this one as my last run of the day was definitely worth it. I had been wanting to make paper ever since the update but never had the chance because of all the other things needed to be done in villages like baking, setting up traps, farming, etc...  I didn't want to neglect my duties so I just made plans to do it when I had spare time and the resources at hand to spare. When I was born into our town, I saw how big and sprawling it was and how everyone was workin hard at it like machines and knew that if there ever was a time for me to learn, that this was the place to do it. I will confess, I had watched one person do a small part of the paper making process awhile back when the update first happened but I had thought that the small short staff you had to cut was instead a milkweed stalk. I would've spent like a good couple of minutes looking for a milkweed stalk instead of makin a short staff big_smile I'm a  bit silly like that. I also thought you could just cut the staff with just a sharp stone and then you would be done. BOIIII was I wrong!

You guys were just awesome, or 'the best', to play with and I'm glad that I was able to improve someone else's day and OHOL experience smile
